Nintendo Wii U

Jesus H Christ how can Nintendo have a policy like this in 2013?

For me that's by far the worst thing about the machine at present.. and why I'm totally reluctant to buy any full price titles digitally.

Already sunk about £20 into DL only games and that's feeling too much

Noob got his pad replaced free and quickly by Nintendo...

they don't. He just needs a new pad.

Well, it's more an issue with the pad being unavailable outside of Nintendo; as a result, your only option os to return everything to the retailer, but if you want to keep your purchases etc, you can't because all content / accounts are firmly locked to the console and untouchable by anyone who is not a Nintendo employee.

Is everything not linked to my Network ID? Why do I have a username and password for it then?

Thats what I cant understand either.. all other companies seem to be able to manage digital content without locking it down to this extent.. so whats so different with WiiU?

The account might be your hub, but at present all purchases etc are also locked to the console on which they were purchased. So, for that matter, is the account itself. You won't be able to log in on another Wii U unless Nintendo have transferred you.

To be fair, Microsoft require that you own a transfer kit, which can be used once per year. Sony are the only ones with a proper system.

FFS, I was afraid of that. I was just hoping to send the gamepad off and not the whole machine. Looks like I'll have to contact Nintendo directly instead and probably pay the extortionate price for a repair or replacement. Awesome.

I had a problem with my Gamepad (self inflicted - rage brought on by Sonic Racing!!) and emailed Nintendo describing the problem and attaching an a photo of the Gamepads' screen clearly highlighting the problem. This was a waste of time as 3 days later I had an automated response telling me to phone them, so don't bother emailing them!

After phoning Nintendo. they sent me a freepost label within a couple of days and I sent JUST the Gamepad off, along with a printout of my Shopto receipt. They phoned me a few days later to say they'll be repairing it for free as its under warranty. The whole process took 2 weeks.

My wara wara has been like that for over a month. Not showing any sign of changing...some people have suggested creating a whole new profile, backup the saves and delete the whole profile. This MIGHT work.

Does annoy me as I found watching the gaming posts pop up really fun.

What is wara wara?

When you switch on the machine the image on the tv is a plaza full of Wiis swarmed round the corresponding game they're posting about and playing...it was wonderful watching all these illustrations and posts from people around the world posting about where they are in the game, beating difficult parts...you could mooch around and tap on the Miis too.

Now I get to see the default icons explaining to me how to use my WiiU... :(
