Xbox One Console Thread

Yeah think so, thought I can't remember where. Somewhere in settings, no doubt.

Smitty: I don't know for sure, because it might be doing it automatically, but there is every chance that once you have downloaded the 20gb patch, you're going to have to download all the subsequent 'fix' patches.

When I went back in a few minutes ago after it said ready to start again (that language!) I saw the progress bars for the parts of the game (fun). After that there was a MCC dialogue box saying 'the next time you log in you'll have to download the latest updates' or something.

So it sounds like you're right.

I'm sure I facepalmed in the MCC thread at the time it was announced but why the hell do they have an 18gb day one patch? It's laughable.

Get your shit together MS and 343!

it's worth pointing out that sometimes when it says a game is ready to launch it isn't ready to play, Ryse for example says it's ready to launch about 15 minutes into it's install, but that only lets you sit on the menu screen, it takes another 30 minutes or something to actually play it, there's other games like that, Fifa got that bit the most right, giving you a handful of teams like the Demo and just letting you play until the rest was done.

It's nothing to do with them being lazy hack fucks, it's because it's four huge games and the multiplayer components for each and even a bluray couldn't hold all that data.

They could have included a second blu-ray with the additional data on it; but then they'd have to have had it completed a lot earlier than they did; and even now it's not technically "complete" :P

Just babysat Jon through the IR blaster - sorted.

UI pattern for new users is usually as follows:

wtf

omg what a piece of shit

ah I see

it's pretty bloody good now I'm used to it and previous behaivior memory has vanished

I'm excited with what they do next

Basic rundown of any new product to be fair.

Anyways fuck all that let's have a good rllmuk group play session sometime over the holidays???

Ah, the old if you can't do it better you're not allowed to criticise line of bullshit deflection.

Hope you never ever criticise anything in your entire life ever unless you're an expert in the field then. Shit meal? Guess you'd better STFU unless you're Gordon Ramsay.

I don't have one at all. I just don't know why you're insistent on torturing yourself over not buying an optional extra for your brother's Xmas present. Give yourself a break for once.

It feels like features are borked without it. I've just tried to do the game record feature with my brother and it seems like an awkward confusing mess without Kinect.

I opened the dvr. Greyed put options. OK, exit. Snap the dvr maybe instead. Greyed out options. OK, ok so i need to start the game first.

Start the game. Home. Snap dvr. Options appear finally. Start clip. Choose time. Right, so now I'll play a bit and do a test recording.

Left on d pad assuming this will take me off the snapped dvr on the left and let me play the game. Nothing. Hmmm. Left bumper. Nothing. Analog stick left. Nothing. I can't take control of the game.

Fuck me. Hugely frustrating. What am I meant to do?

Fucking Kinect. Fucking Windows 8. Fucking Wii.

Double tap the Guide button and press X.

you can double tap the guide button then press x as was said to record the past 30 seconds, though for any more you need to snap to game DVR i do believe

also to switch between the snapped window and the game window you double tap the guide button and it will show you 4 directions to press, left for tv/game, right for whatever it is you have snapped, up for choosing something new to snap and down to unsnap the window

This thread is full on mental.

smitty - It'll be all good once you and your bro have spent a bit of time getting used to it. Not the most easy or intuitive console startup I've ever encountered before but by Christ it's not as bad as your making out.

Or maybe for you it is in which case I'd probably recommend you take it back and avoid anymore stress.

Thanks. Probably worth applying for a UI role at either company and helping them out?

Dude, what the fuck is wrong with you? You jumped down my throat yesterday when I dared to criticise MCC.

How does Microsoft's cock taste?

We are the users. If we don't like your UI then you done fucked up son. Expecially when there's a huge design team and millions of dollars sloshing around.

This thread is brilliant. Ol' man Smitty and his new fangled gadgets should be a TV show.

Yeah, thanks for making it a welcoming thread. Oh I forgot, this has fallen into the Rllmuk trap of big threads becoming built around a clique that dominates them.

I pledge my allegiance to Microsoft. There, can it be a normal exchange now?

And don't bother with the old man rubbish. The console doesn't communicate this stuff to you. There is no video that pops up when you use the dvr for the first time telling you how to use it - if there was I would have played close attention to it.

The only indication you get is that you record the last 30 seconds by saying Xbox record that. That's in one of the windows. That's the only bit of instruction available.

The same applies elsewhere. Some tip dialog boxes or tutorials videos on the dash would banish any confusion.

It's really not bad at all, but it does an absolutely hideous job of explaining itself (it doesn't, in other words). Look at how many people still think you need to go through three menus just to access settings, or use snap to record clips, or don't know anything about the guide menu at all. They need a better, fully featured, intro/day one/guide app to all the features, because they are there, they're just not signposted in the slightest.

You should have been there on launch day, everyone was stumbling around blind and half this stuff was missing. Setting up parties was an adventure in itself.

Genuinely don't know how this kind of horseshit only garners one negative response and zero negs. It's really embarrassing to see gamers, nay consumers taking this line. Unbelievable.

Good post. I don't know how MS can't anticipate this.

How hard would it have been male available a 'tutorials' app to download? You'd have written instructions with inline videos explaining different features.

A FAQ. A 'get help' link. Whatever. You can come up with solutions to these problems with a 5 minutes of thought. How does that huge focus tested enterprise not reach these conclusions?

Thanks, I had a vague recollection of reading this somewhere. We'll try it later, he'll be relived that it isn't as fiddly as it seemed.

So what's the 'flow' for recording?

Double tapping & blue button posts the last 30 seconds to the activity feed in the friends section.

You can upload these to YouTube with the YouTube app by choosing left to bring up the menu then upload.

The Upload app is used for putting videos on ms's Xbox video sharing community.

You can edit longer videos with the upload app but it's never worked for me. I just use YouTube.

Ffs.

There is one. Immediately to the right of the currently running app on the home window there's a link to a set of "learn about your new xbox" videos. There's also a help application preloaded.

You're a negative time sink.

Because it's no big deal really. It's neither embarrassing or deserves a negative response.

The UI isn't really all that difficult once you get used to it. But if whoever it was truly feels he could do a better job, then what's wrong with suggesting he might find a more fulfilled life pursuing such a career.

Im finding it quite painless really, its not as slick as the ps4 but its not bad. Its a bit weird that my hdd is down to 320gb and all it has on it is halo (without the update).

Halo is buggy as anything though, you name it i've had it. The control scheme wont change in halo 4, not a single one of my saves across the games has been remembered, I had about 15 achievements only unlock when I went online. The OCD in me is still concerned that the text in the achievement bubble is still not centred. I've no idea how snap works at all, that confuses me a lot. But its just minor stuff.
