Star Wars: The Force Awakens

Aren't there credible leaks about what happens in the plot doing the rounds, with some of those elements subsequently supported by the trailers and various other official merch etc?

If so, presumably plot spoilers are eminently possible - and once people start plopping standard spoiler boxes throughout this thread, without going in, how are we to know what is a bit of light-hearted speculation/laffs and what is in response to some other leaked info that may well be true?

Maybe Luke went to the dark side. Is that a spoiler?

Maybe Rey's last name is Skywalker or Solo. Is that spoiler?

Maybe Leia is now a force user. Is that a spoiler?

It just seems a very weird interpretation of what "spoiler" means.

I think if it involves official press or merchandise then spoiler...as people might be trying to avoid all that.

If it's just your own personal speculation then don't.

Really, if you don't want the movie spoiled you should avoid this thread until the movie, as spoilers are bound to appear in here.

There's nothing credible enough to meet the point you're worried about. As an example the stuff discussed on this page is pure speculation. But c'mon.

Tom Baker says he will very soon be doing voice recording for "this new Star Wars thing". Though nobody knows exactly which Star Wars thing it is. Depending on how soon, perhaps it's not too late for it to be Ep VIII. I suppose it could also be Rebels. Maybe too soon for Rogue One voice work?

The attitude to spoilers has certainly changed a great deal since the original Star Wars. I remember reading the two part Marvel comic adaptation months before the film appeared. It contained, quite a few major spoilers for the film as it turned out, some of which never even appeared in the film. I remember a scene on the Death Star, where Darth Vader was holding a cup of coffee and I was wondering how on earth he could drink it through the mask, only for that to never happen in the film.

I also bought the film novelisation about a year before the film came out. The book contained a preface, 'From The Journal of the Whills' which I'm sure was written by a character called Mace Windy or something like that, talking about the shadowy emperor who had taken hold of and destroyed the Old Republic.

All these spoilers just made me want to see the film even more...

That sounds amazing, obviously. Perhaps George was hoping to slot a bit of Nescafe product placement in during an earlier draft.

There was loads of stuff that was different in the comic, though my memory of it has faded somewhat. The Obi Wan death scene was a lot more spectacular in the comic, where he kind of exploded into a fiery mess, eyes flying out of the middle of the panel. The film depiction of cloak falling from a coat hanger was mildly disappointing in comparison.

The book adaptation had loads of extra scenes, things like Luke and Biggs at Mos Eisley, Jabba the Hut, that sort of thing. I've still got the book somewhere, though I think it's falling apart and all the pages have become the colour of tea. I might try to read it and see if I can post some of the major differences. The Journal of the Whills preface was pretty interesting though.

Now I realise you are simply mixing it up with Capwn's graphic novel.

Amazing.

Also, as for the previous spoiler discussion

Those two big holepunches confused me. For a minute I thought, in the background behind chewie, I was looking at a giant death star -esque casino hanging in space with a giant dollar sign printed across it. Now I'm almost disappointed that's not the case.

In the first panel, when Darth force summons the coffee, that is legit badassary. Manipulation of mundane, everyday objects is blatantly what most of us would do with control of the force anyway.

"I could save the Galaxy or some worthy shit, but I could also just pop in some toast without leaving the sofa."

Interview with Drew Struzan, genius poster artist for all the SW films and doing the Ep VII poster, over at Movie Weekly:

And this is the choice quote:

"I got to read the script and subsequently I’ve seen half of it (THE FORCE AWAKENS) and I can tell you and the fans this, honest to god, it is far and away probably going to be THE BEST Star Wars you’ve ever seen"

Please be right. Please be right...
