Frostbite 3 is not coming to Wii U: http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2013-03-28-the-big-battlefield-4-interview-dice-leaves-technology-behind

In a move that surprises no one, EA's support continues to whither and die. To be honest, I don't even care at this point. I hope the vacuum that they leave behind allows other companies to get a step into sports and RPGs.

I hadn't heard that MiiVerse stuff before, sounds interesting. Launching levels directly from comments sounds fun, especially if you could tie it to 'challenges' and so forth.

I found the Battlefield trailer monumentally depressing, personally.

EA really do have a bug up their arse about nintendo. Considering Frostbite is now EA's goto engine for everything then the chances of ports has decreased. The irony of this is that crytek's cryengine works just fine on the WiiU so you may see more games use that.

If you look back at things then you can see that EA dislikes any competition. Just look how they epically shat on sega with the dreamcast. No wonder they are hated even by their own staff.

Went to Tesco to pick up Lego City and they have no knowledge of its existance. Same with Monster Hunter. Nintendo really don't know what they are doing do they? Its been months since a big game has launched on the console so maybe now would be the time to shout from the roof tops that new games have come out and theres some great stuff to play on it. Instead they've decided to only let the super special Wii U owners who know the secret location with the secret knock and the secret hand shake access to these games.

It'd be like Microsoft launching Halo 5 and then not bothering to make any copies or advertise it. Now is the time to release games Nintendo, not hold back stock so you can proclaim a sell out of 5 copies.

I've been in few supermarkets that stock Wii U at all, let alone new release games. No Tesco or Asda stores within at least 35 miles of me have had anything, not even at launch.

The mystery is whether it's entirely a retailer decision not to fully stock the thing at this point in time or a decision taken with Nintendo who have barely advertised (even on release) and, for all intents and purposes, appear to have 'soft launched' under the faulty impression that the first five million consoles would sell themselves.

Need For Speed is more or less online retail and eShop only - no UK chain is stocking it in store, Game & HMV included. Monster Hunter is online or Game for £49.99. There was a placeholder Lego box in HMV when I was in there last week though.

Someone in this or other thread mentioned that MH3 and Lego have both been short shipped which is pretty damn stupid for a console that hasn't had a new big hitter since launch last year. Its like the N64 days again with few releases and even then at times limited stock due to demand. The Tesco i was at has a pretty large range of Wii U stuff, including consoles and accessories but even there chart sheet had no mention of these two games.

I do think we're going to see effectively a bit of a 're-launch' soon...

In the office here, a couple of guys were talking about OUYA. They thought it was a daft idea but we had a bit of a chat about it anyway... they're not hardcore gamers by any stretch of the imagination, but they work in IT and they both owned either a PS3 or a 360... in fact, on of the guys was saying how he thought that the OUYA controllers was ripping off the PS4 controller.

Anyway... neither of them new there was a new Nintendo machine out. Neither had heard of the WiiU.

Shows you how bad it is if they knew more about the OUYA than the WiiU....

You do remember what happened to the last company which EA took off their RSVP list?, unless Nintendo are finally going to step out of their comfort zone and man-up, they need EA more than EA need Nintendo.

That's an hilariously short-sighted comparison and I suspect you know it.

EA took Nintendo off their RSVP list 15 years ago though.

Don't think so, Nintendo were so desperate for EA support with the GameCube, they cut them special priviledges, even rumoured to have cut their royalty rate for them to keep them on board, and they whored out Mario to EA for several games.

The 3DS would have been so much more successful had EA supported it.

Not to mention the fact that FIFA, Madden et al have been selling incredibly well on Nintendo platforms. It's exactly like Sega where EA software was pivotal & by far the biggest third-party contributor to the company's only successful console; EA is as synonymous with current-day Nintendo as it was '90s Sega.

Don't get me wrong, it's not a positive development, but EA have seldom bought their biggest non-sports franchises to Nintendo platforms. It's generally sport (which flops, and does so even more emphatically when soulless "wacky" turds are served up to Nintendo owners) + licensed shovel-ware. With Wii, they expanded into the "mediocre family-casual" market for, well, almost all of their non-sport software...

And where were all the N64 EA games?

Despite really enjoying my Wii U, I do think Nintendo need to foster better relations & work intensively with third parties - it's in their best interests too, but I think it's been clear since the N64 era that there will be certain games deemed unsuitable for the Nintendo-market. Now, at the same time I don't think third-parties have really sought to carve their own space with Nintendo gamers over an extended period - they've given up too easily or missed a crucial sequel here or there.

It's a double-sided problem, but were it not for E3 2011, I would have never expected Nintendo to get Battlefield; it's just not the sort of thing EA have considered viable for such platforms in the past, going back several generations. Losing the sports would be a setback, albeit a relatively minor one, but they cannot afford to haemorrhage support indefinitely. Derided as Activision are by some, between 2006 - 2011 every CoD game bar Modern Warfare 2 received a pretty respectable Wii port. Looked rough as old boots given the hardware, but there was obviously real effort put into bringing the games in a reasonably complete form to a platform woefully unequipped for them.

Similarly, Ubisoft are doing a stellar job, Rayman port-delay malarkey notwithstanding. Zombi U, ACIII, Rayman Legends ACIV, Watch Dogs. That is really good support.

If Nintendo lose the sports, CoD and suffer a cooling of relations with a key supporter like Ubi, *then* major problems could be afoot. I just don't think we're there yet.

Bought a basic Wii U yesterday. Managed to secure the last copy of Monster Hunter as well. But, the shop assistant had trouble finding their last remaining copy of Zombi U and the actual console. This was in Game and its one of the few remaining stores here in Northern Ireland. The staff are all really enthusiastic and knowledgable so it's a shop I have no problem using. They did tell me it's quite some time since they've sold a Wii U but the fact I got the last two copies of two fairly key titles is very strange indeed.

They need to pull their heads from their arses. Pikmin is looking unlikey this side of E3 and as great as it looks, it's not going to shift Wii Us in the numbers they need to. Then they are fighting for mind share against next gen and GTAV, which will sell shedloads of their current-gen competitors. The new Mario is going to have to make people shit their minds from their ears to start turning things around.

It has to be an official price cut - which will make it two misfires in a row that Iwata has to answer for.

Monster Hunter And Price Cut Trigger Wii U Sales Spike In UK

Posted Fri, 29 Mar 2013 | 08:00 GMT by Damien McFerran

Wii U gets a lift in the UK

125 percent increase compared to previous week

MCV has reported that Wii U hardware sales rose by 125 percent in the UK last week.

The staggering leap is thought to have been caused by the UK launch of Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate, as well as HMV's price reduction on the Premium bundle - a deal which represents a saving of £140.

Finally some good news for Nintendo fans.
