Ah! So for some reason youtube no longer works on the wiiu browser. You try it and you get no joy. Now this isn't nintendo's fault as it's actually googles. They done goofed but there is a solution and it's NOT the god awful youtube app.

So how do you get youtube working on the browser?

Take a normal address like .http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KVu3gS7iJu4

It won't work.

Unless you change it to the following

Just delete the watch?v= to be /embed/ and it works perfectly.

I think the point I was trying to make (even if nobody else was) is that Nintendo have for some time been first and foremost fitting their new games to their new controller of the moment, whether its a waggle or a stylus or a balance board or touch screen/dual screen or now a tablet. That makes total sense from one point of view in that to Nintendo the new control method is their key differentiator from the competition. But at a fundamental level, rather than concentrating on making a great game full stop, they've been forced to make a great game that uses Nintendo unique control method A.

The second issue with regard to the wii especially was its fantastic success with simple waggle and balance board games which attracted a brand new audience who weren't particularly looking for games that had depth and that continued to astound even 20 hours in - therefore games like Zelda have (I think) been dumbed down to try and suit the masses.

I appreciate that my earlier comparison with Demons Souls can't be taken too seriously but, if you strip out the on-line elements of Demons Souls, what you have is a game with a hub and 5 beautifully crafted levels/dungeons to explore, find stuff, open up short cuts, and, so long as you keep your wits about you, dispatch relatively easily killed respawning enemies (once you figure them out), with of course several big/huge boss fights along the way. Its Zelda like in many many ways..... but without the (well any :)) hand holding and a much reduced quota of bunnies. And it drips atmosphere from every pore in a way that for sure Skyward Sword didn't.

Jump now to the wii u - please Nintendo for the next Zelda show some bottle and do it first and foremost as a great game.

I need to make a special account to give people extra negs evey time they compare Zelda to Souls. They are fundamentally very different games, bar maybe the firs one, and even then Souls shortcuts are just take, shortcuts you don't tenmd to extra abilities. There are bits and pieces for Zelda to learn, but Nintendo have been traking Zelda away from the Souls style for 25 years. Might as well ask From to make a game a bit more Zelda. It has more chance of happening.

Is it a short game?

I really intrigued about the online multi-player well.

Could anyone give a quick synopsis on how works and how good it is?

What? ZombieU doesn't have online multiplayer.

Why does everybody keep asking questions about it? Check the thread out. It's very good.

Bolted-on continuity would be the worst thing to ever happen to zelda and is in general the worst thing to ever happen to anything

Announcing a official timeline was the biggest mistake Nintendo made.

And going further back then OOT. Again, 'officially'.

(though before the official timeline, I liked the idea of Minish Cap possibly being one of/if not the oldest also)

3split timeline from OOT truly slapped every fan in the face, though. No one saw that coming. (aka it was genius!)

Miyamoto always says they think of gameplay mechanics first and then bake some story around it. And to be honest, it shows. Hence any attempts to make sense of a general overlying canon or meta story arc or whatever seems quite futile to me. There is no deeper meaning or clever links between them. They're just wafer thin coathangers to put the games on and add a sense of purpose.

Don't agree they're wafer thin but I do agree that the game should always come before the story, You want a story? Read a book.

What about trying to make something out of both? Some people here act as if story and gameplay are some mysterious opposites on some imaginary scale and are somehow mutually exclusive. Which is of course wrong.

I think they probably are opposites. I think because a story only really develops through cutscenes, devices, objectives etc. You could take out all of the cutscenes in GTA and replace them with a toad saying, "Nico, you gotta save the motherfucking princess," and the game wouldn't suffer.

Really? I can't remember the actual story. Same with Majora's Mask, my favourite game. The moon was crashing in three days, I don't recall why it was happening. A game can have a good story - with cutscenes and whatnot, but that's by just mixing two different things together. Games and stories.
