Nintendo Wii U

A mario game launched with the console.

Er....yeah.....that's the point Nintendo were making. There have been loads of Mario games recently, so he's resting in 2013 and letting Luigi take charge. I'm getting the impression some people are just trying to turn around everything i post to fit some kind of on-going grudge match.

I thought no new Mario was in the context of the 3DS?

There's blatantly going to be a Luigi's Mansion U but with a camera rather than a hoover. :P

They seemed to be talking about Mario in general, even saying he's resting for a year. They then said "2013 will be the year of Luigi STARTING with Luigi's Mansion 2". So either way......new Luigi game in the works! Sounds like something big to me!

They should have said "Mario needs a vacation". Cue Isle Delfino theme! BOOM!!!!!! SUNSHINE WII U!!!!!!

Fucking hell - a 10 minute update just to play a game? They will need to get this sorted asap or they have a death wish for this thing. Like loading three C64 games. Seriously, seriously shoddy. I'm guessing Zombie U has a similar delight waiting for me? The world doesn't run like this anymore, Nintendo.

Ah Tesco. Lied about launch unit. Phoned on the day, cancelled. Continued to email me. Not cancelled onlibe, so I cancelled again. Home today, Wii U delivered next door, refunded twice.

Unfortunately my morals wouldn't let me keep it. Phoned then to take cash, bring the unit back to store. They didn't even offer me the tenner off voucher they promised people who kept their order. Out money phoning them and running about in the car. Shower of useless idiots, never using them again.

What difference does it make really though? You only have to do it first time. Why so upset?

And in my experience, it's exactly how the world runs. Every time I turn on my 360 or Xbox it seems to update something or other.

Ten minute update for a game? - not on any consoles I own presently. I think it's shit. We disagree, I guess.

Anyway,Nintendoland is bloody fantastic - and the missus approves, too. Loved the player's face appearing

onscreen in Mario chase - another non-essential addition that shows they 'get' fun. I also think they'll be some seriously good-looking games coming from Nintendo if this is anything to go by.

I don't disagree, I just don't get angry about it. For one, you can play the game whilst its downloading, and secondly it took far less than 10 minutes to install any of the updates I've had. Seconds in the case of NSMBU. I just can't get upset by that.

If the new luigi game is unique and not just a Mario game in green wrapping, then I'm all for luigi taking centre stage - I've always preferred him anyway :P

Also luigi's mansion was amazing

I prefer Luigi. Hi Five!

WAS amazing? IS amazing more like! "Waka waka, suka suka".

Thinking about it........surely it would make sense that, if they're doing a new Galaxy style game, they could do a Luigi game that shares the same assets or whatever?

All these people pissing and moaning about a ten minute update... Jesus.. It's ten minutes out of your life, go make a brew, read a mag or something.. End of the world it certainly isn't

Also as a contrast I had the "joy" of backing up and restoring my Vita last night.. Go try that and then you'll see just how easy and painfree the WiiU updates really are.

Thing that is disappointing is the lack of analogue triggers. For those that may have played 360 and wii u versions of sonic all stars racing how do they compare in terms of control?

This is what I was talking about before with people getting excited at the thought of GC Virtual Console titles being played on the new controller. It sounds like you can't due to the lack of analogue shoulder buttons. Plus- I don't even think the classic controller has analogue shoulders (might be wrong), so how are you going to play any GC games, dude? How? How? How?

How on earth are you going to play Rogue Squadrons?!?!? How? How? How?

Or how about Luigi's mansion which has sensitive shoulder buttons for the hoover control? How? How? How?

It does run this way, i dont own one but updates are a great thing, bug fixes, free extras, its free after care for your product...for a ten minute wait.

Nothing wrong with updates really, but it's annoying if they take long. When I switch on my PS3 (which isn't very often), I can be sure to be confronted with a pretty lengthy system update and title updates can be pretty big too, especially with games that have a big multiplayer component. My internet connection is decent enough, but those PS3 updates can still take a long time to download at times. In contrast, on the Xbox 360 it's always very quick and painless - just the yearly dash updates take a bit longer, but they usually add a lot of new functionality too.

I could be wrong but I'm sure the original "classic" Wii controller had the analogue-click triggers just like the GC's. I remember thinking it was odd that you couldn't control GC games with it.

Actually, I'm pretty sure it does too, now I think about it.

"The Classic Controller is plugged into the Wii Remote in order to be used. It features two analog sticks, a D-pad, face buttons labeled "a", "b", "x" and "y", similar to that of a standard SNEScontroller. Digital shoulder buttons labeled "L" and "R", and two digital "Z" buttons (labeled "ZL" and "ZR") are located more closely to the center axis on their respective sides. It also has a set of "–", "Home" and "+" buttons like those on the Wii Remote, with the "–" and "+" buttons additionally labeled "Select" and "Start", respectively."

http://en.wikipedia....ssic_Controller

Same for the Classic Controller Pro, apparently, but they used a different shape/layout for the Z buttons.

I'm pretty sure it doesn't.

Well, my classic controllers are in a rats nest of other controllers in a nondescript cardboard box in a pile of nondescript cardboard boxes in a garage at my mam's so I'm not going argue. ^_^

(I'm sure they did though)

Stealth Edit: that wiki contradicts itself. ANYWAY, it doesn't resolve the problem of how one would play GC games on the WiiU (except for "badly" in my case).

That Wiki article contradicts itself.

Input
  • 2 × analog sticks
  • Digital D-pad
  • 7 × digital face buttons
  • 2 × digital shoulder buttons
  • 2 × analog shoulder buttons
    (digital on Pro)

In early 2009, Nintendo announced the Classic Controller Pro which functions the same as the original Classic Controller with the exception of the shoulder buttons, which are now digital trigger-shaped buttons arranged vertically rather than horizontally
