Star Wars: The Force Awakens

Well, it is just a teaser. There's not much to get excited about other than the fact that a new Star Wars movie is actively in production (and being made by people who might be able to make a good job of it). That's really all you can do with a sequence of context-free shots.

I wonder if there's anyone that didn't know until they saw the teaser. Imagine what a holy shit moment that would have been.

Just was watching the Ep.1 trailer again...hells bells that really way a bloody fantastic thing.

It's still painful watching that and working out just how badly the film panned out...

Darth Maul should have been a classic villain, played out over the three films.

So, whilst I suspect this new film will be absolutely fine I refuse to get excited by any of it...

Boyega can't be a real stormtrooper can he? The only time in the OT you see anyone in that unform, without a helmet, they are not stormtroopers.

Why not? I'd always presumed that stormtroopers in the ot were just regular people who'd joined up, effectively a police force.

Edit, one of my favorite scenes in Star Wars was when you hear the troopers discussing things between themselves as they stand guard. It gave them a human side which really added to buying into the films world.

Hmm, if only there was a word to describe a group of soldiers, a collective noun perhaps. Tricky.

I thought they were supposed to be clones?

I thought this too. Isn't the idea that the clone troopers created in the prequels became the Empire's regular army / storm troopers? Why go to all the trouble of creating and growing a perfect clone army and then just replacing them with regular joes?

What's the canon explanation of this? I genuinely thought the storm troopers were supposed to all look like Jango Fett inside?

Not directly related to this film. But it made me chuckle so I thought I'd share it.

Listened to the I Was There Too podcast this morning, with Greg Proops from Whose Line Is It Anyway. He played one half of the podrace announcer in episode 1.

He said that in an interview he mentioned that he ad-libbed a lot of his lines and then a few days later got a furious call from someone from Lucasfilm bollocking him for daring to suggest that anything on screen came from anywhere but the hallowed pen of George Lucas.

All the cloning facilities got destroyed. So you end up replacing them with normal folks as attrition takes them out.

Either way, with the number of clones created in Episode 2 you might have a decent sized army, but they're very specific that it is an army and they also make it clear that it would be a pretty massive ache in the testicles to make more, especially if you wanted them quickly. So whilst the clone troopers might make a good army, they were never going to make an effective police force for spreading across an entire galaxy.

Ah ok, thanks.

I guess this isn't something that a movie watcher (only) would ever know. I just assumed after watching the prequels and since you never see any storm troopers sans helmet, ever, that they were all still clones.

It's EU that all the clones go on to be storm troopers, the best of which go on to form the 501st, which is Vader's lot. Those are the "entire legion of my best troops" getting taken out by Ewoks.

I don't remember the cloning facilities getting taken out, but it's definitely mentioned that STs are, generally clones. May not be the original batch, and they're supplemented with ordinary folks. Officers are all people who came up through the Academy. Mind, that Lucas didn't* dub over the voices of the STs idly chatting while Ben takes out the tractor beam points to numbers being made up with non-clones.

To be honest though, I've no idea what's canon any more.

*I haven't seen the Blu Ray edition, even I can't stomach the thought of NOOOOOOO getting added to one of the best scenes out of any of these films.
