How is HOTAS + sofa?

If you can keep it stable, likely very comfortable. I tried a few times when playing Elite and never really found a sweet spot where I wasn't also moving the unit itself, so the coffee table needed to come into play.

Anyone playing this at the moment - there's an interesting event going on in Imperial Space

4 starports have been attacked and are on fire - requesting supplies and/or evacuations. I know a few of you are Imperial allied so it's probably quite near your locations.

It's just a nice different task to do if you're bored and it's intense flying into a burning station. Kit your ship with passenger accommodation and heatsinks and there are some quick bucks to earn - especially Empire reputation. I managed to rinse an entire Promotion (from Lord -> Viscount) in about an hour.

Maybe it will get some solid tweaking during the build up and release of a big expac... It has felt to me like no one in Frontier cared about the game as a game, they had strong ideas about how people SHOULD play, but could do nothing to make that the best style of play. So much effort has gone into multiplayer aspects that don't add anything to the game... if it was a single player game with a story and 'fluid' enough economic model a single person could influence things it would be my ideal game!

As per FDev's forum post, they've set up a team to manage galnet, Community events and narrative over the newfew years.  They'd all ground to a halt, so good news. They'd all been on pause.

They also confirm no ship interior for this expansion.  There is some element of walking around stations along side planetary bases.  Given their size, presumably it's a limited area.

VR support is back in.  Switches to a theatre mode when on foot. Seems like the perfect compromise for a game that's not a dedicated VR title

There's so many ways they could go with this expansion, they seem to be picking their battles well.  I'm perversely looking forward to seeing how much play I can get out of not getting in my spaceship.  Taxiing around some systems, doing missions etc.

I like how they seem to have made space suits the planetary equivalent of a ship, with different roles. Because a space suit kind of is a personal space ship!

I wonder if we could get different SRV types too.

When this gets me back in to the game I feel like I’ll be shelving my just-purchased Python temporarily for something more smugglery. Back to the Cobra maybe. Anyone else?

I'm really hoping they do nail the suitiness of the suits. The feel of spaceships and SRV in ED is brilliant.

Technically any new SRVs would be some other acronym, if they're not for recon. :)

Aside from trying the taxi service, I'll probably stick with the Krait.  Quite enjoyed pooting about in that.  The Python is a bit boring after a while.

Well I've just renewed my PS+ after a year or so out of the loop, and I also just happen to have a shiny new HOTAS sat here for Squadrons so think I may jump back into this game again. :)

I have forgotten pretty much all the controls though so with that and having to map/get used to the HOTAS I may potter about for a bit first.

Are there jetpacks? That's the one thing that makes on-foot traversal in No Man's Sky so fun. Trying to thrust over canyons etc without breaking your legs on the ground below.

Yup. You can see the nozzles on the backpack. They mentioned power management in the polygon article. It'll presumably be jetpac, shields, life support.  The different suits probably have more capacity in one of these areas?

Getting back into this.  Got a bit bored of commodities trading so figured I'd go pick up a blackbox. There was the possibility of attack im th e mission so of course I got attacked as I got there and I just got absolutely pasted within 30 seconds.  Clearly I need to upgrade.  Ended up having to travel a fair few light years becuase I seemed to respawn in a penal colony of some sort.    Can you tell I havn't played this game in a long time.

Anyhoo, controls were quick to pick up at least.  Done a few more missions and actually taken out a pirate or two (harmless level, same as me).   Is there a trick t being good combat pilot other than just try to stay behind other craft?    I've upgraded my repair pod a bit. Got a slightly better multi canon.   Anything else?  Better batteries for the lasers?   I have about 700K in credits.  Not much.

IIRC, the trick with the blackbox missions is to drop into the source and wait.  The attackers will warp in and scan you, find an empty hold and then bugger off.  Then you go for the blackbox.

@rafaqat

I find it very hard to deal with more than one ship at a time, even in my fully armed Anaconda (humblebrag :) ) . I would suggest you to go to a system with a war ongoing and find a conflict zone (low) and practise joining in the scrap.

Someone on here advised me to get a ship that can actually manoeuvre and practice in that. So I took an Eagle into a moderately dangerous resource extraction area and chased some pirates so I got the hang of dodging, getting behind the other ship etc. with a relatively low price every time I messed up.

Dusted this off today because I needed something laid back that I could do with a podcast on, and I just settled back in to it. I'm chasing resources to max out the FSD on my Python now, and fiddling with Coriolis has me thinking that it might actually be worth my while pursuing thruster customisations for my main ships. But I just don't really understand what the thruster mods and experimental effects do. Is there a good idiots' guide for engineering?
