And where were all the N64 EA games?

For someone who I assume owned every single Nintendo console, you seem to have a bit of a blind spot for what anybody apart from Nintendo actually released on them, I trawled the internet for a few minutes to compile a list for you:

Beetle Adventure Racing!

CyberTiger - never even heard of this one, Tiger Woods fronted Golf spinoff

FIFA '99

FIFA: Road to World Cup 98

FIFA Soccer 64

Golden Nugget 64 - Westwood Studios, WTF. NA exclusive aswell.

Hot Wheels Turbo Racing

J. League Live 64

Knockout Kings 2000

Madden Football 64

Madden NFL 99

Madden NFL 2000

Madden NFL 2001

Madden NFL 2002

NASCAR 99

NASCAR 2000

NBA Live 99

NBA Live 2000

NHL 99

Supercross 2000

Triple Play 2000

WCW Backstage Assault

WCW Mayhem

World Cup 98

The World Is Not Enough

and there's only one good game on that list...

Beetle Adventure Racing

You are correct. It's brilliant fun, actually.

I don't care for sports, so the only other ones I owned were The World Is Not Enough, which was actually ok, and Road to World Cup '98 which was alright, but not as good as the PSone version and pretty pointless since I had ISS 64 anyway.

ISS 64 - a legend.

Actually, the last footie game I actually ever really bothered with. All got a little too serious and dull from then on.

Hey something we can agree on :D

Though I preferred the first one KCEO released on the N64, Jikkyou J-League Perfect Striker, Japanese commentary was way more exciting than the stilted UK commentary from ISS64.

Noooooo the commentary on ISS64 was hilariously bad!

J league was in a different league tho, best football game ever and no where near as good as ISSS64 even if it was the same game ;)

Anyhoo, is the pricecut a HMV only thing or are others going to follow suit - im looking to get one to replace the wii and move off component onto hdmi so want best value ?

Also, is the netflix app decent - been using the wii one as i forgot 360 needs gold to run netflix :o ?

Got my Wii U a couple of days ago, as I just simply couldn't resist MH3.

I admit to being pretty grumpy about the Wii U in general. It was the little things like lack of an optical port and tiny storage, but I'll live with them.

Anyway, the GamePad is very nice - I really like the surround effect you get with the TV. Front end is slick, and the long load times haven't annoyed me as much as I thought they would. Nintendo Land is a great laugh; Mario Chase, Luigi's Mansion and Zelda Quest are our favourites. The motion control is smooth and precise, and most importantly lots of fun, so it's clearly not dead yet.

The lack of games issue won't matter for a while, as MH3 looks like it'll keep me occupied for months. And I've still got a ridiculous pile of shame on the 360/PS3.

I worked on this so you're now my favourite poster. And you have a Swanson avatar!

\o/ That genuinely made our summer. Between me and my mates we had practically every format covered. I had it on PC, two of us had it on N64 and one on Playstation - but the N64 won with big TV and 4 player. So many grudge matches...

Road to World Cup, you say

(The indoor footie mode was a blast)

FIFA 98 was great but WC 98 just seemed to have a greater balance, the skills weren't as godlike so you couldn't just do Marseille turns up the pitch and keepers on World Class weren't ridiculous. Plus it was one of the few games with diving in that actually worked as a multiplayer tool (though you got beats for you).

Oh man, totally nostalgic for it now.

On the subject of N64 games, this is the second time I've seen a NeoGAF love-in for Bomberman 64 since I first joined there sometime last year:

Utter madness. That game was beyond dreadful and until now I'd assumed that to be the consensus. My favourite kinda-dreadful N64 games are definitely San Francisco Rush, Body Harvest and Space Station Silicon Valley. I really want to see the last one resurrected on Virtual Console; I miss it.

Mark Rein appears to have announced that Unreal Engine 4 won't work on Wii U, at all.

“Hahaha no. I mean, sorry, it’s not really a correct answer. We’re not… we have Unreal Engine 3 for the Wii U. Right? And Unreal Engine 3 is powering all kinds of amazing games, still lots of games are being made with Unreal Engine 3. We announced today about a new Unreal Engine 3 license. Unreal Engine 3 doesn’t disappear because of Unreal Engine 4. But our goal for Unreal Engine 4 console-wise is next-gen consoles. That’s really what our energies are focused on. If you want to make a Wii U game, we have Unreal Engine 3, and it’s powering some of the best games on the Wii U already.”

RIP Wii U

Why RIP? Its nowhere near the only game engine on the market and it doesn't really change much with regards to Wii U 3rd party output. There are enough exciting devs on board, plus all the goodwill they are producing from indies and not to forget Nintendo and their second parties. This news, while disappointing and not entirely unsurprising, changes nothing.

The question of course is how many of those exciting devs will stay on board when their development studios move over to UE4. It's easy to port a PS3/Xbox 360 UE3 based game to Wii U, but if that platform is abandoned in favour of next gen hardware and middleware, supporting the Wii U will become a lot harder and more expensive as you'll have to rewrite your game or seriously downgrade it, just like it was much easier to port a PS2 game to the Wii rather than scaling down a PS3 or 360 title.

The Wii U uses hardware that's more or less as powerful as the current Xbox 360 or PS3. It's certainly still more powerful than your average mobile device. Epic has been unclear about the Wii U's support for UE4 in the past, with Epic co-founder Mark Rein telling Videogamer that Epic doesn't intend to bring the engine to Wii U, but that "if a customer decides they want to port an Unreal Engine 4 game to Wii U, they could."

You know, I can't help but feel like there's an undercurrent of unprofessionalism amongst some people in the industry. It's one thing for gamers to take the piss out of a console but it's another thing when it comes to developers. Fingers get pointed at Nintendo for their hardware but how is anyone supposed to believe down the line that a company like Epic or EA are going to put 100% into their future offerings on Wii U?

It's all very good saying that Sony are going to descend from the mountain with divinity in the form of the PS4 but if once again there's a slow uptake for the next gen, what are these devs going to do? Twiddle their thumbs or continue to fulfil demand on current gen machines?

Basically I'm less inclined to buy a game from a company that acts like dickheads, on any machine.

RIP Wii U

Man, the full story on Kotaku is much better than the paltry bit from VG247 you just quoted:

I figured I'd ask straight-out, so during the Q&A with Rein, I did. "Will UE4 run on the Wii U?"

"Hahaha no." Rein said, with expert comedic timing. The room erupted with laughter. As the laughs died down, Rein continued: "I mean, sorry, it's not really a correct answer. We're not… we have Unreal Engine 3 for the Wii U. Right? And Unreal Engine 3 is powering all kinds of amazing games, still lots of games are being made with Unreal Engine 3. "Nothing controversial, guys," he jokingly chided.

A room full of professional game developers laughing at the Wii U... not good, surely?

Unprofessionalism? How so? The UE4 was designed with next-gen specs in mind, the Wii U isn't anywhere near that. How are they dickheads for putting a current-gen engine on a current-gen machine and a next-gen engine on next-gen machines?

Taken from Neogaf

No Frostbite

No UE4

No CryEngine(?)

I don't think it's a terribly unprofessional response, I just think he thought it was a dumb question. Asking if UE4 would run on WiiU is like asking if UE4 would be coming to the iPhone 5. It's a completely valid platform and one they have a lot of money in, but that particular engine isn't even remotely intended for it.

American developers... Not just publishers, don't want to work on WiiU.

The devs are mid-late 20s and want to work on fancy tech. They want to be doing cool stuff. Peter Moore himself said that they wanted to do stuff on Wii but the dev teams were up in arms about it.
