Nintendo Wii U

Isn't all the VC stuff handled by M2? If that is true, you can't expect a small team out of Tokyo to handcraft literally hundreds of bespoke emulators overnight, as isn't that supposedly what they did for the Wii versions of VC releases?

Though according to their Wiki entry, they didn't even do the VC releases for any Nintendo systems anyway, so somebody else will have to be praised/blamed for the quality of those releases:

Virtual Console - Mega Drive, Master System, MSX, Arcade (Sega and Namco)

Your avatar is outstanding; you clearly have taste, sir.

:hat:

And here you go, F-Zero on the Wii U working straight away with the Classic Controller:

As long as you have the Wiimote synched up, just turn it on, plug in the controller and load up the game :)

Although that is good, the benefit of having it on the gamepad seems a bit negated by then playing it using the classic controller - you might as well just play it on the big telly.

Also, if only one team is doing all of the VC, that is a perfect example from the complaints in that other thread - cheapskates. Farm it out to whoever (some of those studios that closed last year would have probably been happy to stay afloat for longer and do VC conversions) to make sure that the VC has a proper back catalogue and your early adopters will at least have somethign to play in this time of drought.

There is almost no need apart from a bizarre concept of them being 'lost' if there are loads on the VC. Which I still think is balls in regards to the notifications / news feeds and 'ads' that they have in the eshop that could be used to promote a different VC title every week, even though they've been on there for ages. Something which Nintendo already have form for in regards to their 'normal' advertising, I saw a TV ad for New Super Mario Bros 2 on the 3DS yesterday, which isn't even new.

Oh I do play on the Gamepad, the missus is playing Ninokuni on the telly and it was just easier to video like that. It looks like you're free to use any control system you like, though - Gamepad, Pro Controller, Wiimote, Classic Controller... I wonder if you could use the Wiimote and nunchuck as well? Overkill for a SNES game but heh.

Pretty sure you can send the pad by itself (I only sent the console for my repair) but it'll have to be to Nintendo. If the home button is as you've described, I'm sure you can talk them around for a repair...say the button always felt that way but worked previously; after all, how would you know what it's 'supposed' to feel like? The fact that there's no noticeable cosmetic damage can only help your cause.

I had a problem with my Gamepad (self inflicted - rage brought on by Sonic Racing!!) and emailed Nintendo describing the problem and attaching an a photo of the Gamepads' screen clearly highlighting the problem. This was a waste of time as 3 days later I had an automated response telling me to phone them, so don't bother emailing them!

After phoning Nintendo. they sent me a freepost label within a couple of days and I sent JUST the Gamepad off, along with a printout of my Shopto receipt. They phoned me a few days later to say they'll be repairing it for free as its under warranty. The whole process took 2 weeks.

Awesome. I've been busy this week, but I'll give them a call on Monday. Cheers guys.

I hope they sell some kind of signal repeater...

I actually think I might prefer playing on the gamepad. You appreciate the graphics and detail when it's about 3" from your face. Batman looks awesome on it.

MiiVerse with Monster Hunter is going to work really well isn't it?

I managed to kill the easy beast in MH.

Still felt a bit frantic. Lots of turning running, turning running etc as the beast charged around. Wasn't able to get much of a rhythm going. Will try the underwater one later. Hopefully I will be convinced that I need it in my life.

Why the fuck can't you just tap the screen to select different inventory items? Would be a lot quicker.

I find the GamePad is better when the screen is less busy. NSMBU was brilliant on the GamePad but Trine 2 and Sonic All-Stars felt like there was too much going on and the details that are important to you got lost easily.

You can.

But, like with pressing Y to use items, you have to have your weapon sheathed at the time.

Right, so I might buy a Wii U.

I've always had it in my head that the Zombie U pack is the best - but is it? I sold all my original Wii stuff a while ago, so I don't have any Wiimotes or the sensor bar or anything, so which bundle would you recommend?

Are people using their Pro Controller much? What else do you get in the Zombie U pack? A cradle? Anything else? Do the extras make it worth it?

I'm also quite tempted by Monster Hunter, so would you recommend I hold on for that instead? Will that bundle be the same as the Zombie U pack except with MH instead of Zombie U?

Game wise I do want Zombie U, but I'd also like to play NintendoLand and NSMBU.

Should I decide to get a Wii U today - what bundle should I go for?

(sorry for all the questions)

The NintendoLand bundle with ZombiU separately is what I got at launch and I've not regretted that option.

I don't have a Pro Controller and don't really see a need for it for me. The GamePad has the same amount of buttons with the added bonus of a nice touchscreen and I rarely play games for longer than the ~4 hour battery life in one go.

Any of the packs with a game come with a cradle and popping it in there whenever I'm not using it has led to a pretty stress-free time. And they also include the Premium Network thing that gives you "cashback" on eShop purchases. It's a nice little thing.

The best bundle is the cheapest one! I got mine for £200 and felt that price was fairly spot-on.

You'll want to get at least one Wiimote and Nunchuk if you're planning on playing local multiplayer though. The Pro Controller is not always supported by games but the GamePad and Wiimote are.

I haven't got a Pro Controller and haven't needed it. The Gamepad is really comfortable to use and of course you get the bonus of a touchpad/separate screen, depending on the game you're playing.

Premium bundles all contain the following:

  • sensor bar
  • HDMI cable
  • Gamepad stand
  • Gamepad charging cradle
  • % of your eShop purchases returned back to you that you can redeem for vouchers

The standard premium bundle comes with Nintendo Land on disc. Zombi U and Monster Hunter bundles won't have it but will have the respective games and a Pro Controller.

They're all black and all have 32Gb of disk space.

How badly do you want to play Nintendo Land? Bear in mind that it really shines in multiplayer. If that's what you're after and you're not arsed about a second controller, a Premium bundle plus the separate games would probably be up your street. Lack of Wiimotes is probably a bigger issue, Nintendo Land and NSMBU lets you play multiplayer with them and you can still control the menus with them if that's your thing.

Right, sounds like the best option is probably just to get the Premium bundle with Nintendo Land and pick up additional games separately along with another Wiimote.

Will it be worth getting a nunchuk as well? Do any of the Nintendo Land multiplayer games use the nunchuck?

Cool. So the only difference between the Premium Pack and the Zombie U Premium Pack is the addition of Zombie U and the Pro Controller?

Exactly. No NintendoLand but ZombiU and the Pro Controller.

3 of the NintendoLand multiplayer games need a nunchuk and WiiMotion+. 3 need the Wiimote only. 6 are single-player.

Just Metroid, I think.
