Nintendo Wii U

I remain to be convinced the gap this gen is going to be as astronomical as it was before, HD was such a jump. Is a next Gen Ni No Kuni going to look like a leap? Even for realistic graphics stuff there are games that are still going to stand up. Heavy Rain for instance.

There'll be a jump, it'll be noticeable. Some new things will be possible. But will Zelda or Metroid or Fzero HD look as far behind as the Wii versions compared to this gen? Don't see it.

Iwata will claim otherwise, but there is a price cut pre Orbis coming.

7 years advancement? its gona a fucking humungous jump. Think comparing Crysis on 360 to a top end PC.

It's a jump... But not in the same league as previous.

The EAs are foamy over next gen partly because they will be able to keep their prices high for longer and prevent used games. Be careful what gaming future you wish for.

Nintendo should get Spotify on the WiiU. It'll NEVER appear on a Sony or MS console and it would be a great feature.

Nintendo should also make a big deal of TVii. A single source allowing you to search and discover across all your services.

That's what they said last time. And probably the time before. I'm confident that the increased amount of CPU power and RAM, combined with much more capable graphic systems will make for some unbelievable stuff once the developers get to grips with it. In the early days it'll probably just be tarted up current gen stuff, but I'm sure in a few years we'll look back and see that huge leaps have been made. And because the baseline moves up, hopefully this will also echo through on the PC where developers will be less held back because their games will no longer have to fit in ancient systems.

I think it's going to be more of a happy medium, it's not going to be a huge jump but right now teams have hit a ceiling that'll be removed with the next gen and it'll allow for more creativity in design. So improvements will be incremental but at a rate that won't have to worry those who crave more shiny.

Smitty is 100% not right about the DC, its all based on anecdotal evidence..."felt like" a stop gap. A victim of the infamous Gary Penn quote most likely. The Dreamcast was fucking awesome. Sega just couldnt market for shit.

I don't know who Gary Penn is or what he said. This was my experience of that period, Angel.

I'd argue the Dreamcast wasn't awesome, personally. I was moved by the games on it, except Soul Calibur which I loved.

The Dreamcast was capable enough but in the perception of people at the time it was a stop-gap. Everybody was hyped for the PS2 and thought little more of the Dreamcast at the time than some tide-over console between two 'proper' generations.

This all that matters.

You speak for everyone at the time? So on that timing..was the 360 a stop gap for the PS3?

Do you forget that the PS was more popular than the Sega Saturn?

Shit what excites me more, the successor to the PS or the successor to the SS? Hmmm....tough one.

And it's obvious to see which one excited other gamers more as well.

I remember people feeling that the DC was a compromised platform, like the Sega Saturn was, and that it was better to wait for the PS2.

Where's your 'I hate media boxes' script, Scottcr?

Except it doesn't work like that - The Mega Drive was a hit but by and large people were more excited about the Playstation than the Saturn. Same with the SNES -> N64.

The marketing didn't match the hype but by then it was too late because the Dreamcast bowed out and everyone got a PS2, which became a self fulfilling prophecy. Sony's luck ran out with the PS3 and it's only just recently managed to shrug off the lunacy of that launch.

Memories dont make the Dreamcast a less capable machine, factually, it's a really slick bit of hardware that only lost out due to Sonys marketing muscle and Segas incompetence. All the "feelings" in the world you might have had doesnt make what you think a fact.

All the "feelings" in the world you might have had doesnt make it a fact.

But my ''feelings'' affected my purchasing decisions. Sitting down with a Dreamcast in front of me, I simply wasn't that impressed with what was available.

And I'd heard the rumblings and worried about future support.

Anyway, it's fun collecting Dreamcast fanboy tears. They're so delicious.

You're one person. How old were you at the time, too? You over estimate your influence on anything. Oh and fanboy tears? Embarrassing, grow up. So much for your apology in OT. Youve been derailing threads with nonsense just as much since then...what was the point of that exactly?

Listen to the latest Gamelogical. There's a hilarious comparison made between Nintendo and a rehab addict.

''We're clean now, we're doing something new. And then it's all Luigi, Bowser er..new Zelda and old Zelda that's new again!''

''Prelaunch they were all like oh we got third parties on board like you wouldn't believe. We have the number one hardcore game franchise in the world - Call of Duty! Everybody's comin! And then, six maybe eight weeks now without a major game release.''

Add has been pointed out, a barren post launch period is hardly anything new or specific to the Wii U.

They should Scott but you know they won't. This is the problem with Nintendo over the years. The decision makers have been at best incompetent and at worse comical.

I haven't said anything about my 'influence' on anything. Are you reading someone else's posts?

I'm just saying that was my experience and it seems the experience of other people too, going by the buzz at the time and what happened in the end.

Oh and fanboy tears? Embarrassing, grow up.

Just joshing.

You're the one being aggressive here, Angel. I was just relating my memories of that period. You're the one calling people 'mental', 'victims' of hype and so on.

Meh, you can't discuss anything, come into a thread, drop your absurd opinion...bluster...leave. The Smitty cycle.

Wow, it's the 'Smitty cycle' being wheeled out.

What absurd opinion do I hold? I just gave my recollections of the period.

What's 'bluster' here? Is that you snipping out 'discussion' for some negative word you just grabbed onto?

Leave the Smitty cycle nonsense out of it. Man I am so sick and fucking tired for being targeted because of my name.

I've not done or said anything unreasonable in here. Where's your slagging off of Nap?

We've discussed stuff. I've tried to explain my opinion (as opposed to your ridiculous claim that I 'drop' and 'leave'.

Stop being so lazy and stupid.

Im not, i just dont agree, anecdotal evidence and "how it felt at the time" doesnt really make a valid argument..only an opinion of one man. As for being aggressive, im not the one dropping in guffawing smileys and "fanboy tears". Discuss it properly else whats the point.
