The general improvement of the VFX, such as with the Snowspeeders during the battle on Hoth.

Personally, I also like the extra X-Wings shown lining up to take on the Death Star in A New Hope.

Yeah, the new Xwings (during that pan) look rendered, even though there's more of them. Should have added to the shot, not replace it (at least, it looks replaced).

Back on topic of the forthcoming film. Watching the first one last night reminded me how powerful the scene of Obi-Wan sacrificing himself was.

And it got me thinking... Luke is so doing that in this next film, isn't he?

My fears lie elsewhere for practical reasons.

Empire suffers least from the additions, but Lucas still meddled too much by changing Vader's angry "Bring my shuttle" line to something much more obvious. ROTJ has the same problem (as well as having awful scene changes) where Solo, attempting to rescue Lando from the Sarlaac, now says "It's OK, I can see a lot better now" rather than his "Hey, trust me" line. And that's the worst thing about a lot of the changes - Lucas gives the audience no credit for working things out for themselves and has to spell them out in the most obvious fashion. From Greedo shooting first, through Luke's no longer silent sacrifice in Empire (thankfully restored in more recent versions) to Vader's "Noooooo !" In RoTJ. We don't NEED this stuff spelled out for us, but Lucas treating everyone like they're total morons and spelling it out in the most clunky way he can possibly muster really fucking grates.

nah Greedo is the worst change. Han knowing that he was going to be shot but calmly shooting him dead first set up the whole charachter of Han solo.

Then that changed to professional killer Greedo missing from less than a metre.

The rocks are absolutly ridiculous though. Not sure how R2 got behind them!

Watched the despecialised edition of Star Wars. Know it's very old hat, but cannot even begin to get my head around whatever thought process Lucas had to think, 'nope, Greedo should shoot first there', or why no one stepped in to stop the mad bastard.
