Nintendo Wii U

Yeah, I misread your post - sorry :)

I don't have a problem if Epic say 'sorry, we can't bring UE4 to the Wii U at this time', I knew full well before buying the machine about its flaws and characteristics. I don't even recommend the machine to people unless they're fully aware of it themselves. It's the sneering by people in the industry that I don't understand or appreciate. It makes me wonder how professional they are when it comes to their job, to their efforts. It's all well and good saying stuff like 'thousands of people work for this company, the majority are honest pros' but how many games are released that feel janky? And it's not exactly a feature of technical restrictions or hardware because all through each console's lifetime, there are games that are horrible when it comes to frame rates and crashes.

If developers being a bit elitest about engines on whatever machine is your biggest concern about the "professionalism" (or lack thereof) in the industry, then fucking hell.

Of course it isn't my biggest concern. I've already said one of my biggest worries was the big publishers all chasing the big bucks and seemingly teetering on the edge despite the millions sold. It's more like the shitflakes on a shit milkshake, this.

I don't think it's a terribly unprofessional response, I just think he thought it was a dumb question. Asking if UE4 would run on WiiU is like asking if UE4 would be coming to the iPhone 5. It's a completely valid platform and one they have a lot of money in, but that particular engine isn't even remotely intended for it.

UE4 supports mobile devices and HTML.

Then I don't even. WiiU might be a small fraction of iOS device sales but I doubt that Infinity Blade etc. sales, the kind of games built on UE, beat WiiU software sales.

First party or third party Wii U sales?

Even so, Infinity Blade is supposedly their most profitable game ever, moreso than Gears 2 which sold nearly 7m copies.

Right, that's probably not true yet.

I figure that UE-game-using hardcore iOS gamers can't be more than two or three million, which the WiiU install base (who are all potential UE customers) should pass very soon.

I guess my point is that the huge iOS installed base doesn't translate into an equally huge need for UE4, so why isn't it on WiiU too?

That's why I bought it, for Nintendo games. Like I said, I owned a Saturn at the time, I've never been a single console owner since because it's daft if you're genuinely into games. I can see why someone who isn't as invested would only want one machine and why they'd be best served with a PS3 or 360.

You also have to realise that epic are selling an engine and want it to become THE next gen engine of choice. Thats where they want it to sell.

Aslo Mark Rein is an idiot. He claimed unreal 3 was the engine powering the wiiu's best games. Sorry Mark but no.

Why don't we just all just assume that only Nintendo will release anything for the thing from now on and anything else is a Brucie bonus?

That's definitely how the WiiU should be seen. A dedicated Nintendo player.

Personally I'd love to see them go software only next gen for a number of reasons...

1. I'd rather just have to buy one machine these days - forking out an extra few hundred quid for a Nintendo player isn't what I want to be doing.

2. No more wacky, pointless control mechanisms. Just standard gamepads.

3. They'll become current-gen again and have more raw power to play with, which would surely be a good thing.

4. It'd free up hardware dev resources for them which they could channel back into software allowing them to make a continuous stream of games.

It powers Funky Barn, so he's right.

Dear Nintendo,

Please stop making consoles, Jon would like to buy a Playstation because its super cool!!1 Maybe one day you can use the Raw power of the PS4 to make a Mario game look like the 1996 inspired upcoming title Klank or Krunk or Kack (You know the one that looks overly generic with terrible art)

Lots of love,

Jon's Mum

Well, of course I'm going to look at it from my perspective, so instead of sighs and childish replies why not try and give me your side of the story...

As I see it Nintendo's Achilles heel is their hardware focus. And I don't want to see sales figures for the Wii. I'm talking more about knowing what actual gamers want.

There's no denying they're one of the best software devs in the world, so it's only natural I want them to focuse their efforts there. Not on old tech and gimmicks.

I do love them. I always have, but they need a good shake up in my eyes.

Because the other thread's a bit stupid I'll say in here the problem with Nintendo is thusly. They make two completely different machines that play different games for some reason, despite them both sharing two screens and stuff. It's crazy. Could probably understand it if they were the biggest company in the world but they're a pretty small company. They only seem to have the resources to fully support one at a time. For the last year or they seem to have gone all out on the 3DS and they've done a pretty good job of it. They even managed to make a couple of great games for the WiiU.

So what I'd like them to do is to sort of go down the Monster Hunter route. A home console version and a handheld version of the same game that you can jump between.

Luigi's Mansion. They should have released a WiiU version too. They should do that for Animal Crossing. Fire Emblem. Resident Evil.
