Nintendo Wii U

It's still bollocks. XBL and PSN throttle their speeds, which I'd put down to the way the OS's had been designed, but what's the point of having high speed broad band and being fucked by the 'limitations' of the console?

It isnt limitations of the console its nintendo servers being shit.

Shiggers in the latest GamesMaster:

“I think it is very likely. I cannot tell specifically what ideas I used to have at the time which might be realized this time around. But as you might recall, at one of the E3 shows several years ago we showcased a game of Pac-Man Versus, which was a really interesting game. Unfortunately however it was rather hard for everyone to own four GBAs at the same time. (You don't say!)

“But at that time still it was not very easy or accepted. [Now, with Wii U], it’s not just creators outside the company are finding fascinating possibilities to be able to realize a game dream come true.”

Pac-Man Vs only needed one GBA. Fuck sake, Shigeru, get your facts straight.

He has lost the plot!

If they don't release Pacman Vs WiiU style I'm going to go bananas. It's part of the reason I got the machine. That's right, for a game that doesn't even exist.

So I'm a bit hungover today and I bought one of these by accident. I've finally finished updating the thing (good thing I was prepared for the long wait!) and now I'm updating the games so I can get the sitting-around-waiting bit all out of the way at once.

I've popped myself on the NNID list but please add me! I don't have a single friend yet. My ID is the same as my username. See you on Miiverse :)

Played more Nintendo Land today.

Didn't really get the Pikmin one, seemed very shallow, but loved the Metroid one. Co-op with one in air, one on ground, was fantastic fun. Had a huge Jet Force Gemini vibe about it. Be a wonderful way to update the Star Fox franchise (ironically) - have Jet Force Gemini style planetary missions alternate with Arwing dogfights between the planets, and spaceship boarding mega-battles that mixed the two.

Having properly watched/read up on Rayman Origins and Legends now, have to say, it's bloody beautiful and it seems to do everything I would have wanted from a Rayman after so many years of absense. The artists have drawn truly amazing (and yet, so Rayman) stuff in these games.

Will get Origins on Vita when I can.

Secretly hope these titles would outsell Mario (won't happen) and that we get a resurgence of 'known character' 2D platforming that isn't just Mario in general (won't happen outside of Indie). While you can argue Rayman isn't doing that much new either (though it only had 1 other 2D platformer before Origins), it certainly deserves an A for effort from every level.

Giana Sisters: Twisted Dreams on a similar note, on Steam.

Rayman Legends might just be the first title for me to own a Wii U for so far.

How do retailers go about setting a price? Do they get together and decide? It seems strange they all arrived at pretty much the same price even though this offer suggests there was at least £25 to play with. One wonders if Amazon's original incorrect price for the basic, £199, was the mark up they'd normally put on a console and only upped it after talking to others.

There will be a certain amount of brinksmanship watching other retailers and seeing what price they have.

But basically there is price they buy them for they add on profit margin and then set price accordingly.

At that point check other retailers and adjust price/profit margin. Then watch stock levels , if too high then look to reduce price regardless of competition.

If the manufacturer sets an RRP it is easier but still not super easy.

Having put some hours into the WiiU this week I can happily say that this is utterly brilliant.

We have a lot of people over to our place so there are plentiful opportunities to play local multiplayer. 5 player Mii Chase and Luigis mansion minigames are just amazing. So much shouting, teamwork, coordination (or lack of). It really is magnificent fun. And the camera showing the person's face who is holding the gamepad. Brilliant.

Even the nintendolands competition is fantastic, being able to vote on who you think will win on the one on one challenges and picking the weaker opponents to score some easy points. Great.

NSMBu looks spectacular on both the screen and the big screen plasma. Glorious. At one point the lads wanted to play Fifa so i switched it off the big tv and onto the pad. It brought a smile to all our faces. It just works.

Unlocked some new courses for one of the minigames on nintendo land. That was pleasing.

ZombieU, utterly terrifying. Played with 4 lads and the lights out, the amount of screams that were heard from the other room was testament to just how scary this game is. It also plays just brilliantly, I love the design, the lighting and generally just how the game plays. I can't wait to get stuck into it in the new year.

Oh and that Rayman demo? The most beautiful game i've ever seen. Looks like an interactive pixar movie. Could be a top contender for game of the year 2013.

I give this console 10 double Os out of 7. Well done ninty.

I think most of us, when we looked at the launch, thought it was going to be pretty bad. There seemed to be no big game that would revolutionise gaming. There would be a mario 2d game and a collection of poor mini games in nintendo land. ZombieU looked like it might be good but that was pretty much it. We bought it though because maybe in the future those good nintendo games would come out.

Then we got to play it and we begun to realise that we were wrong. That tacked on touch screen and weird controller didn't actually just work well, they worked amazingly well. The screen, which everyone thought would be cheap, turned out to be pretty damn good. Then the idea of playing on both TV and screen or just on the screen began to make perfect sense. The whole idea works brilliantly.

And there was the shear fun of the games. Nintendoland turned out not to be the ugly kid at the party but the shining star. It's just a fantastic game. Mario comes along and turns out to be the best 2D game since Yoshis island. ZombieU surpasses most of our expectations and becomes the poster child for survival horror. Meanwhile black ops2 turns out decent and has a great 2 players system of one on the screen and the other on the pad (It's so good to play that way. Trine 2 and nano assault are also great games. The rayman legends demo also shows that the start of next year could be good stuff (especially if lego city turns out nice).

Last but not least it's the little things that complete the experience. Using the Controller as a TV remote was a truely great idea. So much so that I've banished my TV remote to a draw as it's not longer needed. I hope nintendo expand on the idea some more. Miiverse is a great idea as the place is genuingly nice. It makes you realise just how bitter and jadded most people who post on forums are (that could include me by the way 7 years of EVE online will do that to anyone).

This, alongside the N64, has been my favorite console launch ever.
