Star Wars: The Force Awakens

All the different types of FX uses have their advantages and place when done right. The sorry state of affairs is when it (as in CGI) is indiscriminately used for everything. The great thing about this project (as seen from that photo-reel) is that they seem to use whatever is best for a given situation. As much as CGI has advanced it still isn't quite there to fool us.

You know what, even if this sucks, there's going to be a moment in December when I'll be sitting in a packed cinema with a big bucket of popcorn, and the lights are going to go down, and then John Williams will start blasting out of the speakers, and I'll be four years old again.

My main wish for this film (other than 2D IMAX) is that there is no swearing in it.

Given how bad modern filmaking is (like Avatar), if the original 1977 Star Wars was made today, as Luke and Leia swung across the Death Star in that most famous of scenes, it would be met with a "ooohhhhhh shiiiiitttttt" as they went across.

I hope they resist the temptation to do this here. I've seen Super 8 by JJ, a great little film spoilt by one of the most ridiculous out of place expletives ever in a film.

I assume bantha poodoo is exactly what it sounds like, though.

That would be logical enough, but in truth it's another daft case of prequel vandalism. When the line was first uttered by Jabba the Hutt in RotJ, the translation at the bottom of the screen was "bantha fodder", but being the complete genius that he is, George Lucas then decided to take an in-universe word that means 'fodder' but simply sounds a little bit like 'poo' and turn it into something literally equating to poo. So when Sebulba exclaims "POODOO" in frustration after he realises he's lost the podrace to Anakin, what he's actually shouting, ridiculously, is 'FODDER'.

Nice one George.
