Nintendo Wii U

Bound to have already been mention so quick yes/no answer would be great. I can change the screen size to fit my Samsung TV in the eShop, but it doesn't carry over outside of the shop. Just means the health bar on MH is a bit off the screen. Can't adjust this to fit on the actual telly. Anything I can do?

Isn't there an option in the Wii U system settings menu itself? The original Wii had some options to switch between widescreen etc.

No, you can choose the connection type and resolution but you can't adjust the ratio (16:9 is greyed out).

NFS controls seem heavy until you realise that you just cannot go at things full speed. Also there is a noticable difference in the way some cars handle. It's good fun.

You're not wrong there, been driving about in a bugatti i think, holy moly, the whole thing is a blur until I somersault over a brick wall. Fun fun.

Anecdote time: My local big sainsbury's (with tellies, white goods, several aisles for clothes etc etc, not just your groceries) has only a few Wii U's on a bottom shelf of their games aisle and only Mario, NintendoLand and ZombiU. All of which are on the same shelf and mixed in with, the Wii games.

Don't Nintendo know about this sort of behaviour, as I can't imagine it's unique to that Sainbo's, it's just a terrible display and advertising. It's not really a surprise it isn't selling if it isn't even positioned as something different to the Wii, maybe the local manager didn't read a brief from Nintendo or something. It's just weird.

I don't really know anything about retail but I imagine Nintendo must pay for the shelf space somewhere along the way and if I was aware that was the sort of shit display and stock I was getting, I'd be well annoyed.

Having said that, I'm not even sure they sell any Vita stuff at all, quite a bit of xbox stuff though.

Also, in regards to Sainsbury's business, what with HMV going down the toilet and the only other place to buy any form of games in the surrounding areas to my particular sainsburys is either going into Kingston a good 20 mins in the car, or 20 odd mins to a Blockbuster in twickenham, if they actually bothered with any sort of proper amount of stock and prices, they would clean up. I'd go there as it is still technically the closest to my house and I'm sure others would too.

I find it so strange that for what is apparently such a large and lucrative industry, it's still treated like porn or something, with only exclusive shops unwelcoming to the newcomer, or all done over the internet and unmarked deliveries...

Does anyone know if HMV would hold stock in reserve for collection, if I were to ring up tomorrow? I won't a tally be able to go down Monday and fear the stock may be gone by then.

Not sure the low prices across the board will hold much longer - if the console gets a shot in the arm at E3 (and that is a big if, I suppose), then retailers may keep faith in it a little longer.

I know its early but NFS and MH3U haven't provided the entertainment I was exepecting. As mentioned by some here, with NFS I find the handling poor, which pretty much spoils the game, which is a shame as everything else about it is great. I really enjoyed the MH3U demo, but the full game i'm finding a bit slow. I didn't expect there to be so much 'other stuff' other than the actual combat, really slows the game down and as such I don't feel a pull to go back to it. I'll obviously give both games more time but at the moment I feel a little disappointed with them.

Luckily i've bought Trials for the PC which is awesome, and have Bioshock Infinite, Luigis Mansion 2 and Lego coming next week, so i'm sure a couple of those will keep me entertained !!

I don't think the games industry is nearly as healthy as it pretends to be. The blockbuster side, anyway. You don't have major film studio closures and mass firings of movie crews every six months.

Fair point.

At the same time, I really don't think it does itself any favours either, in various ways.

I still have a quiet hope that it evolves in a way that film has. Michael Bay jokes aside, if games these days are the equivalent of I suppose Hollywood in the 30's / 40's (if my calculations are correct) then there's a long way to go still.

I'll be a happy old codger looking back on these times if gaming gets to a similar level of acceptance etc by the time I'm 80 or something.

The handling isn't poor though. I know you only said you found it poor but remarks like that could give Napoleon a stuffy. The handling's great with the pad. Don't even notice the digital triggers.

Can you actually drive around normally and stay in lane? I just find it impossible, the slightest touch of the left stick sends me too far and I'm into an over-correction feedback loop. The comparison with Burnout Paradise is quite stark for me. The difference between the two handling models is where my lack of ability really hurts. I can drive around Burnout Paradise effortlessly - weaving in and out of traffic, not hitting things (mostly).

I fully admit to being cack handed and generally avoid any kind of realistic driving game.
