Nintendo Wii U

OK just installed the Wii U to test it out prior to son boy coming back from school.

Initial thoughts: nice machine, blimey it's long, like the controller, mine rattles too...

HOW LONG was that update install???

Next question: where is the drawing tool? Want to give that a spin but can't find it.

Is that because of the power thing? I'm not on about full USB HDD though, just a USB stick, Surely they can't need much power to operate.

No idea. They just say WARNING WARNING WARNING.

That 'looking around thing' with the Handglider and ducks in the Jpn video can mean only one thing surely?

A sequel to Virtual Boy classic "Schoolgirl Upskirt Adventure"?

it'll be that whole "number of writes to solid state memory shortening life of that drive" thing...

cant think of a single other difference.;

however the curious part of warning is that if it is the "number of writes" thing how come the storage inside the Wii and now WiiU is solid state? Doesnt that mean it has same problems?

Different "grades" of flash - some are more resiliant. Like an SSD is better than a crappy USB doofer.

given cheap as chips cost of USB flash things then I suggest lifespan wont have much impact and you'll just buy another :P

Assuming Nintendo allow you to redownload the stuff you bought(didnt someone on here have a partial failed load they then couldnt redownload?)

What finger do people rest the pad on, i currently rest it on my second finger use the first for the triggers. Its doing my head in trying to figure out if its best on the third which then puts two fingers on each trigger but feels a bit strange.

I rest it proudly on the end of my boaby

Has anyone mentioned this (I don't have a WiiU, so can't check)

Gamecube downloads and potentially playing on the pad...

Does the controller pad have enough buttons? Specifically the Z button? Also, are the shoulder buttons analogue- do they support the old click function (push all the way in and it clicks, which a different button press- pretty neat)- a feature that was used by a few games (rogue leader springs to mind).

I remember Nintendo were sued over that push to click feature (maybe even the analogue nature of the shoulder buttons) and so removed them from the classic controller.

Yes. More than enough - GC has ABXYLRZ, Start, and two sticks. Wii U has ABXYLR, ZL, ZR, +, - and two sticks. And the touch screen, if it came to it.

Yes - ZL and ZR.

No, they're digital (it seems).

No, they don't.

It's got enough buttons, but anything which used the analogue triggers or the click underneath would have to be fudged somehow.

Went to a big Sainsburys and tesco today to check out their selection (I also needed to buy soup. Lots of soup for sicky sprite). Both were disappointing, about three games each (both had mario and nintendoland, the third was batman or zombiu).

I should've just gone to the blockbuster down the road who had loads more variety, and I got Sonic for a very reasonable £35. So, if you have a blockbuster nearby I'd recommend checking them out for games first if like me you Need It Now! and can't be bothered braving Christmas shoppers in town/shopping centres.

What do you do in it?

You have some money, and you buy stuff from catalogs and set them on fire. As they burn they drop more money than they cost and you unlock more stuff to buy as you go. There are also preset combos to figure out, so if you throw a toy pirate and the internet cloud and burn them at the same time you unlock the Online Piracy combo. As you fill out each catalog you get letters from the weatherman and a little girl about the state of the outside world.

Worryingly it was my six year old cousin's favourite of the games I had  I did turn it off before we got to STORY SPOILERS

the girl dying then coming back to tell you "none of the catalog shit matters, BURN YOUR HOUSE DOWN!"
