My question is, what does Rick McCallum do now that Lucasfilm has been sold off ? I haven't followed Star Wars or Lucasfilm for yeaaaaaaarrrs but I just remember him being George Lucas' sidekick who always seemed to be lurking in the background.

take over and run it the way he/Disney want perhaps

EDIT: nevermind forgot LucasFilm already appointed a new co-chairman a while back, looks like Kathleen Kennedy will be the new President, so yeah who knows where that leaves McCallum.

I'm in shock! And dare I say it? A little excited...

Same here. I'm excited at the thought of Hamill having a good cameo or even being the Obi Wan (episode IV) of the new film.

Hopefully there'll be a steady drip feed of news to help us through 'til 2015!

Sidenote: I said the 'official side of Star Wars' because in truth the best thing to come out re Star Wars since ROTJ is Plinkett's reviews and the excellent Ryan Vs Dorkman 1&2 - both of which are literally more enjoyable than all three of the prequels combined.

Has it actually been confirmed that Lucas is having nothing to do with the sequels?

he's writen treatments for the next few and, as he puts it, some other films and will be a consultant for the forseeable future at least. right now it appears that he and the new head of LucasFilm are about to starting talking to prospective writters to see who'll turn Lucas's ideas in to actual stories.

Sadly not, he is at Sony.

As surprising as this news is I couldn't remotely care about the news of more Star Wars films but it is always fun speculating on potential directors - Cuaron and Bird would be my picks.

Sad face, I'd love to see a Tartovsky star wars movie.

The media are reporting he'll be a creative consultant... Personally I think the guy is creatively bankrupt, which has been brought about by inital (deserved) mega success and then too much money and power, which itself leads to being surrounded by yes men.

So for those reasons, if he has much more than a cursory say in the sequels then I don't hold out much hope for them I'm afraid. I'm glad for you guys to be happy and get excited but after the, imo, pretty appalling prequels and the dreadful Indy 4, it's quite clear to me the guy isn't in any shape to take on the series again.

In a nutshell, people who become incredibly powerful generally end up being unable to control their creative talents and the loss of constraints only goes to quicken this. It takes an incredibly grounded person to sustain their talent amid such temptations.

Anyway I really hope it turns out well. I'd love to see a decent film again set in that wonderful universe. Thrawn for the win!!
