Nintendo Wii U

what is so outrageous about that article?

the majors are betting on cloud gaming so its kind of inevitable Nintendo's hardware days are numbered in the long term.

ten years from now there will just be a Nintendo subscription App/Button on whatever hardware comes with your TV.

it doesn't mean the games will be any worse.

It's not the speculation that's objectionable, really. I just think there are bigger things to consider in "Nintendo goes thirdparty" than "Miiverse is an app".

I mean, he doesn't even acknowledge how Miiverse fits into a universe where every other console has its own iPhone app.

what would MiiVerse mobile actually do though. Drawing on a non-nintendo device is something I don't see happening.

I'd like to check my miiverse updates and see what people are saying about games.

It's certainly a much friendly place than here...

If you have to have a WiiU to set up the account I don't see what need there is for limitations.

Good point. I just think they need to add more to it. With no achievement system, no user to user/friend to friend mail system (or is there?), I just don't see much point to it. About the most useful thing would be having the eshop mobile to buy stuff/start downloading on the Wii U back home.

Maybe by 2050

Edit: Seeing pretty pictures of Princess Peach all day is cool and all, don't get me wrong, but hey.

well don't be talking shite about MiiVerse then... ;)

You could just as much say it's a interface problem if I didn't spot these things after a fair bit of use. Nintendo Network is supposed to be a fair bit simpler then Friend Codes, remember? Miiverse complaint is that it could have MOAR.

Sending messages via miiverse is good but I wish I got a better alert for them. The fact you can doodle and attach screenshots makes it pretty fun. I haven't played any online games yet but I wonder how awkward game invites might be?

I know it flashes but it'd be nice if you could get messages on the Gamepad, especially for games that aren't using Off TV play.

Yeah, but it flashes for folk coming online too, and for downloads finishing and so on. Unless they pulse in different morse code rhythms. A quick pop-up messenger and keyboard would be great to save going in to full-on miiverse for all replies.

They do actually pulse differently but I've got no idea what each of them means. And yep, pop ups on the Gamepad that you can just click and have an overlay would be brilliant.

You didn't spot that? Sounds like more of an 'in YOUR face' problem, right? Right?!

To be fair only Scott wanted to be my friend so it wasn't like I was actively searching for ways, either.

The ID tag should be Thirnova if I understood things correctly in that case. The confusion was it adding your ancient club account into the set up, not just...whatever the new system is.

Add me so we'll play online co-op Zelda in three years.

Edit: Oh and Mario Kart 8

It should flash the slot blue, just like old times

Aww, I knew there was something I missed about the Wii apart from GameCube BC! That was indeed a cool feature.

MiiVerse on smart phones? If this required Nintendo to give us unified accounts across hardware, Apple ID style, then bring it on...

So I bit the bullet and got the premium pack with Nintendoland

First thoughts? Update wasn't nearly as bad as I thought- maybe 4 mins max to update. Very good.

The stuff that made it a premium? Man, they are taking the piss! A sensor bar? (Should be in it by default- costs about a fiver for one online). A charger station? Oh, sorry- a bit of plastic. Two plastic feet so the console can stand? Didn't they give a bigger stand, for free, with the Wii? Personally- they should make the Nintendoland premium pack the standard, preloaded with a load of demos for 200 quid.

Controller is very nice- feels good and it's very cool. Like the fact I can control over my TV input and virgin media channel from it. S I could be ultra lazy, play on the controller screen and use the controller to switch over to The Professinals on ITV 4. Brilliant.

Demos are a great idea.

Miiverse seems to be pretty well put together.

Monster Hunter Tri seems a bit shit, from the demo. Am I right in that all you do is basically do a "Prince Phillip" and batter to death loads of stupid animals just standing around?

Graphics look nice and crisp, integration with the gamepad is really good.

Nintendoland is good fun, but little more than a collection of 99p AppStore games. This should have been given away for free. It's also got far too much shite between levels that just seem like padding. It isn't really "pick up and play" like Wii Sports of Wii Play.

Overall, it seems pretty good. I'll probably pick up Zombie and Batman. I'm pissed off that games are now 45 quid...

They should really get the price down. When I saw the premium pack for 190 quid, it was a bit of a no brainier. I still wasn't interested when it was 250. 8gb is also far too small for the basic, especially as the demo games just seem to be the full versions...
