Well, if the IR blaster won't work, how will Kinect? Won't it be doing the same thing?

For some of it, yes. I'd assume that getting it to work with your brand of tv/amp would be easier with something from MS than an IR blaster from who knows where.

Have you definitely got the codes right for your equipment?

My kinect didn't work 100% with my TiVo till I selected "Virgin media TiVo". Then it worked great.

Xbox live still seems down :(

Pretty pathetic- I can understand not being able to play online, but I can't launch Sunset Overdrive at all with Live down it seems. If I wanted to be able to use a console after Christmas, I could have bought one for £50 less.

Been playing Dragon Age for a couple of hours without issues and its only just this minute disconnected. Was getting quite mad until I discovered those Lizard twunts have attacked it. Absolute shits, not just for me but all those kids sat there waiting to play their brand new consoles on Xmas day.

I got my sons kinnect from cex last week for £60, I wasn't sure we were going to get one for him but with all the pre Xmas deals being sans kinnect I knew they would be impossible to get post 25th so the price would rocket up and we could always sell it on if he's not using it.

You've got a Panasonic plasma still? Kinect works with mine.

No, I've just got a 60" Sony beast. It's all listed when I entered the code though, as is my amp, so I'm not sure what the problem is.

I don't fancy spending £60 (or whatever) on a Kinect to find I've got the same problem.

Surely I can't be the only person on here to have it setup like this?

In all honesty it sounds like you are :(

You might be he only person using an IR blaster attachment, sans Kinect

Jon, have you tried pointing the IR blaster directly at the amp and TV just to verify that the Xbox is sending the correct codes?

From what you've described, either the codes being sent are wrong, or the IR blaster isn't powerful enough to operate your equipment from where it's located.

Yeah, I've tried pointing it directly at both the amp and TV, but still no joy.

I'm guessing it must be the blaster isn't working right, because the Xbox recognised both bits of kit and had the codes for them.

I'll try the setup again and see where I get to.

I have to say this feels like a real step back for consoles. Massive mandatory installs that take ages.

Good luck playing your game any time soon if there's an update too! Holy shit. Never seen anything like it.

I also find the One a bit ponderous, I see a little loading swirl far too often for my liking. I'm betting the PS4 is whip fast in its menus.

The disc drive noise is loud and bothersome.

Smitty, stop fretting about it. It doesn't matter, Kinect's a waste of time for anything other than UI control.

Yeah but the ui here is so tedious that you kind of want that better control.

Have you got one minus Kinect then?

You really want to hate it, don't you? Hopefully your brother will enjoy it.

I don't have one at all. I just don't know why you're insistent on torturing yourself over not buying an optional extra for your brother's Xmas present. Give yourself a break for once.

Halo is trying to pull down a 20+gb patch/content update at the same time as installing the disc. If you want to play it right away, go into network settings (press start anywhere on the dashboard) and go offline. This will mean you can just install the disc content which will take 30 minutes or so. Next time you go online the patch will download so maybe do this overnight.
