Nintendo Wii U

Here's a minor irritation, when I press the home button and I'm in Miiverse/Friend List, if I press the Home button again it takes me back to the home screen. I kind of expect it to take me back to whatever it was I was last in before pressing Home, kinda like the Xbox guide button. Have lost a couple of "masterpieces" by doing that.

Have Microsoft brainwashed me?

edit: @scott and dekay

Except thats not how it works on the Wii. Press Home>open Home menu>press Home again>close Home menu, it doesnt close whatever app you were in and return you to the main menu, like the WiiU. Anyway, its minor, and the Wii didnt have Miiverse etc i suppose.

edit: So it only affects the apps that are launchable from the Home menu.

has anything been announced by the bbc about iplayer? this console so needs it (as well as 4od, ITVplayer. etc)

No but I'd be surprised if it didn't happen, seeing as it was on the Wii.

Also the Youtube app seems a bit shite, prefer using it in browser.

NSMB is exquisite and justifies buying the console for me although finding it pretty tough going...

It's a little odd seeing Mario in sparkling HD.

It gets easier once you get to know the levels a bit. Having said that I've completely failed to open up any of the star road levels even though the first 3 worlds appear 3 starred. Must be missing some secret exits or something.

I'm just happy to get to the end of a level. Secrets are a long way in the future...

I'm totally stuck in the ice world ghost house... And I've found the hidden door as well..

If it's the one I'm thinking of, there are a few hidden doors... which room are you stuck and I'll spoiler it.

You can always do a luigi run, that's the way I found it, I was intrigued as to what it would do. He goes on auto and at any point you can take over and you can redo the level afterwards as well (which I did, as I thought it might not unlock properly or something, so no idea what actually happens if you just continue as luigi)

You have to complete the game too.

Which hidden door?

For those asking about wired LAN adaptors for the Wii U, I picked up a no-name Wii LAN adaptor from Amazon for seven quid and it works perfectly. I plugged it into one of the rear USB ports, told the Wii U I was using a wired connection in the Settings menu and that was it. All working fine now in both Wii U and Wii mode.

It's a simpler way of setting it up if you have any problems with wireless networks, but I did find that things downloaded slower from a wired connection, oddly.

Played more super Mario tonight with my brother and one of our best friends growing up, the two people I played all my SNES Mario with as a kid and we instantly clicked, was like old times. (though we used to take turns due to it being 2 player) Myself and my mate doing well. My brother less so but loving it all the same, as it always was.

Buying a Wii U justified in one evening of gaming!
