Nintendo Wii U

What do you actually prefer about component? I mean... it's just inferior, generally.

I can't remember. This was approximately four years ago. I'm so bored with this conversation.

What the Wii-U needs is a good Kororinpa game.

Technically Donkey Kong's Crash Course is in the same vein, albeit in 2D.

A nitpick here, but the Wii U does upscale Wii games. What people want is the Wii U to render games at 1080p like the Dolphin emulator does.

If we are being nitpicky, what they really want is the image to be processed and tarted up, modern TVs do an awful lot of that sort of thing in the background to make images look better.

Merely rendering at a higher native resolution won't give you a Dolphin makeover, you want to slap on a load of AA and AF too, or use a way better upscale algorithm, like the fancy external scaling boxes which cost $$$.

Fuck off, you pointless exhalation of air.

 That's actually quite brilliant.

Is this the point where I interject and say I ran my Wii on composite and the Wii U looks a million times better in Wii mode? No more Vaseline smeared visuals for me! :)

Why wouldn't it?

What was the last console to have RF as standard? The PS1?

As standard? Because I don't think it was a standard after the N64. But you could still get an RF unit for the Gamecube (I know because I had a really old 14" telly that didn't have anything else).

So...EA look to have nixed Madden for Wii U. They dropped 3DS last year, and Wii / Vita / Wii U this time around. I don't care for the series, but broadly speaking, what could Nintendo possibly do to make this console even slightly desirable for third parties? As far as I'm aware they don't have the draconian licensing structure of the 80s and 90s, yet there's just a complete unwillingness to put much emphasis on their consoles for the most part.

Wii could have had a pretty decent audience (at relatively low development costs) with a bit of effort. Red Steel and a RE4 port did over a million each, but most publishers derived from that the idea that the console should be snubbed instead of given unique or exclusive software.

Not that I give a shit about NFL but the exclusivity deal EA have runs until the end of this year, so really there's space in the market for competition. Are 2K Games still knocking about?

They are indeed. NBA 2Kwhatever is a pretty wonderful series of basketball games. In fact, you've reminded me that I should hunt around for a decent price on NBA 2K13 for Wii U in a fortnight or so...when my very, very dead Wii U gets back to me. :(:)

Is there no Madden becuase of Nintendo not allowing them to use Origin?

Or some other reason?

Well, EA obviously don't give a shit about Wii U. After the announcement of an "unprecedented partnership" was followed by a few bones and a lot of neglect, you might wonder if there's something to the rumours of a spat regarding Wii U's system-wide online service.

I believe FIFA 13 Wii U uses Origin in the same way the other versions do (you have to create a login etc) but EA wanted more, it seems.

The main problem with the Wii U is the lack of power. Consumers may not care, but developers do. The developers working on blockbusters want to work on powerful tech, because they want to show off what they can do and be on the bleeding edge of things. Weaker platforms mainly attract the junior teams or shovelware developers with low budgets hoping for decent returns. But if you have a studio of skilled artists up and running for the next generation of consoles, you're not going to put them to work on old hat stuff.

Like I said before, it's not like EA are the behemoth they used to be; if they give up on the Wii U then there are other developers and publishers who'll gladly take advantage.

That remains to be seen. It's not that loads of developers jumped in the gap EA left on the Dreamcast, GameCube or Wii.

Actually in America, Sega did pretty well plugging the gap EA left behind. It was Europe where they inexplicably dropped the ball, despite advertising heavily in football there wasn't a decent football game on it

As for the Gamecube, it had plenty of EA support, what hurt Nintendo was a lack of competing titles where the PS2 and Xbox dominated, like GTA, Pro Evo (though Japan got this), Gran Turismo, and so on.

And the Wii, well didn't most devs support it, even if it was just something on par with the PS2?

I don't know, I just think EA are only shooting themselves in the foot here. The Wii U won't sell as many as the Wii but if it gets another Christmas alone under its belt, they'd be foolish not to support it.

Whatever, honestly I'm not sticking to one console and I don't really buy too many EA games these days. I'm tired of FIFA always being broken, Sim City's fucked up DRM and DLC put me off buying it and I'm just not too interested in the direction they're taking most of their games.
