Nintendo Wii U

Eh? There have been Wii U games on sale since launch, and 3DS eShop sales for months.

Ok mario pyjamas boy I don't count a sale where they say oh trine 2 is a bargain on launch as we are only charging £x. How much is it normally? Umm err we don't know it will go up though, oh yes indeedy! Honest guv!

For the sake of balance I treat similar iOS "sales" on release with the same disdain

I think most of us, when we looked at the launch, thought it was going to be pretty bad. There seemed to be no big game that would revolutionise gaming. There would be a mario 2d game and a collection of poor mini games in nintendo land. ZombieU looked like it might be good but that was pretty much it. We bought it though because maybe in the future those good nintendo games would come out.

Then we got to play it and we begun to realise that we were wrong. That tacked on touch screen and weird controller didn't actually just work well, they worked amazingly well. The screen, which everyone thought would be cheap, turned out to be pretty damn good. Then the idea of playing on both TV and screen or just on the screen began to make perfect sense. The whole idea works brilliantly.

And there was the shear fun of the games. Nintendoland turned out not to be the ugly kid at the party but the shining star. It's just a fantastic game. Mario comes along and turns out to be the best 2D game since Yoshis island. ZombieU surpasses most of our expectations and becomes the poster child for survival horror. Meanwhile black ops2 turns out decent and has a great 2 players system of one on the screen and the other on the pad (It's so good to play that way. Trine 2 and nano assault are also great games. The rayman legends demo also shows that the start of next year could be good stuff (especially if lego city turns out nice).

Last but not least it's the little things that complete the experience. Using the Controller as a TV remote was a truely great idea. So much so that I've banished my TV remote to a draw as it's not longer needed. I hope nintendo expand on the idea some more. Miiverse is a great idea as the place is genuingly nice. It makes you realise just how bitter and jadded most people who post on forums are (that could include me by the way 7 years of EVE online will do that to anyone).

This, alongside the N64, has been my favorite console launch ever.

Well its all a bit reminscent of the Vita really.

Lots of people saying where are the games and bemoaning the launch lineup (mainly united by the common front that they don't actually own one) whilst at the same time the machine has a really good solid launch lineup with more games then its possible to play in the period of time that has elapsed so far.

But at the same time its a tad on the expensive side and the future is a little on the uncertain side (although at least the WiiU has an almost guaranteed selection of 1st party titles that are going to be great).

I've been on mine every night since purchase and yet have barely managed to do much accept make slow progress in Zombie U (which really has to be one of the best launch titles ever) - I've barely grazed Mario and I picked up BLOPS2 and Batman (primarily so I can play on the pad when the missus wants to watch rubbish telly) but they have yet to make it out of the shrink wrap. Sonic should be arriving for Jesus day too.

And despite this I keep eyeing up Nintendoland, even though opportunities for multiplayer in the Dream household are limited to say the least.

So yes um - its a great little machine.

Quite a nice balance writeup on the launch experience in this months Edge too...

FWIW my daughter has Mario pyjamas, not me.

And the Trine 2 and whatever other game it was full prices were both given in the eShop, and it was down as a launch offer.

Just checked eShop as i was confused on full prices. Trine 2 is 10.99 and it does say it is on promotion but i dont see what the full price is or when the promotion ends. Has that info made it onto any sites?

Right: charging the pad. Is there any way to charge it bar the official plug thing? Can you do it via usb?

hmm not that i can see. the psu operates on 4.75volts at 1.6 amps so someone should be able to come up with a usb charge cable.

to be honest i have cradle in corner of room on a table so i stick it on charge when not using it as the battery life is pretty shit. i dont play games for too long at a time but i almost drained it the other night

It said it was £12.99 (I think - that might be the other game) normally. "Latest news" maybe?

nope just checked news it isnt there. i read somewhere online that promotion ends in new year sometime just not the price.

regardless of that i dont think its a "sale" if you start out at low price and later increase it... thats a shabby trick (a tactic used on iOS) alot

My zavvi order arrived using the O2 priority code, Wii U premium with nintendoland and sonic transformed, for £269.

Then got Mario 2nd hand from a kind forum mate for £33, so not a bad deal at all. :omg:

Spent all night blood setting the damn thing up and I cant believe how slow the downloading is, The update to well over an hour and i have a 100meg line.

Left it running to download Rayman and by this morning it was still running. Look like i will have to investigate it a bit more when i get home.

I have added myself to the Wii U nintendo tags

The launch line up is great - I can never decide what to play!!

I can't stress enough how much I love how the music for Mario U uses both the pad and the TV...

Does it really? I thought the music was simply a mirror of the big screen albeit slightly delayed owing to latencies etc.

Nintendoland on the other hand does a great job with mixing musical stems together to good effect.

It seems too... May be wrong though. NintendoLand definitely does it as well as you said. Nice wee touch.

Some precious Nintendards negging my post up there, it was a comment on the fact that I hadn't bought any games not that there aren't any games to buy (which there aren't too many of but still...) x

You know the bit before the brackets is a fair excuse/reason/backpeddle from your previous seemingly sarcastic post :)

Sadly the "nintentards" name calling and the bit in brackets after that kinda negates it and returns you back to having a dig.

Just in case you were wondering why you were being negged :)

I know this clipper my old pal and it was entirely intentional, sometimes the negs get a man down but hey I've got a Wii U arriving today so I'll not get too upset about it all.

I know what you mean. I feel like an interloper in this thread as well, I dont own any Nintendo plushies and I havent shown a nintendo product to a relative, neighbour or casual acquaintance.

You have to tread carefully else the rabid hordes will descend (well 3 ish of them anyway).

i feel like a hobbit entering Mordor...

Here's something I stumbled on last night which is awesome. If you don't have kids, you probably won't agree, but anyway...

I went into the Skylanders Giants community in Miiverse. It is FULL of little kids drawing pictures of their favourite Skylanders. I was blown away. These kids have an instant audience of tens of thousands of other kids also drawing pictures of their favourite Skylanders. Some kids who probably can't read and write yet, and they're still sharing these pictures.

Going to let my daughter have a go tonight.

I played Nintendoland last night in 4 player and it was the most excellent and hilarious time. Especially those games which show the gamepad player's big daft face on screen so you can play the meta-game of insulting them as a distraction. I loved Mario Chase the most; I just wished the replay showed a big, dramatic slow mo dive for the finish as well as the excellent sped-up map.

Also, it wasn't quite as brilliant as Hidden In Plain Sight.
