Random Video/Picture Thread - Film/TV Edition

This might well fall on its backside. A random video/picture thread, similar to the one in Off Topic, but for the purpose of Film/TV related stuff that doesn't have or warrant its own thread, that might otherwise be missed if posted in Off Topic.

Stick anything in here, jot a quick description if the video warrants it and please label or link anything that is not safe for work appropriately.

Here's a Hunger Games pitch video made by the guy who went on to create that Mortal Kombat: Rebirth short. He pitched it to Lionsgate a few years ago and it's made up of different films in an endeavour to get his vision of The Hunger Games across without actually creating specific footage.

That actually looks better than what I saw at the cinema. :)

Remember those shite Punisher films starring Thomas Jane? So does Thomas Jane, and to atone for those, he's taken his own cash and made this 10 minute short film that blows everything in those films away.

They should give the team behind this a shot at making another film.

That's the best video on YouTube by a country mile. Can we kickstart a full movie please.

I'd happily chuck in bucketloads for 2 hours of that.

Thing is with that Punisher short is that it's cool but Frank would have just went out and shot the lot of them with no hesitation instead of hitting them with whisky bottles. I'd like to see Ray Stevensons take on the Punisher again, the biggest disappointment with Warzone was the script.

That's one thing that bothered me (very slightly) about the opening shot of the Joker on the street holding his mask; when he takes it off in the bank he's got his makeup on so presumably he had the makeup on before putting on the mask which means he was stood on the sidewalk in broad daylight in full makeup holding his mask and then the van drawsupandtheguysinthevanmustSEEHIMBEFOREHISMASKGOESONANDTHEYDON'THINKANYTHNGSUPWTFHAT?

So why wasn't he saying this to Lucas for The Phantom Menace, etc. instead of going on the DVD and sucking Lucas dick?

It's worth remembering it was released in 1999 and the sheer amount of CGI characters/creatures/crowds they tried to do was pretty much unprecedented at the time. Also very early use of digital film cameras in cinema and that definitely contributed to the 'look' of the film.

Still, always expect better of ILM.

Federico D’Alessandro started as a storyboard artist on James Cameron‘s 3D docuemtnary Aliens of the Deep, and worked his way up the ladder working on horror movies like Stay Alive before getting his chance on big studio pictures like I Am Legend, and The Chronicles of Narnia sequels. For the last couple years, D’Alessandro has been working as the Head Storyboard Artist and Animatics Supervisor over at Marvel Studios, working on all the superhero movies: Thor, Captain America: The First Avenger, The Avengers, Thor 2 and Iron Man 3.

Recently we’ve been interested in seeing the pitch reels which filmmakers are crafting to try to convince studio executives to give them a chance. Most of the time these pitch reels come in the form of a sizzle reel/movie trailer, but other times the filmmakers focus on a sequence to show how they would handle the tone of a project.

When pitching for the directing job on Platinum Dunes’ Halloween remake, Federico D’Alessandro used his skills as an artist and animatics supervisor to create a very polished animatic, alongside some keyframes. Watch his amazing pitch video right now embedded after the jump.

The nine-minute pitch reel was well received by peers, but the project fell through the cracks.

“It turned out pretty cool, but unfortunately while I was in the middle of working on it, talks fell through between Platinum Dunes and the Weinsteins…so I missed the boat on that one,” D’Alessandro tells us. “With Halloween being re-released to theaters soon, and October coming up, I’m hoping that readers could get a kick out of seeing a horror themed pitch animatic for a major property.”
