Nintendo Wii U

I've just got so many other games backing up on Steam, Vita, 3DS, xbox and PS3 that I won't miss the Wii U for now. Someone else might as well get some enjoyment out of it whilst I've no time to play anything on it. Hopefully by the time I rebuy it there'll be a healthly back catalogue of games for me to plough through.

In fact ill say it.

If you ditch your Wii U because it haz no gamez 5 months in then YOU'RE NOT A PROPER GAMER.

Nothing to do with being a proper gamer. It's just very short sighted.

The first year of a platform's existence is usually pretty barren for releases. Why would you buy a console at or near launch if you need a steady release schedule? It makes no sense. It's not something that's going to get better either. Developers need time to adjust to new hardware no matter how easy it is develop for. The time needed is only going to up as games get more complex.

I also don't get the need for constant releases either. Does anyone actually use the Wii U as their only gaming device? I've just finished Tomb Raider and have Gears and God of War waiting. Fuck knows what I'll play on the PS3 and 360 afterwards, but I'm not actually that bothered. Am I just weird or something?

I was being flippant.

But no you're not weird. I would have expected most people who have bought a Wii U to have another console. I have a PC and a PS3. Though j pretty much only play the PC and the Wij U at the moment.

Not what I remember from the PS2, Xbox, PS3 and Xbox 360.

Then your memory is deceiving you.

According to the list of games released for the 360, by this date, there had been 22 retail games released for the system. The Wii U so far has 35 retail games released for it. The 360 had 8 exclusives. The Wii U has 11.

This list does not take into account Live Arcade or e-shop releases.

As an aside, in the States, the PS3 had 29 retail games by this point in it's life. 9 of these were exclusive, and again, not figuring in the PSN stuff.

And just before anyone whines about some of those 35 Wii U games being late ports, then the early years of the 360 was also victim to many cross generation ports, and the PS3 got a lot of late ports from the 360.

Pretty much. The Wii seemed to do pretty well with Nintendo releasing a game every month or so in the first year, but they had the advantage of being able to move GC releases like Super Paper Mario over.

I'm with JP on the NFSMWU handling thing - it makes me feel more like Mr Bean than Lewis Hamilton, and does a pretty terrible job of easing you in - if certain cars are better then that's what they should be opening the game up with. Don't make me play for hours to earn enough stuff to finally make it feel like it should from the get-go.

I'm sure I'll get used to it at some point, but right now it feels like I'm fighting to control the car even on a straight road whereas surely it should be making me feel like a mofo bad-ass speedy driver with uber driving skills.

Does look lovely though, and appears to be rammed with stuff to do.

Oh, one last thing - the menu interface is clumsy beyond words - especially the way it dumps you back after completing a race and then often ends up with being swarmed by the cops while all you're trying to do is select the next race from the options tree.

The first few months of the Xbox 360 were woeful, I remember the contents of the official magazine resembled late-period Amiga games mags in terms of the number of games being reviewed. Some months there’d only be two or three games released.

Fair point. My problem with the wii u has less to do with the machine itself, the gamepad or any of that but is all to do with the direction Nintendo having been going in. The games are just not games I want to play.

For me Zelda is my Nintendo yardstick and I adored Ocarina and loved windwaker with mucho great love. I also really liked Twilight Princess (Midna might well be my best Zelda character ever). I didn't like Skyword Sword though for all sorts of reasons (and didn't like the motion controls in it either), sort of liked phantom hourglass but hated spirit tracks with mucho great hate. If Zelda had being getting better rather than worse I'd have had to buy a wii u..... but it hasn't and nor does it look like it ever will.

Has anyone heard anything about Scribblenauts yet? We still don't know why it was delayed :(

They're trying to get it in the shops but can't remember the correct syntax. Van. Lorry. Dropship. None of its working. They even tried getting a cripple to box an opera singer. It's not looking good.

I can understand people not getting a WiiU. More surprised at people getting one and not liking it. A second screen is most definitely the future. It's fucking brill. For all the PS4's RAM the lack of a second screen will, for me, make it seem a bit backward.

Don't be silly. It has a Vita!

Ah, it's been too long, you are right. :)

But there is a difference in the way Nintendo deals with software and third party as opposed to others, is there not? For example, if PS3 or Xbox 360 had a barren first year release schedule, that wouldn't worry me much. But in the case of the Wii U, I'm not convinced we will see good games which are not ports and which are not exclusives. At least, that's what stopping me from buying one.

the difference between the 360 launch and this are atleast you had a couple of games that felt like your were justified in owning a new next gen system. stuff you couldn't get on other home consoles.

The Wii U has none of that.

amazing no-one at nintendo saw it coming - must be panic stations at Kyoto right now, and I for one - can't wait until E3 to see something exciting

Well, I picked up the last premium console at my HMV this lunchtime for £200. No more stock of Zombi-U, which is a shame, but a bargain nonetheless.

All I know is that there will be great games to come, Nintendoland looks fun in the meantime, and my son will be ecstatic when he sees what daddy bought to surprise him.

If it'd been on PS3 or 360 it would have still sold fuck all, but there would have been much more online blaring about it. It's the best game on the console so far for me.

Anyway, over the last 4 days I've been to 2 Sainsbury's, 1 Tesco Extra, a Blockbuster, a Smyths Toys and an Argos. Guess how many copies of Monster Hunter 3 Ulitmate I found.

I'll put it another way, guess how many had even had STOCK of Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate. You can have 3 guesses but you'll only fucking need 1.

That's a real shame as it's genuinely one of the most interesting and tense games I've played in ages.

I don't care. Zombies? How interesting. Not enough stuff around about Zombies at the moment.

Now if it was called Kitty U and was about kittens and fluffyness. Then I would be playing it RIGHT NOW!
