Nintendo Wii U

Conflicting posts here about needing motion plus for Mario Bros U. Only have one of the things (the gold Zelda one), all the others are normal ones. I wanted all 4 of us to be able to play this. If I have to get two new Wiimotes then I'm afraid I'm out. Anyone know for sure?

It definitely works with normal remotes without motion plus.

We'll see I guess. It would be very mean spirited not to offer a free upgrade.

You don't really know where you stand as a fan with Nintendo. I mean, as a consumer, it's obvious, they're going to charge you but then again it is supposed to be a Virtual Console 'service'. They were adamant before that once you sold your Wii, you sold the VC games with it. Then again, they gave every early 3DS adopter 20 Virtual Console games. Would those accounts be linked?

We're going to have to buy VC games again? I thought that they worked, just not on the gamepad?

Yes. They work but not on the gamepad.

According to the translation of that video, there will be Wii-U VC games down the line that *do* work on the game pad. The question is, will they have to be bought or will there be a free upgrade programme?

They do work and no you won't have to buy them again if you transfer them from your Wii and are happy to access and play them as you always have.

The discussion here is: Nintendo have announced a 'new' VC service within which the games will work on the gamepad - folks are wondering if they'll be able to transfer their purchases to this service as well (in addition to having originally transferred them over from their Wii).

Yes.

Erm, you meant no surely?

I've corrected that for you ;)

Fuck me, this is definitely worth derailing the thread for.

Right, while I concede that my initial answer of 'yes' could be construed as an answer to John Self's question about re-buying VC games, the supporting text (echoed by your own response) that followed coupled with my quotes demonstrating clearly that the yes was in answer to his question about whether games will work on the pad or not should have been enough to satisfy even the most picky of internet pedants. But not you, obviously.

I am sorry. My 'yes' was in response to his second question. I can see how confusing this could be and I fully accept the inevitable and much deserved ban from this forum. I won't perform an edit as this will bring further shame upon myself.

Its being reported that the once updates etc are done that the 8GB version of the WiiU will only have 3GB of memory left to install games onto.

Which is handy as Nintendoland itself is 3.2gb.

/facepalm.

Is Nintendo Land available as a download? I thought it was a disk only game. Surely they don't need installing.

Nintendo said they were making every retail game available as a digital purchase, didn't they?

Ah missed that.

I guess the basic model (well both models really) need a USB HDD if you're going to make a habit of downloading full games.

I can't see me downloading any while disk games are so much cheaper.

I want to have everything available on my console more so with the Wii U than any other console. If I can play games from bed in another room, it'd be much easier to be able to switch games without having to change discs.

It's a real waste having everything pretty much at full price. I've been spoiled by getting pretty much every PC game for about £20 on day one.

Well done, have a +1 :)

To get on-topic again - surely the 'Basic' Wii U deal is aimed at the 'casual' market - who will stick a disc in the machine and play the game, blissfully unaware that the internet tells them they should be raging because they don't have enough flash ram to install the game they are merrily playing should they want to for some reason.

Having all my Wii games on a HD makes me wonder how I'll cope not doing that on a Wii U.

Yes, I doubt many 'casuals' even know what the internet is or would even be interested in the concept of downloading games at all.

Have I accidentally stumbled upon a connection to a forum circa 2002. If so, guys they're eventually going to announce that Ridley Scott is planning to make another Alien film. DON'T LOOK FORWARD TO IT.

At the same time these people are probably going to be aware that 8gb is fuck all memory and if they want to download games they should either go for the 32gb model or buy an (or plug in their existing) external harddrive.

Its not a big deal.
