Nintendo Wii U

No, they don't. You can still use them all on the virtual Wii. Or upgrade them to run on the Wii U "proper".

No, I get that. I don't see how it makes any sense though. Running a console in a console in a console to get at most of the store, or paying a 25-50% surcharge on the original price to be able to use a small subset of the titles on a console on a console?

What?

I hope I don't have to re-dl the VC titles on the Wii side itself to make the Wii U side know which games I can get discounts on. (too many, many on the SD card, pikmin didn't transfer those not on card, but it still said I own blah de blah that I can re-dl....my head hurts)

NINTENDO CO., LTD. ANNOUNCES PROMOTION OF NOA CHAIRMAN TATSUMI KIMISHIMA TO NCL MANAGING DIRECTOR

Led Nintendo of America Since 2002

REDMOND, Wash., April 24, 2013 – Nintendo Co., Ltd. (NCL) today announced a planned promotion for Tatsumi Kimishima, current chairman and CEO of Nintendo of America (NOA) and a director of its parent Nintendo Co., Ltd. Subject to shareholder approval, he will become NCL managing director, and transfer from NOA in Redmond, Wash., to NCL headquarters in Kyoto, Japan. In his new position, he will assume the roles of general manager of Corporate Analysis and Administration, and general manager of the General Affairs Division. These titles are currently held by Yoshihiro Mori and Masaharu Matsumoto respectively, both of whom are retiring. Kimishima will assume his new duties in Kyoto later this summer.

Kimishima was named to his current position at NOA in 2006. He first joined Nintendo in Japan in 2000, and was subsequently named president of Pokémon USA in 2001, before moving on to become president of the Nintendo of America subsidiary in 2002. Previously, he spent 27 years at Sanwa Bank of Japan, with multiple postings in North America and Central America.

Many of his current responsibilities, including the CEO title, will be assumed by Global President Satoru Iwata. The move will support the company’s unified global strategy, allow streamlined decision making and enhance Nintendo's organizational agility in the current competitive environment. Reggie Fils-Aime will continue in his role as president and COO of NOA, reporting to Iwata.

Other changes announced to Nintendo’s global board of directors can be found at http://www.nintendo.co.jp/ir/en/.

How are they going to do the VC update thing? I've not transferred my stuff onto the WiiU yet as I don't really have any reason to - but, as soon as I can, I'll be all over that. I've probably downloaded about 30 VC games... I'll pay 30 quid to get them all on WiiU

I transferred everything a few weeks ago, but thanks to a NAND backup, everything is still on my Wii too. Best of both worlds :)

:(

Thing is, I only have rom/tape/disk images for games that I already physically own, or are free and legal to own. by "all" Spectrum games I actually mean "all those on WOS" which only have games that aren't "distribution denied".

Sure, I could put my 116 Master System games on my Wii, but then I could also just plug my Master System into my TV. Not having to load Spectrum games makes the emulator on the Wii more attractive for that system.

Wait - the 99p upgrade to WiiU thing is already available?!?!?!?

No - but when it is...

What I'm saying is I have all my VC games on my Wii *and* on my Wii U's Virtual Wii (VWii? VWii. That's the official name now on.).

I'd rather play Mario 64 or Fzero X on the gamepad than the old Wii Classic controllers rubbish sticks though. Plus some people might not have a classic controller, so they'll just get a message when they start the game telling them to fuck off.

I agree about gamecube stuff - but part of me thinks that they might think that it could reduce appetite for WiiU 'remakes' or 'upgrades'.

For example, F-Zero GX had a widescreen mode and would look great on WiiU... having that available would reduce the appetite for F-Zero U (if such a thing exists)... etc etc. (IMO)

Not saying it's a good thing at all, but wouldn't be surprised if it factored into their thinking.

Nonsense. On the Wii VC released were often timed just before newer games in the same series.

EDIT: And this is exactly what they're doing with Zelda OoA/OoS on the 3DS ahead of LTTP2.

Aye, just what you need... Two massive Zelda games to play just before a new one comes out... That won't dilute the experience of the new one at all...

If you can get it working one time, copy all that onto an SD card or hard drive!

So I spent the last few nights pulling the power in and out of my WiiU - tried all sorts of stuff, there was something online about leaving the power brick unplugged from the mains for ten hours so it can reset which sounds like nonsense and of course didn't work. Must have tried a good 30-40 times but nothing. Nada. Just about to put him back in his box, decided to try one last time and miraculously it came back to life! Managed to copy all my saves and eShop stuff onto an external, my ZombiU save included - delightful stuff.

Tried to switch it on this morning and it's back to flashing red.

without wanting to sound too much like a twat... if you want someting on WiiU that's not there... buy it from WiiWare VC when in Wii mode and then for a quid you can upgrade it to Gamepad and Save states later if you want.

First part didn't really work did it.

Peter Moore???!! Christ no.

But that's the point - I'm sure Iwata said 'NEXT' fiscal year... Which is just about to start.

He would've known the year was a write off last quarter.

Nintendo's FY runs until the end of March, the profit target is for the current FY which started on the 1st of April, companies can run their FY starting from whatever arbitary date they choose, the tax year and calendar year are chosen by the government.

Currently, nobody expects them to hit the 100 Billion JPY profit target, be interesting to see if they manage it, they are betting the bank on 3DS and Pokémon to do the business. Looking at their historical numbers, they've managed it for the vast majority of years ever since the SFC/GB combo era, but then again, they've never posted 2 consecutive years of losses. Wonder what the odds are currently, somebody must be running a book on it.

You're gonna be so gutted when you plug that into your new Wii U and find out the saves are locked to the previous console.

Don't toy with me SMD. If I send it back to Nintendo they'll presumably just fix my machine, failing that they'll clone the machine ID onto a new machine - surely. If my saves won't work than neither will my eShop stuff. Given I've just spent £50 on Lego City I will be forced into some homicidal rampage in the Kyoto area.

I'm not joking.
