Nintendo Wii U

So IGN are teasing that they will have some interesting news about Wii U that will come out tomorrow. I hate when they do that. :hmm:

Trolling for hits I bet. It will be the fact that Nintendo will show some games at E3 or something else revolutionary and the result of cutting edge journalism.

I got a Wii U! £239 for the premium in Grainger Games this week.

Waited over an hour for it to update on my 60Mb connection. Then discovered somebody else managed to get my username. Then waited 5 minutes for Zombi U to update. Then I went to buy New Super Mario Bros U off the store for £39.99... and I think you can probably guess how that ended.

Really like it though. The gamepad is brilliant. I want to play everything on it!

Add me... PaulandoUK (:()

I joined the club this week as well. I'd decided to hold off until some of the recent game announcements were actually available to buy, so I feel a bit silly for my premature splooging. My excuse is that I've been in bed ill since Saturday, which coincided beautifully with my week off... I thought I may as well try to spend that time on something I'd enjoy.

But yeah, it's a bit nice isn't it? I'm surprised how well the gamepad works.

I really don't get why everyone is signalling the consoles death an demanding price drops 3 months after launch. Maybe we've just been conditioned by other consoles in the past slashing their prices right after launch to expect the same here.

I do wonder how successful the next Xbox and ps4 are at launch, I can see them not selling out this time for many reasons.

It's a sorry state of affairs. After an enjoyable launch it looks like my Wii U is going to spend the vast majority of 2013 gathering dust while the two rivals pull me back to them before their successors take over.

There's a lot to like about Wii U as a console but there's bugger all reason to turn it on, and I feel a lot more pessimistic than I did as a Dreamcast owner.

The safety net (for me) was supposed to be Black Ops 2 but that tiny Wii U community for the world's biggest game was embarrassing.

It's just nice to have the focus off of Vita for a while! I think when Wii U hits its stride you'll all be happy you've got one.

EDIT: And I'll be happy I waited and get it nice and cheap. :hat:

And so it begins. The much anticipated and pre-hyped 'THIS TIME WE WILL HAVE THIRD PARTY SUPPORT' falling apart within 3 months of the console's launch.

I don't get this. Are the games above not coming out for the Wii U now? Oh, no, they are, so the system is still getting 3rd party support.

That surely says more about your lack of appreciation for certain gametypes rather than whats on the system if your Dreamcast comment is anything to go on. That console had nothing but top drawer pure videogame experiences for it during its relatively meagre lifespan.

First mainstream console i've not (and won't) buy since before the playstation...and i even had a jaguar (purely as a doom playing device). Really suprised at nintendo just being so out of touch. All its gona get from 3rd parties is the end of cycle dross ported across from the 360/ps3.

It's time for the WiiU owners to put on the Vita owners denialism hat.

Sorry, I mean keep it on.

It's a sad state of affairs. Zombie U and Nintendo land are brilliant. The console is well made and the screen controller a triumph. Yet the console has no real hook for the mainstream, is poorly marketed, and clearly never going to replicate the alchemy of the original Wii. I always thought Wii U would fail relative to Nintendo's past consoles, but to see such a trickle of games from nintendo post launch (especially when the Wii was starved of first party games for all of a year) and then to see 3rd parties actively de-release exclusives... this console could be over very quickly indeed.

They shoulda kept the controller the same, maybe build in motion plus or more refined tracking. Made the box more powerful with built in Wii upscaling to HD, a 200gb hdd, optical audio port, made it black by detault, called it something along the lines of wii 2...anything to make it not sound like an add on. Launched with a proper 3d new mario and had mario kart out by xmas alongside it. Proper account control with profile migraton and allow your virtual console stuff to be transferred seamlessly.

That woulda been fucking awesome...the whole forum woulda bought one in excitement....swapping friend tags like the Mario Kart Wii days when it was exciting. Its only when you think what it coulda been does what it actually is get a bit depressing.

The Vita will outlast the Wii U....its got another 5 years in it.....I can see nintendo dropping this within 4.

This is seriously stupid. The Wii U hasn't even had its first E3 or Christmas after release yet. The Vita has already slumped into the GameCube position of being amazing if the niche games that are being released appeal to you or a complete waste of time if they don't. And I bought both on launch day before someone hypocritically screams fanboy.

You must have your head firmly buried in the sand if you believe that big name games prominently announced as system exclusives being delayed in favour of releasing on other platforms isn't anything but a bad sign. It means a brand new system is already playing second fiddle to the old hats, and it'll probably dry up completely by the time the next generation of hardware comes round.

If your biz model revolves around 'buy our console to play our games' then the simple fact is that you need lots of your games to be coming out...

Nintendo have great ideas with the WiiU. Sounds like their approach to indie development is changing radically as well and MiiVerse is a great thing... They need to haul ass though.

They did it with the 3DS and have the cash to see it through... It'll be interesting to see what they do though.

I also wonder how much 'the old guard' in Nintendo hold things back. Designing a system around the size of living rooms or power consumption might work in Japan, but no one cares about that stuff in the west.
