Nintendo Wii U

Ah, Lego games, of course. Thanks for that both. Looking forward to trying Nintendoland now, I'd assumed it was going to be a bit low-rent like Wii Play (which admittedly was fun on occasion). I was intending to pick up Super Mario Galaxy 2 and NSMB Wii as I seem to remember they had co-op elements but I might just get NSMB U instead then.

Nintendo Land is actually a lot, lot better than people give it credit for. It's not a system seller and if it hadn't have come with my Wii U I probably would've ignored it. It's the opposite of Wii Sports, it's not at all a compelling purchase but once you have it you realise the games are actually really fun. The other half loves Donkey Kong Crash Course and Balloon Flight because they're the right kind of challenging - you don't have to worry about controls or game mechanics, it's just down to your own skill.

I haven't spent as much time with it but I do want to go through Metroid and Zelda. And 5 player Mario Chase...

More annoying questions from me...

Actually i will start with initial impressions, i have to say what i have seen so far i like, the UI and store is pretty slick and i loved playing sonic racing on the gamepad whilst pretending to watch some tv show! I am fully sold on the game pad, its nice enough to use as a controller and the screen is really good.

My question is about wii importing, when i set the wii u up i had to setup a user so i imported myself from my 3ds, i then went back and imported Tracy and the kids from the 3ds and it all worked but they are no where to be seen - if you play a multiplayer game on nintendoland their miis are not there - what am i doing wrong?

The other wii question is the import feature, i take it that if i import from the wii all the save games etc will work when in wii mode on the U but they are lost from the wii itself, is there a way to share saved games or is the wii now redundant?

Do this and you can have your cake and eat it:

1) softmod your Wii (if it isn't done already)

2) install BootMii on your Wii

3) use BootMii to back up your NAND

4) back up your SD card

5) use DOP-Shop to upgrade shop channel on the Wii

6) enter Wii Shop, and download Wii to Wii U transfer tool

7) do the transfer - everything is now on your Wii U

8) run BootMii on your Wii

9) restore NAND with BootMii

10) everything is now on your Wii as well :)

I havent softmodded my wii, is it easy?

Any idea on the mii issue with them not appearing having been transferred from 3ds?

With regards to the Miis showing up in-game, you need to go back into the Mii Creator and mark them as favourites.

I've just bought a Wii U in order to play some games with my girlfriend. What are the decent co-op experiences with one gamepad and a Wiimote? Especially thinking of Lego City Undercover but all suggestions gratefully received. Even any Wii games that have good co-op modes. Thanks in advance.

How 'gamey' is the girlfriend? If the answer is more than 'not very' then I'd certainly suggest you consider ZombiU - the multiplayer stuff in that is actually really nicely done (and as a bonus you also get one of the best single-players games available on the Wii U as well).

Also, how about Trine 2 - I think that's on sale in the eShop right now as well (yeah it is, just £6.99 until the end of the month).

EDIT: Just to be clear, I think you'd need a pro controller for the second player in ZombiU - don't think it supports the Wii Remote (though I could be wrong, never checked it myself)

EDIT 2: Apparently it does work with the remote/nunchuk - cheers Double O!

Just loaded up and they are there now - i cant have tried after i made them favourites

Not sure if i will backup the wii, thinking about it the remotes and balance board etc will need to be sync'd between the consoles and i cant see the wife/kids going through that so will just run the wii u i feel and retire the wii. I quickly tried the wii mode and it seemed ok, not too bad a load time - i take it everything works ok?

Runner 2 finally has a Euro release date - and it's tomorrow!

The wait for a release date in Europe is over! Gaijin Games has confirmed that Runner2: Future Legend of Rhythm Alien will hit Europe on April 11th. No price point was given, but I'm guessing it'll fall in-line with what happened in the states.

A very poorly kept secret, but at long last confirmed:

Splinter Cell Blacklist confirmed for Wii U release

Splinter Cell Blacklist publisher Ubisoft has confirmed that the game is indeed heading to Wii U in August.

Gamespot tweeted that the game would release on Nintendo’s format from August 20.

Polygon added that the Wii U edition would drop August 22 across Europe and August 23 in the UK, and will come with a raft of Wii U GamePad features.

According to Nintendo, players will use the Wii U GamePad controller to operate protagonist Sam Fisher's tools, switch weapons, combat enemies and navigate environments.

Some Disney movie tie-in thing as well

Disney Interactive is bringing Disney`s Planes, a flying adventure video game inspired by the upcoming Disney animated comedy adventure film, exclusively to Nintendo platforms. The game will be available for the Wii U and Wii™ consoles as well as the Nintendo 3DS™ and Nintendo DS™ hand-held systems on Aug. 6, just a few days prior to the film`s Aug. 9 opening in theaters nationwide. The game will expand beyond the storyline of the Disney`s Planes film, offering players the opportunity to enjoy the thrill of flight as one of the popular characters from the film.

any good headsets like turtle beach ones for the wii u? Will the mic work if you just plu it into the headphone jack on the pad?

There are turtle beach headsets for Wii U:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B008YA9BVC (Black)

http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B008YA9BUI (White - more expensive for some reason)

There are also ones from Tritton:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B008KWT2H2 (White - more expensive again - weird!)

I have the turtle beach ones - and as the amazon reviews say, they are really quiet, not very loud at all! Its okay in monster hunter as the voice chat is dedicated output via the gamepad but for trine 2 with voice, music, sound its just really really quiet. If i could boost the volume somhow they would be supurb.

I wouldnt recomend them, my mobile phone wired hands free works better!
