Monster Hunter 3 demo is great. Well, graphically great. And it plays at least as well as the Wii version... but...

Why the hell didn't they sort the controls? Especially the item use ones. Have all the items on the touch screen and just touch them to select. Madness! It's just as, or even *more* fiddly than before.

Also, wasn't there a run button before? There doesn't seem to be one now.

If you press L and then use Y or A it scrolls through the items.

Anyway I found the demo okay but basically the game boils down to just Boss battles. Now if it was open world then it would be much more enjoyable. I can imagine it being fun with other people on your team though.

Yeah, same as the Wii version, and really clumsy when there's no need for it.

It isn't just boss battles though - there are smaller things to kill, things to "harvest" and so on first. You have to tool up for a hunt.

I really don't understand the need to drip feed the Virtual Console games again.

It feels more of a case they launched the console 6 months too early and everything else is being somewhat fudged in quickly to accomodate. Mind you the releases on the 3DS VC are slow to non existant too.

Played some F-Zero "for five minutes" and, err, turned into an hour. Forgotten how hypnotic the game becomes, although that might be subjective as I have a nostalgic attachment to the game.

Only prob with the VC for F-Zero is that the tea-tray and Pro controller don't feel as wonderfully comfortable as the classic Super Famicom pad, IMO.

You do get sucked in; F Zero, as with all classic racing titles, has those 'in the zone' moments, and it's wonderfully fulfilling to make judicious use of the shoulder buttons and not hit the sides in one of the more 'curvier' tracks.

I also forgot how special the music was; sublime.

The demo is impenetrable for someone who hasn't played MH before.

If you have though - it makes you want MH3 SO BAD!

My daughter (who is 4) has never played MH before and enjoyed playing the demo.

Just played the MH3 demo.

Horrifically shit. I've never plated a MH game before and was expecting Phantasy Star Online, instead I got an uncontrollable, ugly, sub Wii mess. I'm in shock at how bad it is.

Sub Wii?

For a HD update of a Wii game?

Explain.

It's weird, as they could make a mint out of it now I reckon. Now that there aren't that many games released, they should just fill up the eShop / VC to the brim with games, run promotions, maybe have sales every once in a while and people will keep coming back and buying and playing them. I think Sony did this right with the Vita, in times of software drought there's always some classic PSP or PS1 titles to pick up and it keeps people playing instead of leaving the machine in a corner to collect dust.

Having said that - I do agree though.

This is also the last chance Nintendo have to sell these games I reckon.

What I'd like to see is a Nintendo Network premium account. Pay X a year/month and access to all you can eat Virtual console stuff would be awesome.

The gameplay mechanics of FZero have barely aged. I'd only ever played the GBA version of the SNES style FZero so this is a bit of a treat for 30p.

It didn't help sales of the vita though...

So if we agree that either way it doesn't really help hardware sales you may as well maximise the software sales which really means having them available now for people to buy. Early adopters are always the hardcore fans who are the ones who would lap up that shit. Again. If they are worried about shooting their load now then have sales and spotlight on specific software going forward. Plus by dumping all the VC stuff now you won't overshadow Wii Ware stuff that will come out in the future by coming out on the same day as Mario World or Mario 64 etc.
