X-Men: Days of Future Past

I enjoyed it overall. The first half was fantastic and felt like it was building to a pretty great ending, but the second half turned into the same-old, same-old. A bit of a shame really. And while First Class really felt like it was set in the 60s, this felt like it was set in the present but with everybody wearing flares. Michael Fassbender is wonderful to watch though, really incredible screen presence. And Quicksilver was superb - disappointed we didn't see more of him!

X-Men 2 is on Sky Movies now and it's a much better film, best one they've ever done.

I enjoyed this but like most films that involve time travel, there are always so many plot holes. For one, why would the events of Xmen 1-3 not happen just because Mystique didn't kill Trask? The other films don't mention the sentinels once, so I don't see how their existence would change the events of previous films.

Also - why is Xavier still alive when he was obliterated in X3?

We don't know why the events of 1-3 wouldn't happen but, based on what we see, they didn't. The Sentinel programme was cancelled, the future war didn't happen and Jean Grey didn't die.

That in itself suggests that the events depicted in films 1-3 didn't occur as we've previously witnessed them, but somehow Xavier pulled them all together.

Basically, Bryan Singer just retconned the entire series.

Old Man Logan is Wolverine 3? Love the idea of seeing that on screen, but there are loads of non-X-men characters in that. Are they just going to make up a load of mutants to replace Hulk, Mysterio, Kingpin, Hawkeye etc?

I guess the concept is still sound. Old cranky Wolverine walks a post-apocalyptic world getting revenge on the dudes who did it all.

Nah, not in the movies. In the comics he ripped all the Adamantium right off Wolverine's bones and left him a gibbering wreck.

Tye real problem is that you can control all the metal you like, but given that Wolverine could survive a nuclear explosion then even if you can hurt or incapacitate him for a bit you're still going to end up with him super pissed off at you and fully healed.

Singer announced "The Rogue Cut" which apparently means a version with 17 extra minutes. And incredible Wolverine 'shopping

The Rogue Cut of the film brings back a cut sequence that featured Professor X (Patrick Stewart) and Magneto (Ian McKellen) on a mission in the future involving Iceman (Shawn Ashmore) and Rogue. Collider caught up with writer and producer Simon Kinberg a while back, and he explained what some of the restored footage entailed:
“It was like, ‘What would it be like to have Patrick and Ian on a road trip together?’ And that was kind of, you know, it got condensed as I wrote it and then when we shot it, but it was just a sub-plot. It was a perfectly good sub-plot and people will see it one day, and Anna was great in it and it was well-directed; it just didn’t serve the overall story. And it didn’t, it never did, it was created outside the core story. As a result, when you watched the movie, you were like, ‘Why are we on this detour, on a movie that already has two time periods, two types of Sentinels, 10-12 main characters, just as a lark?’ And so it ended up getting cut.”

But in reality if he did want Logan dead he could just rip his head off and be done with it.
