Star Wars: The Force Awakens

Interesting rumour regarding the wielder of the tri-saber.

There's been tons of speculation that it's Adam Driver, who may or not be a Solo kid and who may or may not be a "hunter" of Jedi and Sith Relics, which leads to him turning to the Dark Side. The leaked concept art showing the Darth Revan mask alongside the tri-saber feeds into this idea; speculating that Driver has found it and is sporting it.

However, since we know that flashbacks are included for the first time in Episode VII it's causing some to speculate that the figure IS Darth Revan himself and that we're witnessing his demise, probably as someone relates the tale in voiceover, possibly Andy Serkis' character.

It would account for the ragged nature of the blade, the unique design and would then allow Driver to wear the mask and tie into his relic hunting, which is leading up to him reclaiming Vader's helmet from his pyre on Endor.

EDIT: there's also speculation that rather than being killed, Revan (or whatever Ancient Sith is the focus) is put into stasis/carbonite and it's this "awakening" that kick starts the peril.

Yswr, you may now spaff.

if you look at the main star wars saga as 12 films (which is what I'm convinced they will do).

it makes structural sense to start the first half of the story with one villain (the emperor), and then replace him with an even greater menace in the 2nd part of the story. and ideally if you are organised, you set this villain up in the first half of the story whilst you are still dealing with villain no 1.

with that in mind... surely the only villain JJ can use that carries gravity and weight is Darth Plagues (or whatever he is called). He has been named in the prequels as the creator of the Emperor and that is about as good a set up as you are going to get for ultimate star wars evil that "wakes up". JJ also has free reign to do whatever he likes with him.

i personally don't buy any of these extended universe rumours about Ep 7's villains, as it just seems so unimaginative.

Part of the appeal of the probably bullshit rumours is that it basically does away with midichlorians. The force "awakening" makes it more ethereal and awesome again. I can't see JJ addressing the virgin birth nonsense from the prequels.

That said

I bet Max Von Sadow is probably going to end up being Sifo Dyas, so who knows.

I don't know what to believe. I'm adopting the "I could be hit by a bus tomorrow" attitude and trying to soak it all in. That only means you know less than if you aren't seeking out any info.

MVS, if you believe the latest rumour is

Boba Fett.

So, let me get this right - after waiting many, many years for these films a number of you want to know everything about the plot in advance?

I've been reading a few of the spoilers just to see if it looks like it's going to be a steaming turd. So far, I've been pleasantly surprised but I don't want to know everything about it.

Darth Revan? Are you LOL?

Yswr will be along in a minute to explain it but the concept art leak seems to back it up. It's either him or someone wearing his mask; the latter is more probable but as i pointed out in my spoiler, the former can't be discounted.

For clarity, I have no idea who or what Darth Revan is, I just know what their mask looks like.

Just because the mask shares that design doesn't mean its Revan's mask.

Rumour:

One surprise villain will be C-3PO, who allows the Ewoks' worship of him to go to his already too narcissistic head. His experience with the Rebel Alliance, close relationships with its leaders, ability to communicate with any lifeform or device and worship by the Ewoks are advantageous to his ultimate plan: proper etiquette throughout the galaxy, on pain of death.

Just curious as to how it'll pan out. Assuming VII is good, I think I'll be much less inclined to go hunting details of VIII and IX and just wait for them to appear in the cinema. That's generally how I approached LOTR.

You'll find out how it pans out in the cinema when you see the film. That's how seeing films works, you see.

This level of anticipation and people still want to spoil the experience for themselves. Remarkable.

I had 2 hours of crushing disappointment watching The Phantom Menace and 18 months prior being giddy and speculating on how awesome it was going to be.

I expect this movie will actually be good, but I'm not going to miss out on the festivities. This isn't a random new movie. It isn't interstellar. It's freakin Star Wars and I will absorb every drip of information and atmosphere while there is said atmosphere to take in!

Appreciated, I didn't realize that's how it works.

So on that note, can we generally expect you not to appear in this thread until release, or at least the next trailer, then? Given there's nothing but rumour to go on, currently.

Can't you just leave people to it? What are you bringing to the thread with this sneering?

Some people might not want to waste their hype levels on something and then be disappointed after going to the cinema after the tripe that was the prequels.

It's called an opinion, calm down. I'm surprised that the people who have the most to gain from going fresh into the film are wanting to see all these details about it.

That's all I wanted to say, don't make a huge fuss about it.

It's a moot point anyway as there will be approx 114 trailers and TV spots before release, which will spoil the plot and set pieces, something which I've complained about before.

Guys you don't need to defend yourselves.

I know it's what he wants, but what else is the thread for? The movie is a year out from release, so we either talk about the speculation on what it'll be about or we argue with Smitty about how we shouldn't be doing that.
