Nintendo Wii U

cool - so you'll get the WiiU when those games are out then?

When its 199 for the Black one, preferably matte too, and we have Mario Kart (and it's good), and Metroid yeah i would do that. I'll buy systems for 1 or 2 games, ive done it before (jaguar - doom, dreamcast - HOTD 2 etc)

That's like David Cameron saying he has lots of black friends.

It also features better lighting, better draw distance as well Also the night system is apparently the best one they have done. It's hardly small beans and it's not just down to having more ram.

Im going off the machine teardowns on EG and GAF...it seems like equivalent processing with more ram, so if thats what theyre doing with it (criterion)..great.

And a better GPU that does lots of stuff that would previously needed CPU grunt

Not sure it's exactly that, I think it's that the GPU has certain 'fixed functions', which mean the GPU itself can run slower, with less shaders, blah-blah-blah.

Anyway, I for one think the use of high res textures and assets really does make a difference, outside of just pushing polygons, which is why people who 'get' the machine like Nintendo will still have visually impressive stuff even compared to the competition.

Really excited to see the first wave of PS4 games next week though.

I hope it sells well to but doubt it will. Surely anyone interested in the title would have already picked it up on the other consoles. Plus when it comes out it'll be either £40 for the WiiU version or £20 for the other versions.

This isn't a dig at the Wii U, more at third parties who may blame the low sales of such a game on the Wii U when it's released half a year late and is more expensive than the version already available I loved the game but, even if I owned a Wii U, I wouldn't be picking it up again.

Exactly, I doubt it will too. Which is why I say Nintendo needs to put it's weight behind it too, They need to go that extra mile given the situation they're facing.

The NFS video looks great and it's good to hear that it's a technically refined port but the 'father and son' multiplayer mode seems pretty lackluster. I guess they didn't have the time to implement something like a pursuit mode using the pad as well as the tv or a more in depth director mode which could enable one player to truly help or hinder the main player (add cops, traps etc). Seems that would be par for the course.

I'm disappointed we haven't seen enhanced wii-mote technology personally. In that respect this console is more like a GameCube 2 than a Wii 2 (gba -gcn link successor ?). I'm pretty much sold on the motion plus for stuff like pointing (great to see that BLOPS has that control scheme), tennis, golf, bowling etc. The table tennis game in WiiSports was awesome and it would be a shame to not see a better version of that. It seems that Kinect and Move 2 may woo all the the old people and kids back!

The NFS video looks OK, but it starts with glitching in the reflections right from the start, cars are invisible in reflections (the buildings behind them are), lights are not reflected either apart from the flashing lights of the police cars and there's quite a bit of pop up. It may be the best version of NFS on the current batch of consoles, but if you said it was running on a 360 or PS3 I would have believed it too with all these shortcuts taken, it doesn't look noticeably better than Forza Horizon or even NFS Hot Pursuit IMO. Presenting this as some kind of proof that the Wii U is truly ahead of the pack is pushing it a bit I reckon.

Criterion are experts at squeezing performance out of hardware so it's interesting they managed to top the PS3/360 so quickly with a small team doing the port.

It's interesting that an adapted port on brand new hardware runs better than the other version running on 6/7 year old hardware?

I think some of you are labouring under the misconception that people around here think the WiiU is equal or inferior to the last gen in power, I think most people are quite clear that it's more powerful than the 360/PS3 to some degree, but it's not clear how much.

Er, if this is still the WiiU thread and not a next gen/ last gen takedown discussion, can anyone help with these? :)

Vaguely recall someone mentioning calibrating their screen display a fair few pages ago - I've noticed what I'm seeing on the gamepad doesn't match what's on the TV screen, TV screen is definitely zoomed slight most noticeable on the WiiU menus etc so it is chopping off some of the image. As I'm going 1080i HDMI it seems to be automatically setting it and doesn't give me any room to adjust. Changing aspect ratios on my TV doesn't help either...any ideas?

And something which has been bothering me - when playing Mario Chase etc on Nintendoland the video feed of the player seems to freeze on the first person who plays with the gamepad and never seems to refresh when playing again, even when changing miis etc. Has anyone else had this problem? Have I hit some setting somewhere?

Any help much appreciated!

EA not including WiiU in gen 4... But I do think its as much, if not more, to do with platforms that enable a business model that they want rather than just raw grunt.

Going by what they've just done with Real Racing on the iPhone and IAPs in Dead Space 3... I'm not entirely looking forward to what they attempt to foist on us.

Looks like as the indie Dev team will start to grow to become the new mid-tier... E.g Nicalis publishing Arcade Racer on the WiiU is a great step.

So rumours stating that Watch Dogs and Rainbow Six Patriots are Wii u bound. That's good.

Less good is Beyond Good and Evil 2 has been axed.

http://n4g.com/news/...r-all-platforms

We already revealed in advance of the previous Nintendo Direct that the Monolith Soft game would be revealed as well as the Wii U VC. The same source is now telling us that while they won't show up in the Nintendo Direct, Watch Dogs and Rainbow 6 are in fact coming to Wii U. Although, a multi-platform release of Beyond Good & Evil 2 has been axed after disappointing sales of Wii U in Europe and the steep price point of one of the upcoming consoles was revealed to Ubisoft.

Also that bit about the steep price of one of the new consoles is worrying too.
