Nintendo Wii U

Unfortunately I got all of those cross platform games on the 360 already, apart from the mess that is ACIII as I didn't know I would be getting a WiiU so all I have is NSMBU, NintendoLand and ZombiU. Which just isn't cricket imho.

Three unique games since lauch is a bit weak no matter how much you spin it and I do love the machine.

Pointless post I know, just having a gripe and I'm sure it will sort it's life out soon but it is a bit of a shame.

Chasing aurora is only a fiver now... Rude not too

Demo isn't very impressive. Seems like a dull version of NiGHTS.

I take it Monster Hunter U is going to be up on the estore as a download on day 1?

I have a stack of credit and assuming its £50 I'll be getting it digitally.

According to the eShop, yes.

powered up my wii u for the first time since the update. christ its slow. like 19- 20 seconds to get between settings and main menu, slow.

is that normal? or has something gone wrong with it during the update?

Going between the settings and the main menu is the slowest transition (and it *really* is slow for some reason) - everything else is/should be quicker now though (the latest update maybe shaved a second or so off for most people in most areas). How often do you really need to go into the settings - I think I've only opened them once or twice, it's not something you need to be constantly accessing is it?

It's certainly not great. They need to get software on the shelves. If they are not working absolutely flat out on getting Mario Kart and/or Mario 3D out before the end of the year (at the absolute latest) then they are mental.

yes - it's bad.

but they'll fix it.

The Wii died too quickly so they launched too early, when they didn't really have the software line up in place that they needed.

3rd party support is no surprise, it's been rubbish since the N64 for Nintendo. But there's millions of people out there who will buy one if the next Zelda/Mario/Metroid/FZero whatever is good enough...

but you're looking more at a gamecube 2. Which for people like me who'll always have the PS4 as well - that's fine... but it becomes a platform you buy for Nintendo games and quirky Japanese games.

I also don't think it's Nintendos last console - and I think they'll stick with the gamepad as a standard controller, and upgrade the unit itself.

We'll see... but you know for a fact we're still going to get a 3D Mario and a big Zelda and probably a Metroid and hopefully an FZero too... as well as a new Pikmin, Smash Bros.. and I'm hoping that the rumour of Kid Icarus Uprising on WiiU becomes true as well.

So - there may be long gaps filled mainly by indie games... but hey...

Anyone who thinks Nintendo are going to go software only though is totally mental.

It's appalling. Fortunately, there are still an awful lot of people who either don't know of it's existence / think it's an add-on / new iteration of the Wii with a ludicrously priced U-Draw thing. Combined with proper advertising, a quality pre-Christmas line-up (I presume!) and the essentially confirmed price-cut (Iwata's denials are as convincing and realistic as Mitt Romney), it has much more room for improvement than GameCube did a a similar point.

I think it will be fine, and I'm not convinced the PS4 / Xbox are going to take off amazingly, especially if the price is higher than £300. This generation has been a marathon, with an abnormally large amount of the HD user-base have only jumping on board within the last three years. Before prices came down to earth hardware sales were pretty lacklustre, and there's no DVD or HD-style driver this time, either.

the key thing Nintendo need to do is get an account that allows you to take your software with you... if that's the case, they could go appley with their machine and release a new 'host unit' (no need for a new gamepad) that you could upgrade to.

Yeah, regardless of how little you may need to access settings, every single thing takes just that little bit too long that it becomes noticeable. Attempting to show Google Street view to my father in law just crept into thumb twiddling territory, you almost need to start the console and any programs on your gamepad before you switch the main TV on.

WELL THAT MAKES IT OK THEN!

;)

Seriously though, rgraves, it's stuff like this why I made that joke about why you should be reviewing Lego City Undercover for Edge the other day. There literally isn't any criticism somebody could have regarding Nintendo without you clumsily defending it for some obscure reason.

Nap, now who is selectively quoting? I acknowledged in my post that it was slow - I think I actually said *really* slow. I wasn't defending it, I was just pointing out that it wasn't indicative of the rest of the OS which has seen a boost since the last update. I was also just pointing out that it's not exactly a large issue since the settings menu is perhaps (behind that daft H&S one) the least used one of the whole lot.

There is a lot wrong with the Wii U - do I think a 15-20 second wait to get into the seldom-used 'settings' menu is really one of them, no I don't.

In all honesty Nap your constant attempts to find something to snipe on are getting tiresome - you're way worse than your other popular victim Scott because he at least is positive - all you seem to do is coast through Wii U threads looking for something or somebody to pick up on and criticise. The minute anyone is not comparing Nintendo to the anti-christ in every possible single way they are labelled an 'apologist' or a 'fanboy'.

Naps and me are like THAT though. TOIGHT.

We both share a love of meat.
