Star Wars: The Force Awakens

Stu how do you judge what is a spoiler. I see you spoilered the name of the desert planet earlier, yet it's named EA dlc and has been discussed by Abrams in a panel discussion. If people are so adamant not to have any information they should just avoid open discussion in it. Just ridiculous.

Err on the side of caution? It's trivial to add things to spoiler tags. However, that there's nothing we can't discuss in this thread is patently absurd. I mean, the last (edit - last but one) spoiler in this thread contained things from the leak. Are people to literally avoid this thread until after they've seen it because of that? Is that what you're saying? If so, I'll start another thread.

Do it and take your BB8 ball with you. The only thing I'd spoil would be something of the magnitude of 'I'm Your Father'. If you seriously say you go through this thread and not click on spoiler links, that probably have the meat of the discussion in them then maybe you should stay away.

its labelled POTENTIAL BIG SPOILER with-in the Spoiler tags

That's the problem. Your spoiler has no context outside of it and could have been about anything that wouldn't be a problem to read, so I open it and 'inside' there's a warning. Why not just put that outside of the spoiler box? Then I wouldn't have clicked.

Not trying to be a dick. I'd just rather avoid anything that's not been in a trailer, so plot spoilers based on leaks are something I'd like to avoid.

I said it months ago, we have two camps. I'm in the one that wants to soak up as much festive, gleeful, thismomentwillnevercomeagain Star Wars magic as possible and am happy to spoil myself silly in the name of it. And there are those that want to go in more or less as blind as possible. Both are valid. We probably need two threads.

This is daft. I loved reading the reactions to the trailer, particularly as someone who obsesses over Star Wars and actually likes the prequels/EU, as the general mood of the forum shifted from SW saturation to being energized for it again. However, for want of an utterly trivial thing of putting bits of text in spoiler tags, especially when sourced from leaks, I need to avoid this thread.

You're being utterly unreasonable.

Ok dick heads, here are the spoiler guidelines:

Here are a set of guidelines regarding the use of spoilers in this folder:

- In TV threads please use spoilers up until 8pm the day after first transmission

- In film threads please use spoilers up until the end of the theatrical run

- No 'alternative media' spoilers in TV Show / Film threads unless explicitly labeled

- Where possible provide a description of what you are spoiling - e.g. at the end...

Spoiler

- Do not post unrelated spoilers in other film or TV threads (e.g. spoiling the end of the director's previous film)

- Any information that hasn't been gained simply by watching the TV show/film in question should be treated as a spoiler

- Use common sense. If you think what you are typing could potentially spoil somebody else's enjoyment of said film or TV show then make sure you spoiler it.

So I don't think we're asking for anything unreasonable.

I've been trying to figure out what looks different about Chewie, and I realised.

It's his eyes. In the old films they're just Peter Mayhew's...post-2055-0-54533200-1429305124.jpg

It may just be a trick of the light, but in the trailer they look totally black, like a bear or something.

That isn't a spoiler and an example of a post that will be completely wasted on those sensitive souls.

Definitely prefer the old look.

Actually, because he provided context I had a good idea of the nature of the content and so read it and everything was fine.

I'd say he looks like he's got a bit of CGI about him too.

i think they have CGI "enhanced" the live action costume to make Chewie look more alive. That or better animatronics.

Must be a very thin line though - design a brand new state of art costume VS what people though they saw 30 years ago as children..

I sure JJ is well of aware of the risks...

A CGI background prop is very different to CGI characters talking in a CGI room with CGI background props.

The prequels had very few CGI backgrounds, and extensive model work.

http://boards.theforce.net/threads/practical-effects-in-the-prequels-sets-pictures-models-etc.50017310/

The prequels are bad because they were badly written, directed and acted, not because a spaceship was made by a man with a computer instead of a man with a glue gun.

Look, it's unreasonable of people to think they can just pop into a thread about the new Star Wars and not see things being discussed and therefore potentially spoilt. Similarly, if you have something you think is a spoiler, or a potential spoiler, be kind to your fellow forumite and stick it in tags. We don't need two threads for everything, that's just pathetic. We don't want every single post to be hidden in spoiler tags, but we don't want massive plot twists discussed out the open. Stuff like the colour of Chewie's eyes or the name of a new planet that we know nothing about are not spoilers.

What a minute. Who is who's father?

Unless you're one of the people sensitive enough to spoilers that you think they are.

Sorry, I deleted my message when I reread Broker's post. But yeah the eye thing and the name of the planet I wouldn't expect to be have spoilered. Even if I'd rather have assumed it was Tattooine until I saw the film. All I'd ask is that anything not in a trailer, or that anything people know or have worked out from leaked material be spoilered and labelled as that sort of spoiler.
