It's nice just to ramble away about, i think we all are more criticising the film rather than being OTT he ruined my life. That's what annoys me the most about the prequels, the fact that they are badly made in regards to film making and continuity stuff.

The stupid thing is, Luke turns into a proper not-in-hiding active Jedi Knight, and he wears the pretty sweet black outfit, which in the prequels would mean he was definitely evil, and then just... whatever clothes are appropriate to the situation. And then the cool black outfit again at the end. No brown robes at all.

He wears robes at the beginning of RotJ to pretend to not be a Jedi!

Ah shit. Just remembered - Anakin's ghost at the end of RotJ is dressed in exactly the same outfit as Obi-Wan.

So actually this "those Robes are Jedi robes" thing predates the prequels by years and years.

Does it though? Tell me. Where was Anakin born and brought up until the age of 9?

Good names all round. A few immediate thoughts and observations:

Kylo = 'kill'-o

Ridley = R...ey

Rey / Leia ("Ley-a")

Finn / Han

Poe... not sure. Potential force ghost connection?

It's like Poe-try.

Yeah they probably just shop at the same store for their old man clothes.

And that store sells exactly one outfit, but nobody else in the OT shops there.

Jedit costumes dall deeply into "shut that has no bearing on anything". TV and film does this sort of thing all the time, particularly if an image is embedded in public consciousness. The plot ramifications are always secondary to not confusing the audience.

Anakin building robots is also falls into this category. Its just a way to indicate he is special and setup the pod race.

The Phantom Menace problems are nothing to do with those things. Those are for obsessives to pick out after. Fix the pacing and dialogue and no one cares about those things.
