I loved Charmichael's smug turn in the last series, but it was turned up to 11 here and just became risible.

I hope Kate's motivation is cleared up in the next episode because it didn't make any sense, apart from triggering a car chase that didn't go anywhere.

Carmichael is one of the most odious characters I’ve ever seen on TV. I want to punch the screen every time I see her, and I’m so not a violent man! Great performance from Anna Maxwell Martin. She just oozes whenever she appears.

Totally agree.  She's ace!

Anna Maxwell-Martin is so good that it’s impossible to believe her performance as Carmichael is anything other than intentionally snide.

Spoiler

Is it just the result of a career’s worth of fighting in a man’s world to get where she is, or is she actively hampering the investigation on the Chief’s orders?

I always got the impression from the last series that she was straight as an arrow, but they’re certainly inferring otherwise here even if it is just misdirection.

There’s no way Carmichael is H or ocg connected. I think she’s a Rottweiler just like Ted and that integrity of hers is being used by higher ups to remove him.

Surely there’s got to be a season 8 after this. There’s no way everything can be wrapped up now in one episode. Well it can, but not in a good way!

Surely James Nesbitt's character is not actually dead and it's some other poor bastard in that villa in his place?

Has to be. Why on earth would they bother with a couple of pictures of such a well known actor if he wasn't going to appear at some point. They could have used anyone and it would not have made any difference to the ongoing narrative.

They are some wild theories about Thurwell out there that seem crazy

Spoiler

Such as the main Spanish police officer who confirmed they were dead was Nesbitt as his eyes looked the same! Seems a stretch too far even for this show.

In regards to the spolier, does it though?

I read that theory too and it would be amazing, it needs to embrace the ridiculousness.

They could have an episode set abroad like they used to do on Only Fools and Horses or Are You Being Served. Hilarity ensues.

I'll eat my WSP if it all ends next episode. The BBC needs this more than David Attenborough if it wants to keep going in its current licenced form.

Watch as Mercurio releases a statement in the next ten days about the next series.

forget the eyes, look at the eyebrows!

also Davidson never answered who she thought her father actually was.

My manager and I have been taking the piss no commenting each other. She swears Carmichael is H and at first I was sure she was as well but now I’m just not sure.

why did it take Kate so damned long to give up her gun?
