Nintendo Wii U

Is the 18+ content still viewable as a icon/link on the eshop but not accessible or does it not appear at all. If it is the latter that's even worse as consumers will assume certain games are not purchasable at all. So much for good indie game support.

Not quite as annoying but you cannot buy the Nintendo points cards from the stars catalogue for the Wii mode on WiiU. Their system only allows points cards to be generated if they are linked to a Club Nintendo account and that option has been removed from the Wii shop on WiiU and it doesn't take into account the Club Nintendo account linked to the system.

The account has to be linked to a Club Nintendo account to generate them. If they're still using a Wii it should be fine but using a WiiU in Wii mode doesn't let you link your account so I've got no way of generating a code unless I dig out my old Wii and link it to that.

The whole points, club Nintendo system seems like a clusterfuck of confusion. For example Its not clear whether points are useable on the wii u. I had some points cards but it was not 100% clear whether they were useable on the wii u and even when you redeem the points on your wii u you cannot use these same points on your 3ds.

I actually think this is, in quite a long last, the single daftest thing I've seen the company do.

Basically, what it says to me is that NoE really don't think of life outside of Germany at all. Is it why CoD isn't available on eShop at all?

Well, my faulty Wii U is going back to shopto tomorrow and I've asked for a refund instead of a replacement because of this. It's unbelievably that Nintendo actually think it's acceptable. Idiots, the lot of them.

I admit its stupid that they've not considered this but I don't understand this reaction.

Apart from the train wreck aspects of the launch itself the console is excellent. Is your return decision purely on principle or will it genuingly cause you a problem?

Its annoying but its not a show stopper when you look at what's on offer surely?

Regardless, they still choose to base themselves there for whatever reason, so it's their issue.

They've been based there for ten years. It takes a bit of time to move just so people can be arseraped during waking hours.

Sure, they need to sort it, but its hardly the end of the world.

I agree with that. It IS Nintendos fault. Can't help but think selling up because of it is cutting your hooter off to spite your face though.

To be honest, I was really excited to get my WiiU last week. When it arrived and the hardware didn't work it was a bit of a downer. Adding this onto the top really took the shine off the 'New hardware!!' excitement. And while I'm not bothered about downloading anything at the minute, there will come a point when I want to download something that Nintendo class as restricted. And I'm not hanging around for the hours between 11pm and 3am to do it. So fuck 'em. They lose a sale.

This won't effect just costly retail games but also indie games (indie devs can set their own price could they not), any dlc and could possibly effect whether certain games come to the wii u but we'll have to wait and see.

I get the launch loosing its lustre thing. Its happened to me before so you have my sympathies. I still can't get over my original 360 experience.

I think the biggest thing it shows is the lack of thought and effort that they put into Europe. It shows that they still don't care as much about our market otherwise they would be putting in a lot more effort with the details.

Although problems in the US have shown they can still fuck up in the other regions as well.

Only pegi 18 games.

So?

Ok, lets say Nintendo release Gamecube games as downloadable titles on the WiiU. What about Eternal Darkness, Geist, Resi Remake and Zero? If they came up, we could only download them between 11pm-3am. Ridiculous.

To clear up the confusion:

Nintendo Points = Wii / DS

eShop credit = Wii U / 3DS

You can't share points or credit between systems. If you have a redeemable code, you can only use it on one system. Both the Wii U and 3DS allow you to pay the exact amount for a piece of content using a credit/debit card.

Club Nintendo

You can only use the Club Nintendo Stars Catalogue to buy Nintendo Points. You might be able to earn more stars by doing surveys for the games you've bought. You can check in the "Registered Systems & Games" page.

Nintendo Network Premium

If you have a Premium Wii U, then you'll earn 8 points for every £1 you spend on the eShop. This includes download codes like the Nintendo Land codes that Amazon gave out. When you have 500 points you'll get £5 of eShop credit. You can get your codes at https://p.nintendo.net/

Hope this helps.

Again, probably shouldn't expect it to run perfectly right from the get go. If my wiiu was DOA i'd be very annoyed. But problems with the eshop, which actually don't affect anybody on earth at the moment, they're things that will be smoothed out with time.

Yes except its 8 points for every £1 spent. Not every purchase.

Will this 11pm-3am thing apply to 3DS games as well? Apparently Resi:Mercs is gonna be downloadable soon. While I'm not interested in that game, I can't see why it wouldn't be affected.

Apparently it does but nobody has really noticed.

In which case, they can get back to me then.

It's not the details. The problem is the full games are too expensive. A downloadable title should be cheaper than retail. That's what we should be annoyed about. When I first heard this time restriction I thought it ridiculous but mainly for the nonsensical hours, not the restriction itself. If it were 9pm to 6am it's suddenly not quite so insane. If they'd said, hey, we're a family orientated company, we're not going to put 18+ games on our eshop I think it would have sounded fine. But the way they've done it makes them sound backward and it sounds like a big issue, even though nobody is going to pay a premium to download their adult title. It's the price that's ridiculous and what we should be annoyed about.

The price thing is universal to all 3 companies, though. This isn't.

Ha! I was wondering why nobody was complaining about the price even though it's clearly the main reason hampering downloads. It's because Sony and MS also do it so it must be okay. Instead go mental at Nintendo doing something different, even though, because of the high price common to all three consoles, it won't actually impact on anybody.

When a indie game comes out that we're restricted from buying at certain times then it might be an issue, although I am generally awake at 11pm. Until then it's not a massive deal. Or even a small one.

You're nuts. The time restriction is a completely stupid thing.
