Nintendo Wii U

Beware the overly cheap Hong Kong ones, they rarely work properly.

Yeah, i got one very very cheap from Cex - unless i'm being stupid there isn't a way to attach a nunchuk. Doesn't seem to work either, some internal light in it flashes red but the wii u kept telling me to connect a motionplus.

I wish Nintendo released Wiimotes with battery packs. Can anyone recommend a reliable dock and packs?

I don't know why people bother with these. The third party ones are generally not that good and 2 AA batterys last ages. Especially when your mainly using the control pad. I just keep a big box of batteries at all times.

The official ones are just a block with a lock switch at the back, release buttons at the sides and another Nunchuk port at the bottom. I'd take that one back.

Yeah, got two official already, just needed one more for the once in a blue moon 4th player. Cost if sending it back to Cex probably means its not worth it.

It's just easier to leave controllers in a cradle, more consoles should come with charging cradles as standard.

I just use AA rechargeables round house for various consoles and remotes... I have more than i "need" so I always have two fresh to swap into a controller etc.

and I use the "clever" rechargeables that hold charge even when not in use for ages

Following means you can just see their art and stuff in your activity list. But you're not their friend.

If somebody sends an friend request there is no way to follow them instead except for rejecting and adding to follow after.

Xbox live started out with a lower limit didn't it? They probably do it to restrict the database initially.

Had a couple of hard crashes on my console already requiring a powercut at the plug.

One happened trying to access the Wii Shop in Wii mode, and the other happened trying to access the manual while playing the Zelda game in NintendoLand as I couldn't remember how to do something. Both times it just hung on the loading/title card screens...

I noticed a popular Miiverse thread in the NintendoLand community documenting crashes though, so I'm assuming I'm not alone.

I'm sure it's down to the well organized rllmuk list but my friends list is now full. The limit of 100 (I think) seems a bit daft. Now I'm getting friend requests arriving and can't do anything about them.

Yeah, I've started getting selective about who I add now I'm in the sixties. I get a lot of blank ones that I just reject now, where I was just accepting any old requests. Saving my remaining spaces for Mukkers and randoms who can at least be bothered to add a message. It does seem pretty low considering the sense of a community they're clearly trying to foster.

Got the Wii U today, so I might have a look at getting it updated and with a network ID pre-configured for my Son later so that he's ready to go for his birthday.

Once the main ID is set up, can you then create other gaming accounts for use on the system that aren't tied in with a network ID? Similar to the guest accounts on 360 I suppose.

You can set-up a user account and NOT tie it to a network account. So when you start it you can login as you or your son for example but your son would not have a little n on his logo meaning it is not tied to a network ID.

In practice whether its worth doing this is up to you. I pretty much just stay logged in as my account on my machine. My wife and son both have NID linked accounts and are in my friends list but unless they are playing a game on their own they don't use them. The only thing this means is that if posting to Miiverse or posting to high score tables for example it will ALWAYS use the NID that you are logged in with.

Of course you can still use Mii's for other users in games. So on Nintendo land you still select a Mii for each player. They just couldn't all post to high score tables separately if that was a feature of the game.

Pikmin 3 will be more like Pikmin 1 - Miyamoto

Pikmin creator bringing the stress levels back to his strategy game following 'user-friendly' Pikmin 2

Posted by Thomas East on 2nd Jan 2013 at 08:53

Shigeru Miyamoto has told GamesMaster that Pikmin 3 will return to its roots in a strategy game that's more like the original than the second game in the series.

Miyamoto admitted that he didn't entirely agree with the decision to make the game less stressful for the player with Pikmin 2 which dropped the time limits that were placed on the player in the original GameCube title.

Asked if his team had to make some important decisions about the direction of Pikmin before they started development, Miyamoto said: "That's actually something that all the staff members had to debate over when we were discussing what kind of direction we should take for Pikmin 3. First of all by looking at Pikmin 1 we noticed that it wasn't a very easy game for people to play, and from time to time they had to feel some stress.

"Our main aim in Pikmin 2 was to get rid of any stress as much as possible, so that it would be very user-friendly. Well, I myself couldn't agree with that direction perfectly. That kind of nature of Pikmin 1 was exactly what I wanted to reproduce and I was actually intentionally doing so, so that Pikmin 1 could be a strategic game."

Miyamoto said that he wanted to get back to basics with Pikmin 3: "When we started creating Pikmin 3 I gathered the main members who worked on Pikmin 2 and talked about how I thought it was important to get back to the basics of Pikmin 1. Or I should say that half of my job at that time wasn't just to talk, but rather to persuade them to understand what I intended to do and to agree to my idea."

What do you think about the decision to bring Pikmin back to basics? Did you prefer Pikmin or Pikmin 2?

Pikmin 3 is one of ONM's best Wii U games for 2013.
