Nintendo Wii U

Yeah, and they're not being updated. You have to buy them all over again. If you've transferred them to your Wii U you get a discount.

People better get used to this kind of rogering, as that's exactly what will happen with your PSN and XBLA purchases on their respective next machines too.

Remember when the console was announced and they showed that incredible looking Unreal demonstration to show that they'd arrived with the big boys and had the grunt to play the games?

Well how come I didn't get the ultimate console version of Bioshock delivered to my wiiU then? Christ if I was Nintendo I'd have bunged Levine a pretty packet and distributed it myself if they'd put the work in and used it to show the power was always there after all. It's just one missed opportunity after another.

Nintendo's attitude when it comes to third-party titles still seems stuck in the SNES days.

Though I feel Bioshock is a bit of an odd example. There would be no way of securing platform-exclusivity for Infinite, and I doubt having the best version of the game on the Wii U would drive system sales - there are many more PS3s, PCs and 360s out there, so the userbase would guarantee it would be the worst seller out of that lot.

I agree that Nintendo need to do more - a lot more - to court third-party developers and make sure multi-format releases come out on the Wii U, though disagree that throwing loads of money at titles like Bioshock is the answer. I doubt they would get much in return for such an outlay.

Though, admittedly, having such releases on every console bar Wii U can send out a negative image. I imagine this won't improve when the PS4/Durango hit.

It's less of a rogering than the others from what I gather. At least you can transfer the games you bought from your Wii. Are you even going to be able to buy current PSN/XBLA games on the next gen consoles?

Well, to be precise it's a different sort of rogering. Your PSN and XBLA games just flat out won't work on the new consoles.

Iwata gave this reason for the drastic measures taken with the 3DS, so why doesn't this apply to the Wii U which seems on an even worse trajectory? They needed a price cut and AAA software to bump start the 3DS, the Wii U needs that even more, zero momentum=DOA:

Strong momentum is very important for game platform businesses and a strong software lineup to vitalize a platform is necessary to maintain this momentum. In the first half of this year, however, we could not make the continuing sales of the first-party software released last year as we had planned, nor, in the course of preparation of the next platform, could we release new key titles for the existing platform in a timely fashion due to completion delays until the latter half of this year.

As the worldwide number of pre-orders indicated, the Nintendo 3DS, our new platform launched this year, had high expectations from consumers as well as market and industry players. However, the actual sales after the launch did not meet the expectations, and based on the judgment that we could not get it back to its originally-anticipated sales pace as a sound successor to the Nintendo DS unless we took action, we made an immediate decision and announced the price markdown around three months ago, at the same time of the announcement of financial results in late July.

The present result of the markdown is just an improvement of sales pace of the hardware. After the upcoming November, however, anticipated titles for Nintendo 3DS will be continually released, which we hope will bring a big boost in the year-end sales season. We would like to thereby fulfill our responsibility to ensure bright prospects for this platform toward the next fiscal year and beyond.

Surely its all about perception. Why would your average consumer buy a WiiU when he can nip to Sainsburys and get a PS3, Bioshcock Infinite and Tomb Raider for around £200 when these games arent even out on the WiiU? These games are much more accessible and well known than pretty much all of the WiiU library at the moment.

The person who wants BioShock ultimate already has a PC, PS3 or Xbox or a combination there of. There is no one in the world who desires to play that game and does not yet have a platform to play it on.

So, you're saying Nintendo's strategy of finally bringing current gen HD games to a Nintendo Platform is utterly pointless? It's funny how everyone was worried about how 3rd party support would dry up once developers moved to next gen, when it turns out they can't even get the games to Wii U this generation.

Indeed, it sets a precedent for the next-gen multiformat titles, which is worrying.

They should be able to port titles over to the Wii U relatively easily. In fact I was worried that we might see too many lazy ports with simply a map screen slapped on the gamepad.

Personally, I care little about having games like Bioshock on the Wii U, and I doubt it would make a difference toyou the console's sales per se, having it there. But, like someone said, it does portray a negative image.

And the PS3/360 are still selling, as you can get a console for a decent price, use it as a multimedia device and get a massive library of cheap games readily available.

If we consider that many Wii sales were first time console buyers, then if I only had a Wii, what would I rather pick up - the PS3/360 or the more expensive Wii U?

I like the Wii U and am quite partial to first party Nintendo titles, but getting a 360/PS3 over it would be a no-brainer.

Yeah, I can imagine plenty of kids who only have Nintendos and want to play the games advertised on TV.

I worked with a scout group a few years back and the kid who only had a Wii because of overprotective parents and had to try and get his mates interested in Sonic and Mario at the Olympic 2, when they're all playing CoD MW 2 at age 10 was tragic to behold.

Well - my Xbox is currently dead. People upgrade to the new quiet boxes...

My point being is that there are millions upon millions of these things out there... And most of the big money games reach only a tiny fraction of the user base.

The very definition of 'niche'

I tend to use my 360 more for those kind of games and the wii u as a family console that has games suitable for the kids etc...to be honest though, because those games are becoming more prevalent in our house Im finding less and less desire to play COD or things of that ilk

Nintendo's marketing department is truly useless. Saw a new nintendo survey in my inbox, 50 stars for filling it out it says, but half the time these stop working half way let alone allowing me to register. Nonetheless given their current situation I wondered what they'd be asking about.

Long story short it was a Animal Crossing New Leaf advert. The survey started fine enough with questions about if I play free to play games (be it smartphone, tablet or PC), if I'm playing them currently, and if I prefer games that told me 'exactly' what to do next or not. It was slightly irritating it had to ask me my country, age and sex, don't they already know my details in the 10+ year old club account its already linked to?

Then the Animal Crossing stuff started, and it pretty much made me hate the game by the time the survey ended.

Despite telling the survey I've played every single AC game, am extremely interested in the next title, and that I actively have searched out information about it, and still playing the DS one. It still asks me how likely i'm to buy it. From extremely unlikely to extremely likely. Well, waddayathink, sherlock.

It got worse.

It then gave me a description of the game, asked me what I think of it, and asked me what if it made me any more interested in the title.

It then asked me how likely I am to buy it.

It then showed me a video ad, asked me if I could see it, asked me if it was any good (I said it was bland compared to the US and JP ads), and then asked me again if it'll affect me any further in wanting to buy it or not.

The most irritating thing is asking me about if I believe these descriptions do the game justice. Its like 'please make us feel confident in our marketing' and 'please, please buy this title'.

It then asked if I'd be getting the card or eshop version. And then why cart. (because it costs less then what your selling it for).

Did I mention it even introduces me to New Leaf despite asking prior if I'm a fan of the series or not?

Fuck off Nintendo. Fucking clueless twats at survey design. Fuck your special SNES controllers.

Never again.
