Nintendo Wii U

Just had my first WiiU disappointment.. No gamepad support on "The Cave".. totally baffling decision given the style of game and co-op possibilities.

Still looks great from what I've played but it really is a missed opportunity.

Yeah, I don't really understand why not either. There's a quote from Ron Gilbert (on Eurogamer I think) saying that devs didn't really know what to do with the gamepad. Fair enough, it's a bit of an odd thing but surely making it possible to play the full game on it is the easiest option if you haven't got some clever use for it? The character select thing is pretty much pointless.

That's really weird for them to say that, especially as within 2 seconds of co-op play the gamepad became an immediate candidate for the 2nd players screen.. Instead you are forced to play "keep up" with player 1 and makes the whole co-op element pretty much redundant!

Im suspecting a Lazy Port as being the real reason. Genuinely a bit gutted!

I'm assuming that this was basically a bit of a dirty port at the last minute, rather than something planned in anyway, Tim Schafer tweted about how this is Doublefine's first ever game released on a Nintendo machine so it might have just been squeezed in. Shame really as it lends itself to the gamepad sharing in co-op and as a 'carry on on your gamepad' game really quite well. I quite want to play it in bed on the gamepad but no dice.

nice one.

The line up is pretty good too for 30p a touch to own!

Anyone have a list off hand?

January – Balloon Fight (NES)

February – F-Zero (SNES)

March – Punch Out!! Featuring Mr. Dream (NES)

April – Kirby’s Adventure (NES)

May – Super Metroid (SNES)

June – Yoshi / Mario & Yoshi (NES)

July – Donkey Kong (NES)

I was just asking for clarification on Napole0n's point, as in the greater universe it didn't make sense to me, only if you look at a world where devs only have consoles to choose from might it be true.

Where are the next Mojang games being released?, not on a console the last time I looked.

Edit: By sheer coincidence, talking of indie devs, the dev of Gunman Clive just posted this on NeoGAF, PC comes off worse for his game, with Android and 3DS being his best selling platforms, so exceptions to most things do exist.

Well, PC is usually the most accessible platform so it will always be the indie platform of choice. Still, a lot is to be said for the fixed spec of a console, where you know every customer has the same hardware and same controller. I'd rather develop for a fixed environment like a console than PC. The main problem with consoles is that they're so closed off and you get all the licensing shit you don't have with PC. Any steps Nintendo or other manufacturers take to lower the entry barrier is to be applauded.
