Nintendo Wii U

I'm twitching people. Shopto have the premium with Mario U for £340. I'll get £17 worth of points back from that meaning with my existing points I could get ZombieU for about £20 as well and have them delivered tomorrow. So tempted.

Fuck it. Bought. I was waiting for one of you to talk me out of it, so I'm justifying it by blaming you lot that my imaginary children won't have food on the table this Christmas.

Stupidly excited now.

I keep finding myself hovering over the order button also, but vowed to myself that I wouldn't buy another Nintendo console due to the wii not getting much use, but I still have this need for new gadgets to play with.

I cant really understand why Nintendo release 2 versions of the console..

a bonus at work means that I can pickup one of these bad boys over the weekend. I think a basic unit will do me as I have managed perfectly well with a 4 gig 360. Anyone have a clue what the best high street / supermarket deal is at the moment?

Is it right that the basic unit is £260 on its own?

I'd strongly suggest spending the extra £40 if you can find a premium at £300. For a start, thats the combined price of the basic + the Nintendo Land that is bundled with the premium. You get 4x the storage built in plus a few extra accessories. I don't think you should use the 4gb 360 as a comparison, the Wii U seems more space hungry and although the basic unit has 8gb I heard that it only has 3gb free after the update. You can add more storage by usb but the Wii U seems more fussy over the external storage.

I've overheard misinformation and when asked had to clarify just what the WiiU is myself on several occasions now. I'm not talking about families fitting into the 'casual gamer' category (whatever that may be), I'm talking about people that come into a game shop and regularly buy and trade all sorts of games on a range of systems from retro to new. Just anecdotally there's a strong misconception that it's an optional controller for the Wii. Of course WE all know what it is, but as mentioned many times before rllmuk does not represent the hive mind of the games buying public.

I don't watch TV, so I can't speak for any ambiguous marketing - whether it really is a muddle or whether people aren't getting it through not paying attention. Maybe it'll explode over Christmas, but I can say this: Over the launch weekend the only people that even mentioned the machine were those already aware that it's something they're not particularly interested in. I mean - nobody asked us if we had any with a mind to buying one.

For me a new machine is just a new machine. I have no particular prejudice for or against it aside from wanting a particular game if/when it turns up. I currently have no reason to care that new machines are coming from Sony and Microsoft either. I don't know what would swing me... an unexpected sequel to a cherished favourite, or something truly groundbreaking AND good (not merely interesting). That kind of thing.

Nintendo blocking 18+ rated Wii U eShop content at certain times

Nintendo of Europe blocks access to 18-rated content on the Wii U eShop at certain times of day, system messages suggest.

Users are unable to access trailers for 18-rated Wii U games or buy 18-related content.

The issue first came to light after a NeoGAF user experienced the issue and contacted Nintendo of Italy's customer support.

"Dear customer," a Nintendo representative replied, "we would like to let you know that Nintendo has always aimed to offer gameplay experiences suited to all age groups, observing carefully all the relevant regulations regarding content access that are present in the various European countries.

"We have thus decided to restrict the access to content which is unsuitable to minors (PEGI) to the 11pm - 3am time window."

Nintendo mentioned that they found a lot of kids where happy to play a demo and not shell out the cash for a full game. Obviously if a kid is loving a game demo and the game trial runs out, there is more chance the kid will badger his/her parents for the full thing.

Hell, there where plenty of game demos I was happy to play rather than purchase the full thing back in the 16bit era.

Im absolutely certain you are right and I'm also sure its a shitty thing to do, the opposite of customer focused. At least it helps dispell this nonsense that Nintendo are fun company that love their consumers ;)

the fact that money grubbing likes of MS and Sony won't stoop that low should speak volumes ;)

The online game marketplace that has mandatory trials for all games is by far the most successful out of three console manufacturers offerings.

Nintendo seem to treat any online stuff with same mixture of fear and susupicion as an old-age pensioner attending their first Computers for Seniors class at the local Community Centre.

I've got the premium pack along with NSMBU in the bedroom cupboard. It's taunting me to check it out but it's a gift for my son.

I take it it has some sort of factory reset that I could press if I have a mess about?, no online stuff would be activated by me.

Not sure about factory reset but I would set it up and download the update to save Xmas morning frustration. I dont thinky ou have to register or create a Mii you just have to connect it to internet and let it downlaod the update

Say what you like about their hardware, eshop etc but if there's one thing Nintendo know how to do then it's selling videogames. I don't really think they need to copy less successful companies.

Justification, that's what I like to hear.

I'll probably end up getting another before the years out for myself after playing with this. (I've put off getting one before christmas to give my son the one-upmanship badge for the first time.)

The time restriction is ludicrously insulting and just one more reason I won't buy a Wii U until they sort their shit out.

- Unified Nintendo Network login across all devices

- Login not tied to hardware

- Unified points currency tied to account across all devices

- No absolutely ludicrous content blocks!

- About half the price it is now

- Some truly must-have games

I really want to really want one. I'm sure they'll get most if not all of the stuff I've mentioned sorted out. They have to, surely.

Yeah the downloadable games marketplace on the Wii was a roaring success.

Yeah guys, stop expecting a better user experience, the important thing here is that Nintendo are making money hand over fist.
