Star Wars: The Force Awakens

HOLY FUCKING SHITBALLS! :omg:

Love how gritty the FX look compared to the shininess of the prequels. These maniacs might actually pull this off.

Yeah this - it looked like a sequel to Jedi rather than a sequel to the prequels.

Anticipation levels cautiously rising.

I thought the teaser was ACE except I don't like the new visualisation of the Falcon engine. Maybe my favourite thing about the Falcon is that the engine is just a pure blue/white blowout in which you can't make out details. It really communicated that this was a heavily modified ship with an extremely over-juiced engine. AND it looked really cool.

New Falcon looks more CGI (cos it is) and the engine doesn't look as badass.

Minor criticism though, obvs. Love the new Laser Claymore. Considering how often people get their hands/arms chopped off by sabres, I don't think a hilt is a bad idea.

Actually thought the ass of the Falcon looked thinner than it normally does.

A comment on YouTube: "I honestly thought that this was a fake trailer because that is just how it looks. Seriously, a black storm trooper, a soccer ball droid, a pointless dumb looking lightsaber, it just looks fake. "

Bloody blacks, coming over here, stealing our stormtrooper jobs.

It looks great, BUT I thought they said they wouldn't be so reliant on CGI - the original trilogy had fantastic space battles using models, so why not do that again? If it was possible to do something as incredible as the asteroid scene chase 30 odd years ago, then surely the technology to do it again using models should have got better and not have that phony CGI look to it.

Apart from that, I'm like a pig in shit.

Nah, not feeling it. Which is weird because while I was against the idea originally, everything I've heard about the film since production started has left me quietly optimistic but that trailer...nope.

Seriously, what a gimp, no wonder they took to wearing a mask.

And stop sticking this stuff in spoiler tags, it's not bloody Revan because Revan probably doesn't even exist anymore in the context of the films.

It's understandable that some are cynical after the god-awful prequels & the general shittiness of modern Hollywood output, but as teasers go I thought it was pretty promising. Not much to go on, admittedly, but in terms of the look & tone I get the impression that Abrams knows what he's doing & this is gonna turn out really well. As one of the many who had their love of an iconic part of my childhood stomped on by Lucas' CGI-ridden crapfests, I'm really excited for this.

There are valid concerns that it could be crammed full of winking fan-service & hoary clichés but there's absolutely nothing concrete to suggest that this will be the case so far & I do think that in the internet age we pore over every little detail of any media that's released & people get a bit carried away with their forensic dissection of this kind of thing. There's nothing wrong with discussion of course, but I can't help but feel that some people are determined to have their preconceptions validated & will leap on anything that confirms their view, spinning it out to hyperbolic levels based on not much more than conjecture, hearsay & a stolen glimpse of a screenshot from a teaser trailer. I find it a bit odd.

I'd be perfectly happy for that to be the only preview we get, to be honest. I always go back to the original trailer for Alien & dearly wish that it was still like that: 2 minutes of fleeting glimpses of what you're going to get that sets up the tone & creates a sense of anticipation but leaves you walking into the cinema on the day of release none the wiser. No TV spots, no production stills, no behind-the-scenes sneak-peeks, no endless debate of casting choices etc. It'll never happen of course & instead no doubt we'll get a full trailer for this next summer that will give away the whole plot of the film, ruin any sense of mystery & cause another round of endless internet debate, so that by the time it comes out most people will have made their mind up anyway because they've submersed themselves in so much preview media that there's no space left to fill with any excitement or surprise. C'est la vie.

I genuinely enjoyed that trailer more than any of the prequels in their entirety. In fact I don't think I've ever grinned so much watching a trailer for anything! Obviously it went for full on nostalgia, but it did it so very well!

Only twelve months away! :D

When have they started production/filming on this? Star Wars seems like such a monumental undertaking that 2015 almost seems too soon.

I know Cameron is shooting Avatar 2 and 3 back to back but still, the sequel for that won't be here until late 2016 no? (for reference, the original came out in 2009)

Well, that's interesting. I thought the ball part looked real. Not the head though. Is that head real then?

If it's all real then presumably the head piece is suspended from wires or built on some sort of gimble mechanism (and painted green for green screen removal from the frame) in order to produce that bobbing motion without requiring a motorised device?

I just ask because the head/motion *looks* like CGI.

The head was completely mechanised. I talked to the guy who designed it and was pretty impressed with how much control they had over the whole thing. They had a whole rig attached to the bot that was painted green so that they could have as much control as possible.

If I say anything more I'll definitely be breaking NDA though. Ask me again in a year!

I will say this , if you think he looks stupid, wait until you hear the name.

Is it a whole load of simple tricks and nonsense?
