Nintendo Wii U

Are the Virtual Console releases next week just going to be those which have already been part of the 30p deal plus Mario World/Mario's Picross etc from the Direct or will they go ahead and release a load of games they've already had on the old Wii eShop?

I'll probably buy Mario World again. I don't know if I ever actually bought Mario World in the first place though. I think I just borrowed it back in the SNES days. I remember getting 92 exits, and one time 93, and being utterly enraged when I found out the reason I didn't have the full 96 wasn't because there were extra levels to play:

I hadn't triggered the standard exits on the Star Road levels; just got the keys instead :(

I don't think they'll do an ambassador thing for the Wii U though. There's not been any obvious and significant price drop to justify it. Some people might feel the 30p Virtual Console games have been a bit of a reward for early adopters. A discount on 20 year old games isn't too great a deal. Still, I'm jealous of people who haven't played Super Metroid before who'll be picking it up in a few weeks for that price.

This might be a bit naughty but bear with me.

As I understand it, there's no way for me to transfer my NTSC Wii Virtual Console games to my PAL Wii U. I do have a PAL Wii but didn't get anything off the VC from there. It has been softmodded though...

So if I downloaded the wads of the games I have and installed them to the PAL Wii, then did a system transfer to the Wii U...would that work at all? Or if I did the softmod on the Wii mode directly (though obviously I'd wait for the update to make sure there are no nasty surprises) and then pay the upgrade fee for the Wii U VC?

Basically I don't want to pay full price again. Am I shit out of luck?

Nintendo haven't even sorted out their online accounts, I refuse to invest any significant amount digitally until they do. It's precisely because I've got loads of Wiiware and VC games on one Wii that I can't shift without either buying an American Wii U or going through a massive headache with Nintendo if it ever packs in that I have no faith in being able to play the games I've bought in the future.

At least with a cartridge or disc I don't need to worry about what machine it's on.

I wanted to be able to upgrade some of my games but there's no way of doing it at all. I don't understand why, but then I don't understand why there needs to be a region lock. You can have the eShop based on region without needing to lock down the entire machine.

I wish these old Virtual Console games didn't have that free Save State feature. Makes competing for scores and stuff on Miiverse a bit pointless. Maybe a single save state which deletes itself when you reload the game would be better. Or even both, but screenshots of the game posted to Miiverse beyond a point where you've used the save states as they are now would be bordered or tagged as such.

Or I could just play the games and enjoy them and shut up.

Also, I had one of my posts deleted on Miiverse last night because it was a drawing of a wee cartoon poo. Y'know, the Mr Whippy kind of poo, but with Kirby's eyes. But there's plenty of drawings that survive on Miiverse featuring Princess Peach sunbathing in a thong or whatever. Mad.

Probably just that someone reported you, but not the others.

The updated Rayman demo/challenge set is out on eShop this week:

Rayman Legends Challenges App (Ubisoft) - Free

Rayman Legends Online Challenges are a unique opportunity for players to compete against each other to climb up the leaderboards. You'll see 4 different paintings which take the player to specific daily and weekly challenges.

Can I use the balance board from Wii fit with the Wii U? And woud it be possible to use the controller as a screen rather than the TV. The wife wants me to set the Wii up again to use Wii fit and I thought it might be worth upgrading.

Wii Fit works normally in Wii mode, you need to sync the balance board with the Wii U though. It sounds daft but pairing it in Wii mode doesn't work.

It will be compatible with Wii Fit U, I imagine.

no shit.

couldn't get much worse for demonstrating the system as is, could it.

you really are one cheeky fucker

I dont think its been that bad to be honest. I think they have been a victim of circumstances. Not much extra pocket money for people to play with at the minute as well as no big exciting mario or zelda titles, plus the fact they branded it wii u making many of joe public think its just an add on means it has not set the world alight.

That and zero advertising to speak of.
