Xbox One Console Thread

I said it a while ago and got negged to fuck, Microsoft has always been terrible at hardware. The 360 is their biggest success outside of the intellimouse, and you're talking about a console that literally melted after a few months and cost them a billion dollars to fix. If you take the time to look through all the Microsoft hardware releases, you'll realise why I've always considered the 360 a (good) fluke based on opportunistic timing, the efforts of others, a few good exclusives and massive missteps from Sony. EVERYTHING Microsoft has done to the 360 since the initial business plan of "take online gaming from PCs, charge a fiver for it, add achievements, profit" has been detrimental to the experience or worthless at best from my perspective. The incessant ramp-up of advertising, avatars, Kinect, ever-worse UI refreshes, smartglass, their crashingly dull focus on sports, live TV and entertainment. And the few good ideas they've had, like 1 vs 100 for example, they've canned!

The 360 has had some amazing games, probably one of the best software libraries of any console, and I'm sure there will be some great ones on the One (urgggghhhhhhhhhhh) too. But they've totally lost me with the desperate bludgeoning blandification they're pushing. Hey, we can do a little bit of everything in a really rudimentary way! Microsoft have this unique ability to push a passable product out, neglect it for ages while it becomes quite useful or fun thanks to the efforts of others, and then suddenly swerve into it like a drunk driving a Porsche and start vomiting sickly Microsoft gunge all over it until nobody wants to touch it any more. And I say this as someone who makes his daily living being a Microsoft product expert, with a significant stake in them continuing to do well!

I ran out of positives...please someone pos this on my behalf

I'd rather pre-order AIDS.

It's a TV hub that I don't want. PC gamers watching that probably lolled at the high fidelity COD footage. Halo TV series? Great. Something I can't actually play. EA Sports games I never play. Skype - I don't want to use it. Smartglass - 10 million downloads (because the app is free on Android devices). It had a TV guide though. Wut?!

The design of the console hints of something Bang & Olufson might have come out with in the futuristic 70's.

Can't say I understand the massive drama thats going on, Both conferences were utter twaddle and light on content. Not sure at all why Sony is flavour of the month or worthy of any praise.

This 'Sony's for gamers' is such thinly veiled tripe. Not looking forward to either,

The PS4's really fucking powerful. That's why. MS could have done the exact same conference as they did but said it had 16gb of GDDRR5 or whatever the fuck it is and everybody would have been shooting at the sky. Seems the Xbox is slightly less powerful than the PS4 so everybody hates it.

Of course the Xbox One (wut?) will have games. You just won't be able to take them to a friends house.

I am honestly dumbfounded by what all three of the console manufacturers are up to.

Microsoft's arrogance in the belief that they are in a position to remove power of choice from the consumer with regard to what they do with a purchase they made.

Nintendo. (read the TL;DR topic, can't be arsed to re-iterate).

Sony. Vita. I mean what the hell? Lets release a hugely powerful and pricey console at a time when everyone is playing 49p apps on their iPhone and a new generation of consoles is just around the corner.

Good luck consoles, but I'm out.

It's part of the fun. We took the piss out of the PS4 presentation. Except we all liked what we saw.

I agree about 360. The ONE seems to add a ton of barriers between me and the games. And now they're playing down the graphical upgrade.

I didn't really get that at all. It looked to me like you could just turn the console on and drop straight into a game. I don't really get the graphical upgrade stuff all that much either. The Wii was weak in terms of power. The Wii-U isn't that powerful either. Its not stopped you and countless others from buying a Wii or Wii-U, so not sure why its an issue here? The PS3 was more powerful than the 360, it didn't really make much difference in the end. I don't think there'll be that big of a leap in the coming gen anyway.

For me it comes down to the games. Microsoft have said they're putting 15 out over a 12 month period and i like the fact that 8 are brand new IP. Trials, PGR, Banjo Nuts and Bolts, Shadow Complex etc have been some of the highlights of this gen for me. If they can bag some massive exclusives, they could potentially have an incredible line up. Nintendo need to get their act together and roll out some big guns that look genuinely exciting and get some brand new games on the go too. They've had a shocker of a start with the Wii-U. Sony have it all to do for me, as they're playing catch up with Microsoft on the games front imo.

From what i can work out it will simply just pull the video feed from the box via hdmi and layer over the xbox stuff.

It has to be more than that surely? What about switching channels, accessing on demand, recording and playback. It's supposed to collate all those things into one place.
