Nintendo Wii U

The 3DS version was a 3D remake, not a VC release.

They still would have had to use the old rom itself, unless you are implying the game had additional items/things added to it too. Still a 'proper' retro release in my book otherwise.

I mean I understand the difference, but VC doesn't have to equate to lazy, even for nostalgia purposes. 3DS release should be labeled polished or cleaned up at most. Not remade. A recent example would be the Sonic CD release. (though that still had additional things - Tails not in the original release)

After playing a bunch of the 3D classics id definetly class them as proper updates like the recent sonic CD release and not glorified rom emulation.

Kirby screen tearing on the left was the same on the wii VC version if thats any help - i do remember stuff like that on old nes games iirc.

Game are now selling direct codes for the e-shop.

http://www.game.co.uk/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/HubArticleView?hubId=214844&articleId=214845&catalogId=10201&langId=44&storeId=10151&cm_sp=eshop-_-hub-_-homebanner

No idea on pricing or anything as not really looked into it.

Eurogamer have a story on it and you get 25% extra trade in credit against e-shop purchases.

I do hope they do up their game a little with the virtual console ports. I kinda hate that they're adding in save states to all of them because I simply do not have the will power to avoid using them. It's sucked all the fun out of Punch Out!! as a result. Stupid me. If they could have somehow stopped you saving state mid-fight that would have been perfect. High score attempts in Balloon Fight seem similarly pointless. I didn't buy that anyway.

Some basic leaderboards would be a nice bonus for old racing games and stuff. Some concept art? Even just chucked into each games electronic manual? N64 games in particular need a bit o' extra care before chucking them on there. I only ever played the slow PAL version of Waverace. I'd love to see that proper. And I always hated Mario Kart 64 more than the others; I wonder how much of that is a result of having only played the PAL version? The N64 had lots of great games that struggled to balance looks with an acceptable framerate. Lovely them all up!

Still not played Tekken Tag Tournament 2 on Wii U since buying it. Probably won't. I mostly just turn it on and have a wee browse on Miiverse. The entire japanese Othello community has become a place for americans to post about Oreos.

I still love Miiverse.

So if I understand it right, I can play the Wii U version of Monster Hunter, move it to 3DS and continue the same character/stuff on the go? No version differences in regards to content?

Lovely if so.

...expensive undertaking, though.

I got the y cable for my hdd case yesterday, plugged it in and turned the wii u on and it asked me to format it and did so. Is it worth copying what's stored internally on to it, I presume save games etc will default to internal storage?

Everything will be saved to the external storage by default. I moved everything over for consistency, but I doubt that it matters.

And back in the 80s and 90s you had the same problem and you had to pay 40 quid a pop for the "crippled pos"

Pfft. I started importing with my PC Engine in 1988 and never looked back. Slow PAL versions aren't the memories I have of these games.

Jesus, the presence for this on the high street is rubbish. We have two Game stores in Lincoln and in both the Wii U selection was just rubbish. On top of that, only one of them had the new download cards for certain games and all of them were priced at £50. It seems shambolic at the moment. Coupled with the piss poor presence in the supermarkets, and it's clear to me that this console was released a year before it was actually properly ready.

Do they email you the code? I'm wavering on Monster Hunter

I assume there's something in USB standards that allows hot-swapping, but with the Wii U unable to power USB devices it's pretty clear Nintendo didn't follow USB standards, which is really shonky and an utterly bizarre choice because every other piece of electronics, no matter how cheaply made, does.

Yesterday off screen proved useful/I finally get the point.

Watching snooker on tv AND playing Runner 2 on the pad?

Bliss

all joking aside - it takes a wee while of gaming with the gamepad until you realise how nice it is having a decent screen on it...

Eh? It powers USB devices just fine.

Well it was with a little bit of jest. It's rare I truly have something to watch on the telly. So having a game I want to play and telly to watch is, well, cool shit. It's not like I didn't notice it before on some games on Nintendoland. But it is pointless if you don't require the TV for anything else OR you just have another telly to view nearby (something many with PC's do).

Already noted how nice the pad itself is pages and pages back.
