Nintendo Wii U

Really glad they've done it, but shocking how bad it was on release and shocking that they release a video to show how much their menu time has improved.

Is the miiverse time improved too I wonder. I'd got used to the quirks of the system but it was putting me off going into the menus tbh.

Spelunky would be a good port because it would benefit from being played with a decent D-pad.

I don't care about the big retail ports - I have a PC and very few of them would have enough benefit added from the GamePad to justify going for a version which is more expensive and looks worse than on PC. It's smaller download games they should be going after, because those are the ones where off screen play and any small GamePad enhancements will make me go for the Wii U version.

It's good that they actually seem to be making a big push at GDC. Apparently Intel are offering to convert any iOS app to play on "Nintendo" at their stand.

How many ways?

Man, I know who's side I'd rather be on in this thread, the gleeful snipes always make me cringe.

I wouldn't mind some more ports, as long as they had gamepad play. I'll most likely not buy or play any of the multi format releases at the moment despite having a full console repertoire, I just don't have enough TV time. Never even opened Far Cry 3, I reckon I'd have given it a shot on the gamepad. Could turn into what is hoped the Vita would be at launch.

Despite that, I don't really mind. A launch console (or any console) isn't an investment, I'm happy to be part of launch day excitement and now wait for the first party games.

And before release people said the service side wasn't rushed.

Who said that? I seem to remember it was so rushed a lot of it came on a day one download, but hey, maybe I imagined that.

You guys do crack me up though. Remember when you were all upset that the Wii purchases weren't playable on the gamepad? All that stuff about how your PS3 purchases were just there, to use on any future Sony console. How did that work out for you? I think you all moaned when the Wii dropped GC backwards compatibility. You guys all sure stopped moaning about that when the PS4 was announced. Anyway, keep fighting the good fight! One day you'll get your wish.

So - company changes something lots of people complain about. Company makes video showing that its a real improvement. Entitled hordes laugh at company.

This video, the leaflet. Since when was it such a bad thing to provide lots of information about your product?

I kinda hope loads of iOS games/apps get converted to WiiU purely to watch Scott tie himself in knots trying to say its a good thing despite fact he hates most iOS output :)

the ultimate woul dbe if he said they were better on WiiU because of the more accurate resistive screen :P

It's certainly cool that they've decreased the load time. Being reminded of it again in that video is just shocking. How could they have thought that would be acceptable in todays world of instant on ipads, home buttons etc. Crazy. Unfortunately I still think it's too slow, I was sat there thinking ok 'now!' no right then '..now!' and still nothing. :(

I really don't think it's worth sniping for then showing the video.

They fucked it up. People have rightly complained. Nintendo have listened and are fixing it. To prove they're doing this and to give some consumer confidence they've released a video to show people that its coming up and it does make a big difference because its not quote ready yet. Before that you had loads of people saying "I bet the Spring update doesn't fix it". Now you don't have that.

People rip the shit out of them for doing so.

I see what you're saying, that it shouldn't have happened in the first place but that's old news. Microsoft shouldn't have released a poorly made console which culminated in most units dying within 3 years. But they fixed it (sort of) and moved on. This is NOWHERE NEAR as bad as that.

I don't play any iOS games. I'd like to see them all on the WiiU. I'm not tying myself up in knots. I'd like to see every single game ever made on the WiiU. Yes, even ones I hate.

I don't really see what's wrong about a video showing improvements? The slow UI is a source of complaint, by releasing this video they show they take the complaint seriously and actually do something to fix it. Can only be a good thing surely?

You'd think wouldn't you.

I hate games designed around F2P and IAPs. Yes. And I hate games designed around gamepad controls being shoehorned onto touchscreens.

I thought Year Walk was brilliant. And GoatUp2 is my toilet game of choice just now

I don't see anyone complaining about the speed up, just saying that it was embarrassing that it was that bad in the first place.

Obviously it's from people who don't have Wii Us and were surprised by how shitty it was compared to literally every other electronics device in existence since 1998.

yeah, 8 whole seconds to leave a game and load the menu with the miiverse plaza thing. I haven't got that kind of time to waste.
