Nintendo Wii U

I wouldn't say I'm disappointed with my Wii U or that I regret buying it when I did, but I am disappointed that every time it seems Nintendo have done something right (WiiVerse) it becomes astonishingly apparent that they've learned fuck all from past experiences.

My Wii U hasn't been turned on in a while because of NiNoKuni and DmC, and I'm not selling it, but aside from LEGO City Undercover what else is there before the end of summer?

I don't think I'll get rid. I have it now, and I love ZombiU and even though Mario Bros U hasn't really changed my mind on the series I'll probably finish it before selling it and there's Bayonetta still to come but the potential of the console is going to languish and just fizzle out if Nintendo don't do something about it.

Well, I'm glad I didn't buy into the launchday hype for a change, it seems I made the right decision. I'll happily wait to see if Nintendo gets their shit together and plunge in when they do, otherwise no big loss. Nintendo's home consoles lost much of their draw over the last 2 gens for me anyway, I much prefer their handheld output these days.

The recent Nintendo Direct shows that there is some great stuff coming. X is guaranteed to be amazing and Wind Waker HD could be wonderful.. I barely played Monster Hunter on the Wii for various reasons but I'll be picking it up on WiiU and 3DS (gotta have that cross save!), Lego looks like the first Lego game I'll buy since Star Wars and Pikmin 3 and Wonderful 101 are shoe ins.

But they need to get their arse in gear pronto.

Anyway - I'm still just at the bit after the nursery in ZombiU, haven't finished BLOPs or Trine2 or Mario or Sonic or Skylanders... ;)

At the risk of becoming a Listy Loo-La, Monster Hunter 3, Wonderful 101, Bayonetta 2 and Lego Undercover are all due this year and then you'll get the first party Nintendo stuff on top of that. I'm almost certain to pick up the next Sony console if it's available this year, but personally, looking at the current release schedules, the Wii U has the most appetising list of confirmed games for 2013.

EDIT: I was including the assumed and unconfirmed first party stuff in that for clarity.

It's here where again Nintendos decision to underpower the wiiu and make it so, shall we say, tricky to develop for, could really come back to bite them. They need devs and they need them quick yet even if they did commit, the architecture of the wiiu make is more time consuming than it could be.

It's the 3ds MkII and Nintendo need to really wheel the boat out this time. To be positive about this though a fucked Nintendo is a brilliant Nintendo. Lets just hope they haven't given themselves too much to do this time.

I must admit i kind of regret my buy, i aint got into mine for sometime now and nothing seems to be very close to pull me back in (rayman was that game). I think id sell it but it was bought as a gift so although i didnt buy it i asked for it as a gift and feel bad that i did.

Frankly there's not a single game amongst those that interests me. The Lego game could have potential, but I'm not holding my breath. And I wouldn't be surprised if it did a Rayman and ended up on other platforms too.

If X or Wind Waker didn't grab you - you have no soul.

let's face it... come E3 we're going to see exactly what Retro and EAD have been up to.

There will be fapping.

Oh - and my tongue was firmly rammed in the cheek there with the Wind Waker comment.

IMO - if they fix a few things, tune up the gameplay to make it smoother and quicker to get around - Wind Waker could be ASS-TOUNDING

I don't really understand how a games enthusiast can watch footage of the Wonderful 101 and not have their dick turn itself inside-out and explode. It looks pure game.

I have watched the footage, I see some multi coloured things running around an environment so busy I cant see what is going on or what the objective is beyond HIT BIG THING HARD.

If someone could explain what it is to me that I am seeing then I might get excited about it.

Oh and slight delay in response as I just went and doublechecked youtube again for the E3 thing and the latest trailer and yep it still looks like running a bunch of characters around hitting a big monster in an explosion of primary colours and I still dont understand it at all.

The sword is made out of heroes? I mean unless it is the most intuitive thing in universe then I just dont get it :)

it looks like a combination of Viewtiful Joe and Pikmin

No, I like cell shading. It's just that most games that use it don't appeal to me. Ni no kuni for example looks lovely, and I'm a big Ghibli fan. But then it's a JRPG with 'battle systems' and all that crap, so well, no thanks.

Exactly, and I didn't like either of them :)

I hope you're right Scott. But would you bet your house on that happening? Lets face it last year we all thought Nintendo would clean up E3. It was there for the taking and they utterly dissappointed everyone. Everything points to Nintendo HAVING to have a big show. Will they though..?

As the 3DS, Wii U and Vita have all had pretty poor starts does it point to a wider issue that the market, outside of the hardcore, just doesnt want/need any new machines at this point?

Its going to be interesting to see what happens once MS/Sony launch.

Nap, I know this is an open forum and you can post what you want, where you want, but I'm not sure what you're trying to achieve in this thread. We know that you don't really like the Wii and you're holding off on the Wii U waiting for something you feel is worth playing, and that's fine. But I don't understand why you need to keep posting what is essentially the same old thing over and over again in here.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to be a thread nazi but I can't see exactly what

Wonderful 101 looks like the stuff that people who dryhump toddler sized pillows with female manga characters on them play.
is adding to any kind of debate.

I don't get it.

I think people are getting their casual gaming kicks from their iPhones, Galaxy S3s, iPads, and Nexus 7s. Tablets in particular were incredibly popular at Christmas. The Wii/360/PS3 leves of sales are history, imho.

I think it's a given we'll see what both EAD and Retro have been doing. I'd bet on them showing Mario Galaxy follow up, Mario Kart, Smash Bros, Metroid, Wind Waker HD, FZero, 1080 and *maybe* WaveRace... oh... and X.

I don't think we'll see a Zelda other than Wind Waker... and whatever the next big 3DS one is. That'll be next years E3 'fuckye'
