Nintendo Wii U

Do you really think Wind Waker is the only first party game from Nintendo between Pikmin and Christmas?

Really?

No of course not Scott. But we're talking a killer game(s) here. A game that will shift consoles. A game that will, probably coupled with a price cut or Ambassador program, kick start the Wiiu again.

From SMDs list I only see Mario Kart, Mario Galaxy and whatever Retro is working on, delivering that. And when, when are those titles going to be released? How far along are they? And will even they be the sort of smash hit title that Nintendo needs now?

I've no doubt whatsoever that Nintendo have a lot of cool things planned but from the way they've messed up their launch schedule, do people have much faith in them to be able to get that cool stuff out in time?

We don't know. If they've been working on them the length of time they've been quiet, in theory Retro's game (for example would be available at Christmas.

If.

The negativity and added impatience with this particular console stems from the frustration that Nintendo has totally ballsed up what should have been a strong first year for Wii U. The one and only year where it could have been host to the best versions of multiformat titles. The reality is it's lucky if it gets shoddy ports at the moment.

We didn't even need an onslaught of first-party titles. We needed Tomb Raider, Bioshock and Metal Gear and we needed them to look slightly better than on other consoles and freshen things up with the GamePad.

Surely a couple of game announcements right now is needed to stop all this mounting negativity towards the machine.

It's utterly bonkers. It has the potential to be one of the greatest game consoles of all time and yet there is hardly any firm backup from Nintendo it seems

It's Nintendo. They move to their own beat and then wonder why everyone's left the room.

Only if you owned an import adapter. ;) (And I don't blame anyone who did in 1992; that was the golden age for SNES/SFC import games, before Nintendo started to circumvent adaptors.)

Not quite true... SF2 was released in Aug 92 for Europe (91 for US and JAP). The SNES launched in Europe in June 92- so you had two months to wait until the next killer title was out.

Maybe I'm coming across as overly negative about the Wii U. I know I'll end up getting one. But at the moment, there's no killer title to justify me spending at least £200 on a console. Zombie U looks pretty decent, and I'm sure it's fun.. but it's not what you would call a AAA title.

We'll see what games like Lego City and the like will do- it does look like it's improving..

But hey, the DS needed a year before it really took off and Brain Training and Nintendogs were released.

The entire industry has ADHD

Yeah I think it got posted in here before, one of the reasons I think that something went down behind the scenes between EA and Nintendo because their relationship seems to have soured rapidly.

Nintendo saw what they were planning with SimCity and told them to bolt

I've said this before, but we need to wait until Mario Kart U and Wii Fit U are out. If they don't drive sales, I doubt anything will, but if they do, things may change.

So what's the angle on these? I'd say you could put ideas into Wii Fit, but what about Mario Kart?

How do they come at that one?

What ideas would you add to Mario Kart on the Wii U? Because I'm shit out of ideas. That sucker is MILKED!

Ridge Racer currently has the same problem :(

I assume Triple Dash will be 3 player co-op. one player steers, one player controls the pedals & one fires power-ups.

If you don't have 3 friends then annoying, catch phrase screaming, trigger happy kamikaze AI does 2/3 for you.

Even without the new ideas, Mario Kart is one of the few franchises that can actually risk being the same, in my view. By that I mean give us new tracks.

I'm just happy to see a all-new Rainbow Road every few years.

Rainbow Road is usually dreadful though. Except the Super Circuit one.

Is not! GC's and 3DS's was awesome, I find. (and yes, SC) N64's long and boring but has a fair bit of nostalgia personally. The fact they continue with similar scenery and music theme continues my love of the track. It's the perfect bookend to the games.
