Nintendo Wii U

Xevious got sent back his original console (I assume) but they helpfully wiped his built-in storage.

I have no idea if it's my original machine or not. But the man on the phone when I rang in to book the repair asked if I had all my saves backed up, and said that if they were backed up they would work on the machine that was sent back.

Exactly what I wanted to hear, thanks. In answer to your earlier question yes, spoke to Nintendo - seemed very efficient and friendly. Should have my machine back next week sometime.

it's made me realise I need to follow more people.. I wish there was a better link between the friends list and the follow list... I'd accept friend requests, but it doesn't seem to result in me seeing them in my activity feed.

ok - maybe the folks I'm friends with don't do a lot of posting. :)

I've accepted a few friends outside of MiiVerse... should I see them in my activity feed.

(yes - it baffles me, I don't understand why there's a seperate friends list)

MiiVerse online is really quite nice... apparently there'll be a dedicated phone app at some point down the line.

Slightly annoying that I can't post a new topic in a thread from the phone, but I imagine that'll change over time.

I sort of understand the friends list a something separate, in that I think that in it's current form you should be able to see and manage your friends outside of Miiverse, but I totally agree that the links between them are a bit on the fuzzy side.

Sweetdaddyg I hope your body is ready....the update is apparently (according to a poster on GAF) live....

EDIT: Or maybe not, there appears to be some confusion

EDIT 2: The new Rayman challenges demo certainly appears to be live now though.

Even weirder when you think that these old games are basically free money for Nintendo. You can't buy them in stores anymore. The development costs have been recouped decades ago. Every single penny they make on it is pure, unadulterated profit. Why not offer them for free as driver to sell hardware? Why not sell them for a pound each, knowing it'll be the ultimate impulse buy? Why not give old games in a franchise away as preorder bonus with new games in the same franchise? Do they really think people are lining up to buy them for a fiver each? Maybe for Super Mario Bros 3 / World and Link to the Past, but beyond that?

You know what Nintendo should have done. They should have had the transfer and upgrade option from the Wii to Wii U available at launch and said that anyone who brought a Wii U within a month of release would be able to transfer and upgrade (play on controller) all their previously brought Wii VC games free of charge. After that launch period the usual charges would apply. I'm not saying that it would have changed much regarding the mass market but for those of us who have a Wii with lots of VC games and have held off buying a Wii U it might just have been enough to tempt us into purchasing a Wii U at launch and just given the console a bit more momentum regarding hardcore gamers. Certainly someone with say, 20 games (which is probably what I have) could be looking at saving £20-40 depending on what the final upgrade prices are so it would have been worth doing and, of course, we'd have had to have spent a few bob on games to go with our new console which is additional revenue for Nintendo in exchange for an offer for them which is really of no actual cost.

But no, Nintendo didn't even have the transfer and upgrade option available at launch.
